Bird aviary : releasing new birds Red cheek cordon bleu ( Uraeginthus bengalus )

Awesome, my 3 eggs from my cordons went to wasted after the incident I had with the famle. Hopefully she laids more soon and raise their young

Yes if she is still be in breeding condition and has recovered from her injury its only a matter or time before she goes back to nest. I would add some more nest materials in the cage to stimulate the male and female to build or fix their old nest and get them going again. Good luck with them!

You had a nice natural look ground on your aviary, you should release a couple of quails to the ground, it will add more beauty to your collection.

Muchas gracias amigo. Hace unos cuantos años atras estaba trabajando con algunos pero para canto. Green singer x canario, european gold finch x canario, european green finch x canario, y otros cruses. Nunca lo e intentado con los finches pero e visto bellos ejemplares que otros criadores han logrado !

Great video. I have pair of blue capped cordons and a pair of red cheek cordons among fires . Owls . Gold breasted waxbills . Do you have a mosquito screen around your aviary ?

Thankyou! Sounds like you have a beautiful collection, love all those species. And no the aviary doesnt have mosquito screen. These birds dont need it. Ive kept finches outside for years and never had a problem with the mosquitos. The only ones that I had isues with years ago was Canaries and pigeons. If a mosquito bites those it will cause avian pox, but ive never seen that with african or australian finches.

After having two Cordon Blue females for about a year, one of them developed white wing feathers. She’s very hyper unlike the other female, and drinks lots and lots of water every day. Since I put vitamins in their water, I figured that that might be a factor, but I don’t know. Another thing that she likes is to sit under the red light at night, and gets very upset when the timer sets the light off at night. She’s the only one that gets physically and verbally upset about it, and none of the other finches display such behavior. She has that temper tantrum every single night.

How are they housed ? Ive only had success breeding parent raised chicks in aviaries, they gave me a hard time in cages and I would have to foster the eggs.

In a 18” x 36” top row center cage currently. It’s my only pair. All the cages are well hidden from each other used faux picks and shrubbery. All other species do well in my lil set up. Other than my Lavender, which I’m not trying anymore, this pair of RCCBs would be my toughest yet.

I dont know what faux picks are or the shrubs you are using but the ones that ive gotten to build nest and lay in cages have only built nest inside fake christmas trees branches that I put in their cage. Same with all my other african species they all build the nest in those trees. They can be very picky birds !
