I have two budgies who speak. My favorite phrases they say are “What you doing?” and “How are you?” I’ll frequently respond, “I’m cleaning your cage. What you doing?” and “I’m good, thank you! How bout you?”

My both birds ( GCC ) don't really talk, Peach ( girl ) can say her name " peachie " cuz i call her like that in loving voice But she says peachie in different ways or pich, the sounds are different for all things like her calling me, just saying her name for me to repeat, wanting attention and it's suprising how i understand everytime 😂 My Rio ( male ) sometimes say peach or he like to make gibberish sounds whenever i am talking on phone. They both make muah sounds while kissing me or eachother. Even if my birds will not talk i love them the way they are ❤

My conures haven’t talked before but they are still young🤞They do mimic the sound of kisses, whistles and other sounds😊 My umbrella cockatoo that I’ve raised since he was a baby has a vocabulary of about 28 words. I’ve said night night to him every single night of his 10 years and he’s never said it before . It amazes me of what words he does say or pick up on. His latest words are “it’s alright” He is so amazing how he talks in context. He’s hilarious. I love all of my feathered babies… we have a special connection without words as well 😊 I love to see your littles talking…it’s so cute to hear “baby baby” ❤ “ What What” is sooo cute !!!!

@@BirdNerdSophie awe thank you 😊 He’s says…. hey, got to get a drink of water, you like oatmeal, whatcha doin, it’s alright, Jay Jake is a good boy, do you like oatmeal, I love you, what’s that, silly silly, take a bath, just to name a few things. I’ve written the words down without counting any words twice in a phrase and it was 24 at that time. He’s picked up on some new words since then. When he was a baby I called his formula oatmeal and now he calls all of his food oatmeal 🤣😂 he does say it differently according to what he wants.. it’s just crazy cute. I’d love to hear the littles talk one day ❤ he also laughs and it’s so funny 😂

My sweet Budgie was a really good talker. He picked up soppy words from me, I love you, who’s gorgeous, sweetheart. My partner taught him , my s**t smells like roses 😬😬😂. I had an adorable cockatiel who would imitate my cooker timer and mobile phone. Love your content 🥰💙

I have 2 birds; a pineapple conure & a Quaker, both rehomed to me. Charley (conure 3) was an aviary bird with no speech or even handling experiences. Almost a year later he comes to my hand & says ‘go Charley’, ‘beakabee’, ‘baby’ & now ‘beakababy’! Marley (Quaker 5) had a vocabulary we’re still discovering 6 months in. It does include ‘eff you’ when he’s feeling uncooperative so we’re working that one out 😂 I’ve learned so much from your channel btw! Thank you x

I have/had GC Conures, Cockateil's, Kakariki and Budgies. Talking was never an important part for me. But my Budgie was an absolutely amazing talker! His words were so clear. And he also mimicked other things like my sneeze😅 He could say things like his name (Happy) "Hello Happy" "pretty boy" "cheeky boy" "baby bird" "who's a cheeky boy" etc... I often feel people don't think much of Budgies because they are some of the smallest birds. But from personal experience I can only say my Budgie was so intelligent and an amazing talker! All the other birds I have never talked or mimmicked but I do not mind that😊

Hi Sophie--- My bird Spidey is a green cheek. She was 7-8 months old before she started talking to the point that I thought she was never going to. I was blue in the face from saying the words I wanted her to say. Well, finally she started to talk to now she doesn't shut up!!! She is so funny. At first she said things when I was out of the room. Then I caught her. I kept telling her to speak up. Finally she did now it does not stop!!!!!!

My green cheek says a lot of things but my favorite is when it's bedtime he says, "It's Pico time, baby!" It also took me 6 months of repeating "I love you" at least once a day before he said it randomly out of the blue, now he says it all the time.

Great tips! My 3-year-old male cockatiel Mochi is not the best talker, but he does say "peekaboo" a lot and does a very loud, scream-like "cookie," lol. He is definitely a better whistler. He knows the Totoro song, Chocobo theme, Saria's song (Zelda), Jurassic Park theme, Kill Bill Theme, Chrono Trigger theme, Sailor Moon themes, Another One Bites the Dust, Final Fantasy VII fanfare theme, September (of course, lol), Jingle Bells, If You're Happy and You Know It, the opening theme to Sanford and Son (his favorite for some reason, lol), and other random songs. He loves to sing and repetition is key to getting him to learn a song. He has to like, it, though. There have been songs I've tried to teach him and he just doesn't pick them up, lol (Mickey Mouse Club theme is an example... he doesn't like it). It's difficult to teach him new songs now, though. I think his internal hard drive is full, lol.

Wow! He has quite a varied song selection 😍 we tried to teach the Mickey Mouse Club theme too but they only managed about 3 notes 😂

So my green-cheeked conure inadvertently picked up words and phrases over the last decade from me yelling up to my son (with his door closed) between middle school and high school: “Hear me! Right now!” Also with an array of very stern mumbles, which are definitely phrases I’ve said, but can’t quite make out, but they’re definitely mine!

My green cheek says his name Bebop. Various versions like Beezy B, Beezy Bopper. And, one of his faves is, What ya doing? I love you, love you, and You! And he says Thank you! And Come here. And his lastest is, Maybe. And lots of kissy noises. I just say things, I would want him to say. I think around age 3+ is when he really got the hang of talking. He loves to chat in the evening, when we are all hanging out. Thanks for all the good advice. Again, sorry to hear about Chip.

I would actually like to challenge the idea that older birds may not pick up on new words with age! Despite birds having amazing memory- and they suddenly remember something that they used to say like 20 years ago, and start using a long forgotten phrase again, but also, if they are frequent talkers, I would actually say that they may become advance in mimicry with age? but thats my old African Grey Experience. Interesting stuff, huh 😊

I let my cockatiel free fly around my house a lot but he would nibble on the woodwork and plants and then I would retrieve him on my finger give him a little bounce and say “what do you think you’re doing “ and put him back in his cage (wasn’t trying yo get him to talk).. after a few weeks … surprise!!…he said the whole sentence and bounced up and down… I couldn’t believe it…he was about a year old

I would say, you have to talk to them every day, especially when they are young. Be cautious what you say since they will key on that thing oftentimes, ie. they will associate that word or phrase with that object or experience.. Most vocalizations are iterations of "yes" or "no", or "stop doing what you are doing and do what I want you do to" when it comes to a bird, and varying degrees of that. So remember that when your bird says "I'm a nice bird" or etc, it may REALLY be saying, "stop doing what you are doing and do what I want you to do". Birds will also use the same word or phrase to mean differing but similar things. My bird says "i wanna treat" when they want a treat. But it ALSO means put me to bed when its nighttime. What I'm getting at is, whatever they are saying, means something, even if you dont realize yet what you think it means ... if you observe them enough, you can figure it out, and then you will become a well trained human.
