@@dannytarver4533 I’ll say, as both a game designer/systems developer in the industry, and a lifelong “gamer,” your attitude and approach to fun is just…well…you are doing it right. 🙂 (even if it’s a third-person shooter and not an FPS 😉) I’m all serious, I love honest critique, but it genuinely made me happy reading your comment. Someone willing to go outside of their comfort zone, and even with an imperfect but very enjoyable game, find the fun in it. You are one side of the coin that we love when doing UX texts/QA (the other being hyper-critical folks (NOT WHINEY ASSHOLES…there is a difference lol.) Anyways TL;DR, agreed. It’s not the best game in the world, but it’s a pretty damned fun time with an actual decent wrap up to FFVII (besides the cliffhanger ending) Glad you had a pretty good time with it. I thought the story for Dirge was phenomenal. I haven't played the game but I found the story to be one of the best stories and engaging storylines in all of ff. I didn't like AC at all, there were some moments that were good but as a whole it was just too over the top and goofy for me. Dirge was much better at storytelling than AC imo. I've only just watched it for the first time a few days ago and I've already watched it again like 3 times❤

I am SO very grateful for this video. I have watched Let's Plays of DoC 3x and still always felt mystified by the story in this game. Independent of not liking it, I just found it hard to keep straight the mythology/motives. This is the clearest statement of what happened, balancing thoroughness without superfluousness, I have seen. I will re-watch this again and am SO grateful for this, since the die-hard FF7 fan in me knows I need to understand this better for Remake.

I believe at some point, Sephiroth and Weiss will have to face off. Sephiroth wants the tainted lifestream, while Weiss wants pure, untainted lifestream, putting them at odds.

@tuff_lover When did I mean to say reunion? What do you mean? And I'm honestly expecting Rebirth to get dlc that continues the Deepground story starring Vincent and Yuffie. And then maybe dlc that sees the conclusion to the story after the third game. I don't expect it to be told exactly the same as Dirge of Cerberus, but I think it'd be the same basic idea. Also, I haven't gotten far into Rebirth yet. Haven't had time. So I don't know if Deepground is brought up in the main game. But I don't expect it to be. But with the way the dlc left off in Intermission, we know Deepground will be back. And we never did see the ultimate materia they were talking about, which I'm sure is the protomateria.

I like that they gave Vincent more attention in this game, and I know he's most skilled with firearms, but I sucked at this game. I could never get very far, preferring to use his claw attacks instead of his gun, because it was never easy for me to aim properly in the fast pace amount of time before enemies would take me out. I also had issues with the way the other characters were handled. We never got to see what the rest of the team was doing, only told. Sadly, whenever other names were mentioned it only felt like a tease. A good example is when Edge was getting attacked. My excitement grew knowing that's where Tifa and Cloud were, and they were mentioned, but only as an intel report that they were fleeing the city trying to rescue a bunch of kids. Don't get me wrong, that's a very valid reason to run and not stay and fight, but the way the info was given felt more like a "Okay, here's where FF7's main character is and he won't be playable, you're stuck solo with Vincent. deal with it." I love Vincent, but it felt more like they were forcing us to follow only his POV of the story and we knew next to nothing about what everyone else was doing except through exposition. The story was also waaaaay more confusing than it needed to be. And... hacking the planet..... wha? I get that Hojo wanted to force the Omega event to take everything to a new world and have him as Weiss be a Sephiroth 2.0 and carry the life energy to a new world so he could play God and create new lifeforms as he saw fit, but to do it that way is um.... wow. The story needed to be polished and other members of the original team needed better inclusion. Even Kingdom Hearts with its complex story plots knew to change POV from time to time by showing what Riku was up to, Kairi and Axel too. The style and feel of the game also gives me the inkling that it was made as a way to compete with Devil May Cry which was also insanely popular at the time. Now onto the parts I DID like. I loved some of the cut scenes and how awesome Vincent is shown in this game. I love that we got more backstory into his past. Though what was shown has convinced my head canon that Sephiroth was really Vincent's kid. He just didn't know that. Hell maybe none of the three involved knew that, unless Hojo did a DNA test during his experiments with Baby Seph. Maybe that's why Lucrecia kept apologizing. I also loved the cutscenes with the whole gang. That scene of Barret, Cid, Cloud, Tifa, and the rest charging into the fight right before an all out (heavily Star Wars inspired ) war erupted was a massive highlight moment in the entire FF7 compilation! Also I hope Rosso suffered an embarrassing loss to Cloud when she struck at him on Fenrir because I hope his bike wasn't damaged. They also didn't explain how Rosso got to fight Vincent after going toe to toe with Cloud. How'd she get away? We know that boy doesn't leave loose ends, unless Rosso used the battle around them as a distraction to run with her tail between her legs or Cloud rushed to help Barret and Tifa as the three were fighting together when Vincent spoke to Cloud on his phone. Taking a moment here to be the Cloud Strife fangirl that I am, you can hear a laugh in Cloud's voice as they talk. That tiny notion shows that he's recovering into his own true self after the events of Advent Children. A true sign of recovery from his depression. and I am all for it! That being said, I did like Rosso as a villain. Except how she went out. She really said she'd be defeated by no man? And then took herself out? How petty, and stupid. How does that relate to the fight she started with Cloud then? Did she flee from that battle and then turn to Vincent? Technically she'd be defeated by two men. Tossing in my personal take here, if you run from an enemy that's considered a loss in my book. I think she needed to go out a better way. All in all, I don't think this game is horrible, it's just more difficult than it needed to be and we needed a little more view of what was going on through the original team's eyes and not so much hyper focused on Vincent, even though he was the star of the game. He's still part of a team. I also was so curious as to what Genesis was up to at the very end. What plans did he have with Weiss? Was it to help the planet or to be a new threat for the Team to fight? I was so curious. but there's a chance we may never know.

I think thats the master plan for square with ff7! They did a remaster of crisis core, remake, then internmission (which they included nero and vviss, rebirth and then the final 3rd in the ff7 remake games, ths advent children takes place and last is this game. And with the secret end of GENISIS coming to get wiss. So my hopeful prayers is that after the remake they will ve continuing and releasing the new ff7 squel game about gensis and wiss being the antagonists

Loved this game on release, and I love it still as I replay it on my emulator. Never cared for the hate this game got, my only dislike for it was all the jangling keys at Vincent/Yuffie fans only to have it dashed aside and Shelke getting a part of the backstabbing you know what's memories and meet up with Vincent at the end. Everything else, I loved. Especially the Vincent vs Weiss cutscene. Going so fast they "kill" the afterimages. Awesome.

While technically canon, DoC always felt too Kingdom Hearts to me. Like, look at the Tsviets and DEEPGROUND as a whole, how they're designed - all exaggerated proportions, huge toecaps, and fiber optics. Even for being a secret, abandoned supersoldier program, they don't fit the grungey, mostly-realistic dystopia of Midgar. They don't fit the world; it's like dropping the Enclave from Fallout into Tamriel. They stick out like a christmas tree in a concrete factory. Nevermind that the explanation of "Oh, Shinra tried doing SOLDIER before, but botched it and literally hid the results under the rug" feels like an ass-pull excuse to provide a new enemy faction for Vincent to gun down. (Besides, how would they have kept them *down* there all that time? As far as I can remember, they weren't in any kind of stasis, they were just idle and heavily armed. And idle, heavily armed, jilted übersoldaten tend to not like being or staying buried.) I just can't reconcile any of it. :/

Perhaps you can clarify something that confuses me: is Weiss dead or not at the start of the game? "He" issues that excessively brutal video about purification...and then we find him "dead" in his chair when we meet him. Was Hojo acting through him in the beginning? If so, then why is Hojo having him play dead when Vincent arrives first? If Weiss was "dead," then who killed him? I thought the online content associated with DoC made it clear Weiss was alive and well? In short, what did it mean that Weiss was "dead" when vincent came into his room?

He's dead. When he killed the last of the Restrictors, Weiss basically signed his own death warrant. They injected him with a time release virus to ensure that he'd die within three days if they died.

This game had so much potential to be good but it fell flat due to the developers being so damn lazy. I love this game in fact it's one of my favorites but recently playing it I saw alot of issues with the game. One theres no combat system similar to Dmc, He can't do any combos but 3. If they put in a combo system it would have been entertaining to fight deepground but all you do is just shot for 5 hours straight. 2 vincent didnt get alot of dialogue in this game surprisingly enough, he was somewhat silent throughout the game. Another problem that i had with this game was the OG party from ff7 they literally did nothing in this game except stick around for the cgi cutscenes and you didnt get to play as any of them except cait. Cait alone his gameplay was just trash. The story was awful too ngl, It's just lucuria just crying for a couple cutscenes and some of the cutscenes were cringy and unmemorable. Now a lot of people are gonna assume that I hate this game but again I love this game and it hurts to see what this game could have been. This game was my introduction to final fantasy and I'm glad this game exists. I hope they remake this game and make the story and gameplay better. Btw I fucking love the music in this and I hope to hear them remastered in the future.

If the name has never been spoken out loud in canon media we base the pronunciation on the Japanese katakana. 'Teedus' for example instead of Tih-tus. As it happens this is a fully voiced game, where they say the name Lucrecia all the time and we didn't have to look it up :)
