Yeah, I’m sure it can be annoying. If that’s you in the thumbnail, then, even though it can seem like an ignorant statement from them, it could be confusing because you could EASILY pass for a person of African descent as well. I don’t know if you are of Dravidian descent but MANY Dravidians can pass for some East Africans, that is because Dravidians come from East Africa originally. There’s an even older small population of Black people in India in the Andaman and Nicobar, Sentinel islands who have been there for over 70,000 years.

@@kingofhearts1072 i dont mind being mistaken for another ethnicity (it happens all the time lol) i just dont like the way some people phrase the question. First time viewer and i loved your daughters insight and maturity.I have the impression that biracial kids got the bigger insight on wanting to be seen as humans becasue they dont pinpoint on where they 'should' belong between the colors. The parents are individual and thats what we as the viewers can get more inspire from. Lets be more like you, individual!👍

All of you are beautiful.. My family are not of mixed race. My mother was african american and so was my father but because my mother is lighter skinned we have different variations of color in our family. my older sisters are your daughters complexion or lighter and my brother and I are little more on the brown side and I have a brother and sister that are darker much darker.. When we moved to NY they thought we were hispanic but when they find out they tell us we dont act black and we ask what is acting black? We were navy brats and were taught to speak properly.

I just want to say congratulations. I think when you are mixed, it starts with the parents. You are the foundation, and the foundation must be strong in order for your house to stand. And your daughter is very strong in knowing who she is. My hats off to both of you. I would love to meet people like yourselves. God bless you. And all my prayers will be with you.

I have two biracial adult kids . My daughter always have to tell ppl she biracial and when they tell them her mother black they get really shocked. So they both went thru things in school and even now. I think when you raise them to love them and be happy with themselves things will look good for their self esteem. My daughter really struggle when she was younger and even now, but I alway tell her some ppl just don’t know and you have to be open to the conversation with them, but most of all keep God first and foremost. You guys raise an amazing beautiful young woman.

OMG this video was such a breath of fresh air! Hearing your daughters perspective on growing up biracial was so relate-able, on so many levels! I’m also biracial, my mom is Black and my father is Mexican and everything she mentioned in the beginning has been my entire experience as well 😅. It’s sometimes frustrating that people want to know my race or background first, before even asking what my name is 😩. Growing up looking predominantly Hispanic but feeling and being raised predominantly by my black side has made me soooo confused at times. Like I definitely identify with my black side more, and honestly forget that I’m half Mexican. I think it definitely falls on which parent or if both parents brought you up with educating you on their cultural practices/ beliefs. As I’ve grown older I’ve gotten even closer to my black side, and have found solace in educating myself on black history :). Maybe one day I’ll spark interest in digging deeper into my Mexican side, but until then :) like your daughter mentioned we’re humans first 🤍.

So glad to hear you were able to relate and benefit from the video. Yes it can be very frustrating when people always want to know “what” you are. It’s like, I’m human🤷🏽♂️ Some is just people’s curiosity but others may have some ill point behind it all. You also made some great points because a lot could have to do with how you are raised, meaning if you only had 1 parent or both. Definitely could make a difference. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! Thanks for watching!!🥰🙏🏽❤️

She looks like a mix of both parents. I don't think she looks just like her mom. If I seen her without her parents I would think she was hispanic or italian. She looks like Alessia Cara. I know most mix people have that look but just saying.

I'm just seeing this video for the first time. You guys are such a great family. It was great to hear your daughter's perspective. I'm older than she is, but could definitely relate to her experiences as I am also mixed race. I can't tell people how many times people assumed I was of Latin American ancestry. My kids have very different experiences as well based on what people assume about them from the way they look. Thanks for sharing and good luck to all of you!

Interesting video. My mom is Scottish and Irish and has pale skin. My dad is Irish and Sephardic and has a dark complexion. As consequence of my dad’s family’s looks that I inherited, 90% of the people I meet think I am Italian. My mother-in-law would occasionally make quips about me being Italian, I would tell her I wasn’t. One time she got kind of cross with me when I corrected her, she called me a liar. I just ignored her comments after that. The “what are you” comments came when some friends from college met my dad. He had brown skin but white facial features. It bothered them because they couldn’t figure my dad out.

I just stumbled across this channel. I have to say I am so impressed! This is by far one of the most important and informative channels on KZbin. We are a multiracial family and we get the the “what are you” all the time. While I understand it comes from curiosity, sometimes I do get annoyed. I did my genealogy and now sometimes I give people the long version 😆 plus I ask them the same question and maybe we can learn from each other. I think I am going to get my family together to watch this and the we can discuss this subject too. I’m looking forward to catching up on all of your videos that I’ve missed so far and looking forward to future content.

I loved listening to this conversation. I appreciate all of you taking the time to post this. I’m Japanese-Mexican American. Yes, my siblings and I all vary in our features. So much of what your daughter described in her experience is something I have personally experienced. It has been frustrating but I have always thought I had the ability to understand others from a different perspective. I have had so many that are pure in one race tell me, at some point I need to choose a side.
