About a year after I had moved into my house on 1 acre, I just sat and took it all in for a bit. When I was sitting there the squirrels came out and started hopping around. Then the mocking birds showed up and started hopping around picking at things. And I was like "oh yeah, this is awesome!" Then the Cardinals showed up and started doing cardinals things and messing with the mocking birds. Then the rabbits showed up and I was like "what is this, a nature doc?!" I got to sit there and watch all them doing little animal things in my yard, it was so cool. The birds were messing with the squirrels, the squirrels were chasing the birds and the rabbits were chillin.

We had a neighbor who lived to be 103. She put out around 10 humming bird feeders every spring... She passed about 4 years ago .. The birds knew immediately.. Weve seen a few come back but not like before.. Our yard was a sanctuary for Wrens, Nut Hatches, 2 different Woodpeckers, Cardenals, Bue Jays & Robber Jays, and 3 or 4 other species we havent identified yet. It really got started about 3 years ago when we had a really hot dry spring and summer .. the birds were havig trouble finding enough to feed their chicks . NOW we have feeders available All year... Some of the birds have gotten so spoiled and bold as to scold us when one or other feeder needs refilling... Cybil would have loved your documentary on the hummingbirds...From time to time a humingbird flys here and we believe its Cybil saying hello...

In Washington state 1 year a humming bird flew indoors and could not get out and just kept flying up to the loft window, as I stood asking for it to come down so I could help it , it flew down and puffed up to cool off. I picked it up gently and took it outside after just watching it sit in my hand - it was so beautiful. I popped it on the veranda near a humming bird feeder where it cooled down and recovered - it then took a sip of the humming bird feeder then flew up to a branch of a tree to join a friend that seemed to be waiting for it. This was so amazing for me as I live in UK and we don't have humming birds.

Some look familar as if they know me and stop here every year. One comes to the window and looks in if a feeder is empty! I feel like she is saying " hey lady we need a refill out here". I recently retired and moved to Costa Rica. The first thing I did after I found a house was to set up a bird feeding platform, (cats you know) and a humming bird feeder. Every, every, every morning I sit on my porch, drink coffee, eat a bowl of fruit and watch the birds, especially the hummers. I hope to get the little guys to eat out of my hand. So far no joy on the hand feeding but I persist. I think the problem is that I brought my twenty-three pound Manx cat with me when I moved here and I think that makes the birds reluctant to socialize. Often as many as fifteen different species visit the feeder every morning. They're all a pleasure to feed and to watch and the hummers are a joy. Thank you and best regards Sir.

Growing up my family had large family reunions in a wilderness area in Colorado, close to where all our family live. The area gets a lot of beautiful hummingbirds, which have always been one of my favorite animals. To bring them close to the campers and tents, everyone would put up feeders. It was during that time I learned to stick my finger where the feeders have resting platforms, and just wait. Eventually they would sit on your finger to drink. You just had to stay still until they got used to you. One of my favorite animal memories.

Hand feeding hummingbirds takes time. Start by getting birds familiar with your yard as a place to feed. Then use a white bowl with just a couple of small red beads with sugar water in it. Once they feed off that, sit in that location with your arm out, bead in the palm of your cupped hand with sugar water in it. At the start of the season it takes a lot of patience. Eventually you may get 2 or 3 birds perched on you sharing your hand feeder. I had one female who even enjoyed pinky pettings. The birds get more accustomed to movement and even talking.

Aw Bailey reminds me of my crow friend Curtie, who has a broken foot. Nature's resilience is staggering. His family also lost some babies this past summer, it was heartbreaking. The had three fledglings and one day I got to hang out with the whole family in the driveway, then maybe half an hour later there was a massive crow commotion of probably 100 crows on our street, and I never saw two of the three fledglings again. Like Sunshine's lone fledgling, their surviving baby turned out so strong! He was a joy to watch. As was this! I'm so glad I took the time to watch this, it's a really moving story. I have so much love for all of us that love wild birds.

I immigrated to Vancouver about eight years ago. It can be a tough city to live in so I decided to make a list of the top five things I love about being here so when I got homesick I had something to refer to. #1 on the list are Hummingbirds. I love them. I can have the worst day and that’s quickly forgotten when I sit and watch my hummingbird feeder.

This was amazing, and I was glued to the screen the entire time. I’m also an avid bird enthusiast and have been for over 45 years. Nothing even slightly compared to the creator of this video, but I’m obsessed with hummingbirds and watch and feed them every year. I’ve had several nests in my yard; mainly the Ruby Throated hummingbirds. I had no idea some don’t migrate from Canada. 🇨🇦 I also own a few parrots and have had them for over 45 years. It’s so nice to see someone with similar interests. Thank you, from Nova Scotia and happy new year. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥳

Thank you for this. I had a hummer friend that visited a sat with me every evening. He would greet me (in my mind anyway) with with a quick flit around my had when I greeted him. He would fly back and forth, catching bugs ,drinking nectar from the flowers in my garden and my feeders and sit in one spot watching me. I talked to him, took pictures of him. This lasted a month or so, and one day, he didn't come anymore, and I felt that loss of a friend. There is a new bird now that comes around, I named Sweetness, but boy, do I miss Zip ( my old friends name 😊)

Great video! Watching the hummingbirds in my yard is a form of serenity. I have 8 feeders out from late March through September while they're here. I only have the Ruby Throated ones, and they spend their summers here in Tennessee. There's a lady in So Cal who has a lot of hummingbirds she feeds and films. Her YT channel is Robbie & Gary Easy Gardening. I'm sure you'll enjoy watching her hummingbird videos. She has also created a bird garden for a variety of other birds as well as many areas for 'her hummers'.
