I have even cut a small piece and put it on my cleaning rod to clean the cylinders. Love the stuff. Keeps my revolver looking like new.

Recently used the lead remover on my 686 revolver. It really works but does require some elbow grease. Really makes a stainless gun look great. Buff with a dry cloth afterwards for best results.

This may be of some interest to ya. What I have found to work the best, are the green scotch brite pads you find in the dishwashing isle of the store. I put a little tiny bit of Hoppe's No.9 solvent on the carbon rings of my revolvers and use a small square piece of the scotch brite pad about the size of a half dollar and with light scrubbing they come right off. Even easy cleaning of my 7.5 inch 44 magnum redhawk's cylinder face after a day of shooting 22 grain charges of 2400 powder keith loads. The scotch brite pads are fairly cheap and come in packs of 4. A square half dollar sized piece will last a LONG while before you need another piece. Figured I'd throw this out there. However, the lead cloth's you have work really well for removing lead if you wrap them around a smaller sized brush wet with solvent. I use them wrapped 410 shotgun brushes to clean my 44 and they get the lead out and leave a slick bore to boot. Try the scotch brite trick, you won't be disappointed.

+D.J. Taylor From what I've read, using the green scotch brite pads might not be such a good idea. Using them to scrub on your blued/stainless revolvers may cause more harm than good. It may slowly, over time (or depends on how much "elbow grease" you use), removed the protectant bluing or stainless finish off of your firearm, which, down the road, may cause rusting??? Again, that's based on what I've read. I used to use scotch brite on my blued revolver and could see the bluing slowly scrubbed off. I'm just saying....
@86djtaylor8 жыл бұрын
ANTHONY N. I let the solvent do a lot of the work. On blued guns, you have to be careful on the solvent you use and abrasives. Bluing is nothing more than controlled rusting. With blued guns I wouldn't worry too much about the cylinder face since you really can't see it anyway. It's more of a looks thing with stainless. I don't try to get it mirror clean. Just to the point that you can't see the powder rings. But yeah any abrasive over time isn't good for metal. With the scotch brite pads, you could probably clean the cylinder face after 75 or 80 rounds for the rest of your life and probably never hurt it. It makes me wonder how the effects of these clothes like the birchwood casey would be over time. As quick as they remove the carbon buildup with such little effort, they have to be abrasive. My guess is that they have a lot of aluminum silicon in them. They sure seem abrasive. I think we worry way too much about hurting our guns when in reality the steel they are made of is really really tough. A gun's finish is the only weak link. This is my experience anyway. Other's mileage may vary.

I have been using those Green Scotch-Brite Pads to clean the front of the cylinders on my revolvers for close to 40 years now. They work great! They are cheap to purchase plus they work real Fast.

I clean my taurus tracker 2 with these. Makes the cylinder face look new and I also put on a jag and scrub the bore then clean again with wipeout patchout and dry and lube. Bore looks like a mirror. Fyi the cloth will turn black as coal while scrubbing bore

I have used HOPPES #9 solvents for years on and off. Their products work more or.less. But Birchwood Casey has become my GO TO PRODUCT for most of my cleaning needs along with other options. As for cleaning and polishing clothes I use.the Birchwood Casey and other silicone impregnated clothes for polishing and found them to be great. I agree not to waste time and money on HOPPES clothes.

Birchwood Casey cloth cleaner is tops 🎩
@zivendn6 жыл бұрын
I've used both. The Birchwood Casey is by far superior. The chemical in the B/W cloth is impregnated on both sides where the Hoppees is only good on one side. As far as lead removal from a fouled bore there's no comparison. The B/W cloth over a bore brush will clean it in a few passes. The Hoppees cloth will work but takes some scrubbing.

My first gun was an SR9c with a stainless slide. I bought it used and when I brought it home i noticed the slide was a bit pitted and rusted so I took it to my local gun store and the old man behind the counter gave me the Birchwood Casey cloth and said "here, this will take care of it". man was he right, i would recommend this for ANY stainless steel. He did say to cut the cloth into pieces tho and keep it sealed as it will dry out. I have had mine for years and its still good, but I have only cut patches off of it.
