Mini mealworms, Romaine Lettuce, cucumber and mash up hard boiled egg with the eggshell. That’s my secret! It’s Dec 6th and I’m in Southern Nevada. Just set up 7 pr of them a week ago and introduced mini mealies. Brings them right into season. Also, they do better after they get to 3 years old. Good luck everyone! we have a pair that had eggs in the nest and then today we discovered the eggs were broken. why would they break them? Their nesting material was also all over the aviary 😢

Ive never worked with that species they are a bit complicated due to the fact that they are very difficult to sex. Ive seen some breeders have success with them but they breed them in large colonies and allow birds to pair up by themselves.

my society is having a hard time raising them and your right there not getting them feed right my question is if i help them on feeding how much and how often should i feed them

Usually what I do is I supplement the chicks for the first 4-5days feeding them 3x a day max (feed chicks until they are full and stop begging) but allow some time in between feedings so chicks beg and stimulate societies to start feeding. Usually by day 4 societies are feeding but I still keep a close eye on the chicks to make sure they are developing correctly and dont fall behind.

Their name is Red cheek cordonbleu. Not sure why its bleu and not blue, but years ago when I started looking up information on this species thats one of the questions I use to ask myself.
