Hey my Viking Girl....what a treat....Ulrica for 25 minutes!!??!! Loved that Birch bark sheath. It's important that these old skills be preserved and handed down. ...including how you started the fire.......you didn't give up and won through without matches or a lighter!! Big hugs and thumbs up from the Arizona desert!!

Hi desert Rat :) So glad you liked it! Yes, those old good skills is good to handed down. I learn more when things dont go as expected, like lightning fires. I was glad when it finally lit, tho :) Thank you for taking your time to watch and to comment. Take care my good friend. /Ulrica

Hi. Escapade to the woods with the view of water, so you had a beach front, fire in the air, a sheath made of a tree bark, tea on the forest, what a good time!!! Keep doing this. I know is from time ago but for This Old Crow, was today. Gullrica thanks. I do not know if you still going to the forest? However I enjoyed these old videos. Thanks again. From Nevada, blessings, Pappi.

Good morning Ulrica ..... Its nice to see you again with another really good video. I hope you are well. What a really beautiful wool ..... a bit like Scotland! You did an excellent fire start. I don't think many people practice these skills often enough and revert to lighters or fire steels. I thought the birch bark sheath was a great concept .... I make leather sheaths (a hobby) and I am going to convert your one to leather. I look forward to your next video. atb Ulrica ,,,, Jim

Hi Jim. I am so glad you liked the video! I am well, thanks. I also think most people take the fastes way to make fire. For me its revarding to make fire with flint and steel. But not everytime it goes as I plan. Ha ha. Sounds like a fun thing to do this birchbark concept but with leather. That could work. Thank you for taking your time to watch and to comment. take care my friend and ATB back to you and yours! /Ulrica

Great video! I was so glad when you took the bird nest outside part off. When I saw it hanging over the edge after you first put it in your fire pan, I wondered if it would be safe. I love your knife sheath. We have a birch tree that fell in a storm this winter, so I might give this a try myself.

Hi Helen. So glad you liked the video. Yes, I did see that large bundle too late... It was a good idea to take the outer layer away. Maybe it was a good thing it didnt catch on fire in the two first tries? :) It is a very good thing to take birch bark from a fallen tree. Well done Ulrica, your videos always make me think. I'll have to find some birch bark to see if it can be stuck with superglue from my 1st Aid kit. Probably not, as it is quite oily. Good video and a nice spot with the wind keeping the mossies off the water. Great to see you out and about and a really responsible way to have a fire. Your pot is fascinating, like a Mors pot but bigger and in stainless. Now that Dave Canterbury is one of your proteges, I suppose you will feel it unethical to pass comment :-)) but I'm sure lots of us would like to know how you find it. Good post as always, thank you ..Paul :-))
@Gullrica
@Gullrica 7 жыл бұрын
Hi there Paul! Birch bark is build up in layer, and if you just glue the first layer it will rip off, I think. But if you find a way to glue all the layers it might work. The pot is good but little big and bulky for just one person on a normal basis. Unless its winter and you need to melt snow or ice to bet water or boil lots of soup for some reason. I guess you can use the space in the pot while you packing. Its not heavy, just little big... :) But I love to have something with that Pathfinder logo. So glad you liked the video! Thank you for taking your time to watch and to comment. Take care my friend. /Ulrica

You're patience still amazes me, but you always conquer the fire. Good job! Thank you for showing us how to make the sheath. I was hoping you would after watching the Mora event you went to. That looked like a lot of fun. So did you put all that chaga in the tea, because maybe that's why I didn't like it when I tried it because maybe I didn't use enough of it? I'm glad to see you putting more videos out. Hope you & the family are doing well. Take care. Lessa

Hi Lessa! Good to see you around. It took me a good while to like chaga tea. And I like it the most when I am outdoors and ever more if can mix it up with something, like spruce or pine niddles or labrador tea. No, I didnt take everything in that tin, just two pieces. The smallest I had in that tin, about a sugar-bit (?) size, each. It takes a while to learn how long you you want it to boil or if you want to add something to it.. Me and my family are fine, thank you! Hope you feel well too and can be out on some adventures too. Thank you for taking your time to watch and to comment. Take care my good friend. /Ulrica

Hi J.K, yes, its possible to squeez that little glow on the charred cloth so it goes out. And you need to have air going into it. So its good if its not too compact. But that´s the charm with flint and steel, its little of a challenge every time and nothing is obvious and you dont know for sure its going to work. Thank you for taking your time to watch and to comment. Take care my friend. /Ulrica
