very cute vid but it still kills me how so many people get birds because of Cute Memes and then they clearly dont know how to take care of them. please read this!!! : 1. you should never pet a parrot anywhere on its body. only its head and neck. petting it anywhere else sexually stimulates it and causes it to become hormonal, which can lead to plucking, aggression, biting, depression, etc. 2. its been pointed out a ton already but that first bird in the beginning was actually trying not to suffocate in the shower. when birds are bathing, they do what the birds at 1:35 are doing. when theyre scared and trying not to suffocate, they go stiff and still and lean their head back and open-mouth breathe. trying to force your bird into a shower like that can also lead to pneumonia and respiratory issues or aspiration. 3. it was never shown in the video but please do not feed your bird only seeds! i know "SEEB" has become a huge meme in bird communities but parrots need a mixture of /pellets/ (i would recommend the brands rowdybush, tops, or harrison's) and safe veggies. fruits should only be limited to treats because of how sugary they are. if you only feed your bird seeds or fruits then welp that bird is going to eventually die from fatty liver disease and malnutrition. 4. its so obvious that a ton of these birds are bored as fuck. PLEASE invest in proper parrot enclosures and training, such as target training and station training, and make foraging stations for them!! they NEED TONS of mental stimulation in order to thrive. they have the intelligence of 4 year old toddlers so imagine having a child that you never try to entertain. tantrums. tons of tantrums and destruction. they're also not actually domesticated birds. there are only two companion-domesticated species of birds out of all of them, and that's actually chickens and pigeons. so yeah. you're essentially taking in a feral but tame animal. please remember this. 5. please guys mirrors are so bad for parrots. they stimulate parrots hormonally and can lead to depression and mental issues. try your best to cover or avoid mirrors in the house but the main thing is please do not get mirrors as toys. theyre so mentally damaging to parrots and can lead to obsession of their reflection as well as the things mentioned above (hormonal issues and depression). 6. DO NOT use dowel rod perches or plastic perches. those eventually lead to bumblefoot and early arthritis. remember these parrots do not live for just 2 years so you have to give them varying sizes of perches to stand on. parrots are perching birds so imagine standing on the same flat surface for over 15 years of your life. yeah. not fun. instead, go outside literally just find a tree branch from a safe tree. safe trees include apple trees, pine, balsa wood, aspen, and birch. wash the branch off and either heat it up to help dry it out or let it sun bake if you live in a hot area. also strip the bark from it. 7. speaking of lifespans, i really hate to say this but if your budgie/parrot lived for like 2 years then sadly you either didn't take care of it properly or it's one of those poor inbred mill standard budgies from a pet store that died because of bad genetics and inherent illness (speaking of that, DO NOT buy from pet stores like petco, petsmart, etc because they purchase parrots from shitty breeders that overbreed, kill their birds, and inbreed) because even "tiny" parrots like budgies live for up to 15 years, the lifespan of a dog basically. some parrots live for literally over 30 years, while some live for upwards of 80. PLEASE DO TONS OF RESEARCH BEFORE OWNING A PARROT!!!! there's tons more issues and information but at least take all of this into consideration before you ever buy a bird or think that a parrot video is inherently cute because a lot of it isnt and a lot of it tends to be insanely concerning content. if you REALLY want to own a bird, i HIGHLY suggest looking into a house chicken or a pigeon instead of a parrot. pigeons are insanely affectionate and surprisingly smart, you can actually pet them all over their body and it wont cause any hormonal issues because of their domestication and different internal anatomy. and pigeons are actually cute if you get a healthy one from a breeder - i DO NOT mean go onto the street and just grab an ill feral one. though please do research on proper breeds because some are insanely unhealthy (do not get me started on budapest pigeons or american fantails).

I agree, I have 3 budgies, 2 females and one male (firstly we bought two, but one year ago, a third one hatched from an egg that the female layed), but lately, we saw that one of the females (the mother of the other fem) doesn't look energetic and doesn't want to eat. We found out that the male budgie was making her too tired because he only wants to breed with her 24/7. We went to the vet, he told us to get a third cage so the female can rest there for a while and told us what we can feed her so she can recover faster. We noticed that she is getting better after being moved in a cage where he can't tire her. My point is that sometimes things like that can also be the problem for your bird to feel and look tired, so people should pay attention to that either.
@Wombocombod4 жыл бұрын
@Grace depends on what your definition of "hard" is. all pets are hard, but i was stating that their care is vastly easier than a parrot's. also cheaper too and vets are far easier to access for a pigeon than it is a parrot (a poultry/farm vet for a pigeon vs an avian specialist for a parrot). companion pigeons (NOT loft pigeons) require similar setups to that of a cat. you get them a crate to sleep in and either buy them a cat bed or get them materials to make a nest. materials are simple. just shred up some paper. they arent perching birds compared to parrots so they tend to prefer roosting on flat surfaces rather than a perch, which means that you kinda dont have to buy them an expensive $100 parrot cage. a dog crate will do. they're also granivores with the occasional veggies so they only eat seeds as a primary diet. seeds generally cost (in 1lb bags) like $20 where i live. parrots, meanwhile, require pellets which can be up to $40 for a basic 1lb bag depending on which brand you buy from, as well as safe veggies which just furthers the cost. so not only are pigeons far cheaper but lets get into their temperament as well... pigeon's general behaviour as animals that have been domesticated for thousands of years (as parrots are not domesticated, simply tamed flock ferals even from breeders) also means that they bond far easier than parrots do. parrots sometimes take years to bond with or refuse to altogether even with the best care. companion pigeons, on the other hand, typically only take a few months to bond with if you treat them well because they're domesticated and are of an even temperament. also if you get bit by a pigeon, it wont bleed because they are classified as softbills. meanwhile, a parrot being a hard-hookbill absolutely will draw blood on you if you push them. pigeons also tend to be far easier to train to do tricks and understand basic commands, including being potty trained, target trained, and station trained. they're surprisingly intelligent and while parrots are also insanely intelligent, parrots are also quite stubborn and you need to spend multiple years in training them just to gain their trust alone. the base cost of a pigeon from a safe breeder ranges from anywhere between $50-$100. although you can arguably buy a budgie for $30 from a mill run pet store, say you want an actual healthy parrot from a safe and ethical breeder. that's going to be about $200 minimum for your average parrot that is healthy and from an ethical breeder that cares about their birds. there's a ton more i can get into but overall, compared to parrots, pigeon care is far easier in the grand scheme of things compared to parrot care. of course all animals have their challenges but compared to parrots, they're far easier. also sry for any typos its like 4am

0:00 - this is how you shouldn't bathe your bird 1:35 - this is how you should bathe your bird
@RedRockAngel4 жыл бұрын
To clarify, in case you someone didn't know, the reason why you should not bathe your bird is that the bird is suffocating. People often misread when bird tilts their head back and closes eyes as sign of content but in fact it's a way of them attempting to breathe through their mouth. Never put your bird under the shower directly, better method is always to buy shower perch next to shower so occasional spray of water and steam will bathe the bird and also so that bird has a way out when they are uncomfortable. The sink was okay because the bird clearly could get in and out of the water thus preveting feeling of suffocation.
@Hekza00244 жыл бұрын
Actually, having a tap is very dangerous cause they could suffocate. The best way to bathe your bird is to get a spray bottle and they spray them with mist (water) to bathe.
@RedRockAngel4 жыл бұрын
@@Hekza0024 it's true that tap does contain a risk but some birds prefer bathing under running water. You can always lower the risks by supervising, lower water pressure and making sure bird can move freely away from the water. You can also bathe your bird by putting leaves of lettuce or birdsafe herbs on shallow dish with water if the bird doesn't like misting.

@scootermom1791 Жыл бұрын
Birds are extremely intelligent. Many species can learn how to interchange the words they learn and use them in phrases and short sentences. They are like 3 to 5 year old human beings. There used to be a magazine called "Bird Talk" (this was before the internet). There was a section where bird owners could submit short stories about their birds. In one issue, the owner of a small pet store had a parrot who'd acquired quite a vocabulary in a short amount of time. People would often stop by it and say, "Hi! Can you talk?" The bird typically ignored them, but one day it surprised the owner by saying, "I can talk. Can you fly?" Lol 😂😆😂 That's how intelligent they are! What really surprises me is that there are a lot of non-parrot species of birds that can learn to talk, too! Like crows and magpies. I even think someone on YT rescued a sparrow that learned to talk as well.

And keep in mind that not all birds like being in the shower, to spraying them with water from a spray bottle is just fine or leave out a shallow dish with a bit of water for your bird to splash around in.

that cockatoo at the end looked like it used to be a feather plucker. but it makes me happy to see animals like this that are able to be rehabilitated. most people dont realize how much work and resposibility goes into owning a bird. my mom used to run a bird shelter in our house growing up and each bird is different and requires different things. i used to have a yellow naped amazon parrot growing up that had only one wing cause a dog had bitten the other one off, but it grew attached to only me and would attack anyone else that tried to touch him. so i had to really keep an eye on him cause with him having only one wing his balance was always off to the point that he would fall of his perch if he lost his balance for even a second. also if you dont want your bird flying around the house and decide to clip its wings, go to a professional cause depending on the bird even if you just nick the blood pocket on specific feathers it can be dangerous or possibly fatal to the bird. Just remember, owning a bird is a big responsibility and you should not get a pet bird if you are not capable of taking care of it properly. also just like any pet if you do decide to get one make sure to go to an animal rescue center, as those ones are truely in need of a supportive family to call their own.

@@OAKAdventures That's okay since it's not your fault. What,s happening in this video is that the bird isn't moving because it's scared. It tries to gasp for air, because too much water is poured on it. A bird enjoying a bath is a bird puffing itself, spreading it,s wings, moving around

I've never seen bird will obey his owner for pooping, love it😊
@firstclassstupid974 жыл бұрын
Sadly, don't love it. Training a bird to poop on command can result in the bird straining to poop which can be very dangerous. If you give them the command when their body isn't ready to poop yet, they will strain to try and poop anyway which can cause them a lot of harm. It is something you have to be very VERY careful with
@vegyess4 жыл бұрын
@@firstclassstupid97 wooot are they really able to control it? i thought this vid was like a coincidence
@firstclassstupid974 жыл бұрын
@@vegyess some species can have a little control over it. However, they cannot poop on command if their bodies are not ready yet. They might try to force it, which is where it can be really harmful for them. It isn't as though they have zero controll over it, they know roughly when they need to go and they might try to avoid pooping on you (trying not to poop on your shoulder, but then it lands in your lap...) But I would not reccomend potty training since it is very easy to mess up

I have 2 budgies and I'm planning to get 2 more that my friend got, recently she got birds only for pictures and all and doesn't even take care of them she cleans the cage terribly every 7 days and doesn't have a proper diet, the birds were depressed since they had no toys or stimulition so I had to call animal control, she got really mad at me for this and hasn't talked to me in 4 weeks and right now the birds are recovering since they were maulnorished and their feathers are growing back I'm waiting to be able to take them with me, so I can be able to give them the love they deserve I have a lot of experience since I literally go to college to study birds

DO NOT PUT YOUR BIRDS IN THE SHOWER THEY COULd DROWN in stead get a plate and fill it with water and they could bathe themselves
@a-bird-lover4 жыл бұрын
it's good to take birds into the shower actually, just not good to hold them directly under the water because it comes down too hard for them :( Get a perch for the side of your shower instead or hold your bird, or just leave them in a cage in the room. The mist/steam is really good for their feathers, and sprinkling water over them or misting them is a bit more gentle. I take my bird in the shower with me and he usually stays on the curtain rod, but if he wants a shower I sprinkle him with water and he'll do his little dance, he loves it :)
