Birding In Purbasthali, Chupi Char | Birding in India #2 I West Bengal | India
Purbasthali is a village in Purba Bardhaman district in West Bengal. Also known as Chupi Char, it is situated on the banks of a large oxbow lake, which attracts thousands of migratory birds every year. It is a paradise for birders and bird photographers!
Also, the landscape of the lake is one of a kind. The water is so clear that you can completely see and admire the underwater flora. It is also known for it’s growth of sweet water plants.
I visited Purbasthali in January last year with my then-boyfriend-now-husband and we filmed this little birding video. Do watch till the end to know about a bitter truth and social message.

Excellent Photography! Which month did you visit? Certainly not in winter. You missed Cotton Pigmy Goose, Osprey, Ruddy Shell Duck and Red Crested Pochard. Enjoyed your video.👍👍

Thanks a lot! I visited in winter only, early Jan.. But it was a Sunday & it was quite crowded.. The boatman said sightings are much better during weekdays..

@@NomadicAffairs Yes he was right actually during weekends in winter the place is full of tourists. And there two sides of the lake which needs to be visited. One side is near Mayapur where the Osprey, River Jackles , Plovers and if you travel further from Ambagan side you can get those Ruddy Shelducks and many more. And from Kasthashali you go towards left you get those Red Crested Pochards Cotton Pigmy Goose etc

Winter months are the best for birdwatching.. Go between Dec to Feb & try to avoid weekends..
