THIS IS HOW YOU PLAY FUSION!!! Biréli Lagrène is in another planet, melodically, harmonically and technically! I've seen and heard almost all of the fine guitarists in the past fifty years, and in my humble opinion Mr. Lagrène is at the very top.

Yaun Kermarc "because he finish to learn it completely" if he says that he is really dumb. i don't look at musical genres at all... I just look to things I like. for example a silly guitarist (not a jazz one) called Randy Rhoads was creating something that was never done.. and he never reached that exact point because of his premature death. just listen how he plays on those shitty amps and equipment... he was really making something NEW

Amazing how many comments liken him to Steve Vai....Ive never heard anything done by Steve Vai that comes close to this. Vai lacks the jazz/ fusion phraseology that Lagrene has mastered. No rock player Ive ever heard is close to this guy. I don't classify guys like Guthrie Govan or Greg Howe even in this guys realm. They converted from rock to fusion. This man has the Jazz foundation which gives him superb phrasing and a fusionistic modality. In fusion, the tonal/ modal foundation is everything. A closer comparison would have been Frank Gambale. But...he is no longer with us. This guy has few if any equals. Possibly...and I say possibly, Al Di Meola or JM. Allan Holdsworth doesn't count as he created his own tonal vocabulary and subsequent language. Consequently, AH is on his own planet.
@tchang338 жыл бұрын
+Broadfieldpoint you've probably seen the young Bireli playing with Al Di Meola, along with Larry Corryell. put aside the awful sound on ovation guitars, it's clear that Bireli lacked the experience Al Di had, but you just have to look at Al's face while Bireli is playing, his gigantic ego can't help but thinking "damn, this youngster's already way better than I'll ever be"
