Birding in Colombia, November 2023, part 1: Around Bogota

Birding in Colombia, the first part of our trip was 4 days around the Bogota area. We explore Chingaza, Chicaque, Laguna de Tabacal and Sumapaz. Also a couple of hummingbird gardens: Observatorio de Colibríes, and Jardín Encantado, and La Florida park in Bogota.
Our guide in the Bogota area was Johan Florez. We saw 168 species in these 4 days, of which 61 were lifers, and some were extremely range-restricted. We were very happy!
We can't always get photos of every species - our style is "birding with a camera" rather than dedicated photography. We try to show our favourite photos - sometimes a good photo of a common bird, sometimes a good bird even if the photo isn't so great.

No, our guide Johan did all the driving. The roads were pretty decent though, just very busy in Bogata

Thank you! We use IOC names, which splits the Colombian race as White-throated en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-throated_toucanet 🙂
