Birds Take Flight - video reference for animators

some tips for people who watch this for animation reference: larger wings usually flap relatively slow, smaller wings flap relatively fast. when a winged creature is "taking off" they require more lift, so their wings will flap, down AND forwards, not only straight down. (example, pause 0:17 pay attention to how the wingtips are in front of the bird's head). this also applies to hovering, unless you're animating a hummingbird specifically. in that case, watch videos of how hummingbirds specifically fly. in mid-air, once they have already gained some good speed, the wings will almost appear to flap straight up and down with little forward movement (because they no longer need as much wing motion to generate lift).

Nice set of references, if it was in real time (not slowmotion) it would be perfect - then you get the real life timing also, and you could scrub through frames in keyframe player
