I had never seen this before, I can’t wait to see what this technology grows into. I really want a solid pair of bins that can take pictures and video

Well hey! This looks like exactly the sort of thing that would be great for me and my son, since we're truly beginners. It might even be a plus that neither of us knows a lick about cameras, too, haha!

Thanks for sharing. I needed something like this. Sometimes I go birding in between other errands, like I will stop by a park on a whim and I always see cool birds when I don’t have a decent camera or binoculars on me! I agree that the pictures look a little dark, but they are good enough for my purposes.

I was using one pretty consistently and the heat from my hand from holding it became a problem, to where it would briefly shut off from overheating from being hand held , and not from any external temperature .

Oh interesting! I wonder if that was a defect with that particular one or if that has a chance of happening with any of them

Just ordered. Seems nice for what it is meant for.

Would be better to know all the specs before reviewing. The Canon PowerShot Zoom has 3 zoom positions. Two optical positions and one far off digital zoom. Regarding the shakes it has image stabilization that turns on when you shoot a still picture or when shooting a video clip. It is certainly not to replace a mirrorless camera or a bridge camera. It's a keep-it-handy companion instrument or a quickie monocular if you are out without your full size binoculars.

You guys did a great job reviewing this. I agree with everything you said. I'm looking for something that for ex. when outside at my mom's she has all kinds of birds around, one being the Red Cardinal, and I can hear the singing easily, but lots of times can't spot them, especially with naked eye. Although I'd like something easy to use, I definitely want great clarity, color and to be able to zoom right in. I see your links, is the Panasonic Camera in your links easy to use and understand, or is it geared for pro's? Thanks for any info. Have a Wonderful Day!

I think it’s easy to use! Normally I just leave it on the auto settings

It's too bad, because I was very interested in the potential for a digital monocular, but the resolution and dynamic range are just way too limited. I can see a use-case for beginner birders who need to compare photos to get an I.D., but I don't see this being a popular item in its current form. Hopefully 2nd Gen will have better resolution, better zoom and better stabilization. Probably better focus controls would be helpful too.

If you've already got a pair of binoculars seems like a digiscope solution for a phone would be a lot better for 1/3 to 1/2 the price max. $270 seems like a pretty steep price.

I bought one a few years ago and thought I would use it a lot. The clunky interface and poor video quality makes me avoid using it. The one good use it to take pictures of birds that you do not know so you can identify them later. It is nice for that and fits in your pocket.

Great idea by Canon, but disappointing performance. Looks like there is no image stabilization, hence that jello effect makes it totally unusable. Otherwise I would have bought it right now.
