Thank you all for your wonderful words of support! A quick reply to a question a few of you have asked: Where can I get bird ring/text/notification tones? I use Xeno Canto (details in video). You can look at the licences attributed to each audio clip, and find one that's okay to download and edit. Clips labelled with 'CC0' licences are basically 'No Rights Reserved' - so try and start there!

Great stuff thank you! I can't help associating the wood pigeon with the song "if you knew Susie like i knew Susie"🎶 consequently i can't get the song out of my head!

I think any area can recover given the right circumstances and or time. When I took my allotment on at m42j10 birch coppice they were still building warehouses and it hadn't had a chance to settle, recover, re wild. There was very little wild life, and strangely very few worms. Gradually over 5 years its come to life, the wildlife that was there has gotten used to its new surroundings and new wildlife has moved in, foxes play in the fields, squirrels bound around, we get the odd moorhen, ...its a harsh acidic gravel landscape as its pit spoil...kestrels flutter and buzzards hover. Its wonderful. Whilst it lasts. The allotments are earmarked to be moved, more fields to be built on over the road.

I just found you via your otter tweet that Sally le Page shared, and this is perfect! I got into birds during lockdown, have done an internship at a place that looks after injured birds and really want to brush up on calls/song.

@@LucyLapwing I'd guess either blackbird or robin first. Both common and both very distinctive. Great idea for a video series, btw. Looking forward to following ...and hopefully learning from it.

Have been enjoying your radio three series but the BBC sounds app doesn't keep all the back episodes, ( or does it? I can't find them ). So I am catching up on KZbin. One quick question: the Xeno - canto site is amazing, but when I search for "Blackbird" it gives me 7,421 results. Entering "turdus merula" only reduces it to 5,113. Any tips on narrowing down the search?
