very helpful video...hope mine grow as big as yours. Besides the slow release fertilizer do you use liquid fertilizer frequently.

How come sometimes you see small bird of paradise plants with flowers? Mine is going on 3 years old. Hope to get flowers.
@cat.b2 жыл бұрын
stores very often put fake flowers in the plants. it could also be a recent split from a mature plant I suppose.

Do you prune at first sign of leaf damage
@cat.b3 жыл бұрын
no. as long as the leaf is mostly green, it still contributes to photosynthesis.

The leaves on my plant curl in... do you what might be the problem?
@cat.b3 жыл бұрын
I do go over this in the video. It's a general sign of a unhappy plant. If the plant is otherwise healthy it may simply be too cold or too dry.

Hi, I repotted my bop 2 months ago and accidentally broke a large root.. hasn't shown any signs of growth since(It was thriving before the repot). Will it be stunted forever?
@cat.b3 жыл бұрын
It will probably take a long time to recuperate but it should take off again eventually. Give it the best condition and be patient.

Thank you so much for the video. Very informative and straight to the point! I have a white BOP looking very much like yours. Is it possible for it to form babies at the bottom? Or is that fuller look only for orange ones? Also, should I cut off the older and smaller leaves as my plant grow? Thanks!
@cat.b3 жыл бұрын
The white bop also produces babies at the base. Cut the old leaves when they are mostly yellow.

@@cat.b I have had mine for almost two years now, but have not seen any signs of divisions. Does it need to be fertilized or switched to a bigger pot?
@cat.b3 жыл бұрын
@@rlyjustafan It's just not ready. Just give it the best conditions you can and it will do it's best with it. Fertilize when it's growing and and repot when it's root bound.

@@cat.b Thank you! I will try to be more patient with it. :P

won't a good quality growlight be a good enough direct sun substitute so it can flower? speaking about the nicolai.. if light is the problem in flowering .. growlights with yellow red and blue light spectra should fix that? or is it the UV radiation that makes it flowering? then a UV light might fix that? maybe too precise and difficult questions but who knows a bird of paradise specialist is reading this and can answer 😊👀
@cat.b3 жыл бұрын
Maybe....if you can provide the equivalent of multiple hours of direct sun daily.... or if you grow it in a greenhouse or sunroom. Eventually it will be too tall to be indoors though.

@@cat.b with east and west facing windows that's impossible so I use growlights (big led bulbs) to help light loving plants 12 hours a day. my strelitzia (bird of paradise) stands under one. not knowing if that's enough to make it flower one day. wondering if it's bright light or UV that makes it flower.

I just found out that the plant I propagated is a bird of paradise T_T
