The Wooded Beardsman

The Wooded Beardsman

Күн бұрын

In this episode we turn a grouse that happens to wander right into camp, into a wild meal. I will show you how we purify our water, and some more camp life. I show more about what we are eating on a daily basis in order to survive long term in the wild. Fresh caught wild meal with mushrooms. We finish off our wild meal with some catfish.

The GOAL of the SURVIVAL CHALLENGE is simple: GAIN or MAINTAIN, body weight eating only WILD FOODS! FULL PLAYLIST: tinyurl.com/yc...
Episodes will run every TUESDAY and FRIDAY 10 a.m. EST.
Woodobo SPICE (FOR SALE): tinyurl.com/y7...
Join me and Zach Fowler winner of Season 3 of ALONE on the History Channel. Zach's Playlist: tinyurl.com/yc...
UNLISTED CHANNEL: tinyurl.com/yb...
We weight-in and weigh-out and if we lose any body mass at all, we have FAILED the challenge!
Unlike Naked and Afraid, ALONE, or Survivorman, there is no limit to the tools we are allowed to use on this survival challenge. Living off just WILD foods is harder than you think! If it's legal, it's fair use. Sometime we even do some bushcraft, but the main focus is really on eating wild foods, wild edibles and catching and cooking various foods.
This isn't about just surviving, this is about thriving!
Season 4: Takes place with vast opens seasons including fish, catfish, pike, trout, birds such as grouse, duck, and geese, bear, deer, and moose. Also wild apples, mushrooms, berries, and so much more. We make use of all the resources in this challenge to meet the demands for calories imposed by the human body!

I have always wanted to get a grouse there rare here in Pennsylvania lots of them in Canada according to my research but me and my friend just found a spot for grouse we kicked one up when driving up for shooting and we were in car so couldn’t get it but then we went again with a shot gun and we got out the car and walked about 50 yards and kicked one up and my friend shot it then he went back with his dad and found 9 more grouse wasn’t hunting for them tho they were just there so I’m gonna go up there with him and bag one or two eat one and mount one hopefully it works out

Hard call. With all the bear fat and high calories you both consumed, I’d assume you both either maintained or gained some. But, you both also burnt a lot of calories as well. I’m going to say ...hmm.. maintained. Nice shot on the bird also. When opportunity arises, and Mother Nature provides it’s almost an insult to pass and decline. I can’t wait for more of these challenges in the future. Keep them coming! :)

Always loved your channel, and the production quality is impressive. Keep it up. Would love to see a primitive survival challange at some point too, with an emphasis on not just wild foods but self-created tools made in nature, perhaps with an additional focus on self-sufficiancy and isolation. Realistic? Perhaps not, but if someone were to do it, it would be the Wooded Beardsman!

I'm guessing Zac , because he had salt, a lower metabolism , and in ketosis already lost 3.5 lb in 7 days because of change of environment and a slight change in diet. You lost 8 pounds for the change in diet . Less salt to maintain water weight. Though you were keeping you sugars up not enough of the domestic carbs in the western diet. If you both continued this for weeks you would have stabilized. Not enough time to change and then stabilize.

I think its possible you guys lost just a little weight, even in spite of your successful and skilled food gathering. If so, some reasons may be inherent lack of sleep quality, the constant hard work load ( I could start specifying the complex work load but that would take to long) bottom line is many miles of foot movement for various reasons, including filming which is arduous in such conditions. Also not much snacking calories, bread and carbs, etc. Not to mention some unique stress and adrenaline, emotions in such conditions. All these factors were outside of the conventional modern lifestyle, and your body may have used more energy than expected to adapt to this, even with your vast experience. I could very well be wrong, either way you guys are WINNERS.

The Grouse is indeed a beautiful designed bird. An abundant and historical food source. This Grouse clearly did not suffer with that shot. One second conscience, the next second non existent, and didn't even feel the transition to care. Clean hunt.

Both you and Zach appear to be thriving, but both of your faces got a little thinner coming up to the end of this challenge. That's normal under the circumstances, and you both look strong and healthy, but that's why I suspect that you may have lost from 2- 5 LBS.
@Aaron92534

i would have to guess that since the work load was low and the fat and food content was high, no reason not to actually gain weight. If you were canoeing and portaging and building shelters daily, then i could see working off the fats. So my guess is: Chris: +3.5 lbs Zack: +1.5 lbs Look forward to the weigh in!

Chris you should start a Ginger School For Souls. Like a ginger Hogwarts. Seriously. You can help them get\earn souls from the wild like how u got yours and are helping Zac get his. I see it he might have one. Good job really.

I've been wondering something since you've been eating all the apples and I'm sorry if it's already been answered but why do you peel the skins? I know you were saying apples didn't agree with you until this challenge and I was wondering if that's the reason or if it's just easier to down more apples if they're all peeled. I personally like apple skin but HATE that it gets so easily stuck in my teeth.

Many of them were rotten or rotting so when I peeled I could check for worms and rot. Also didn't want to eat a LOT of fiber which would gas me up in combo with the excess fats.

How do you preserve a whole bear's worth of meat when you kill one? It seems like a lot of meat to keep from bacteria, weather, etc
