I think at the end, he is seeing the hand flat and looking for treats instead of thinking it’s asking to step up. Since you have been offering treats out of your hand as well as with your fingers, check the angle of your hand.

This is so inspiring for me. I have a foster who doesn't step up (she is 10). I am going to have to break it down to even smaller progressions after seeing these training sessions. I'm really happy that the spray bottle doesn't bother her.

My ringneck hates the bottle, but he loves the sink and showering with me. My African grey is is the opposite, he’s scared to shower with me but he really really loves a mist bath.

Hey Jamie you often say to train your bird for 2-5 minutes but in videos it’s often 15 minutes or do you do it multiple days Also do you wish you had adopted lefty?

I feel like if you limit the number of reward seeds in your hand, you're less likely to overdo training. Bc Eclectus can't have as many seeds/nuts, I wonder if it makes training more limited? How many seeds &/or nuts can they have per training session? Max per day vs max per week?

As a non-bird owner, I have a question. Do owners need to careful about how wet or what air or water temperatures they need to pay attention to when bathing , spraying, showering birds who have had plucking damage? Question #2: it looks to me like Rusty’s E beak is shaped more like the beak of Macaws? Does that make their bite force more similar? Thanks for all you do. Oh, and give Dave more time to”get off his feet”.😂 Don’t know what he had been doing, but he never seems to complain, so poor guy must have been tired.😜

So would it be a good idea to try doing this a few more times before setting up a consult with Kim? My new female Eckie is not having anything to do with bathing and as soon as I touch the spray bottle just flies away.

How many pieces do you divide the different nuts in to prevent him from getting full during training?

I focus more on his excitement level to participate vs his full level. I try to keep sessions productive but also fun and always end with him wanting more (but that doesn't always happen as I'm learning a new bird's boundaries but more often than not that's usually my goal!) It's kind of a decrease in tolerance or excitement that I look for that may signal an end is nearing the session.

I notice you only seem to get Rusty to spin counterclockwise. Is this deliberate? It's just that, with other animals, it is generally considered better to do all exercise on both sides...

Yeah it's deliberate. When training to spin I am training in one direction intentionally, but you can definitely put both directions on different cues! But I know my horse trainer friends make sure to run their horses both directions when warming up and working on things. I guess I saw the two things differently in my mind.

Mid-way through, it seemed like Rusty almost offered a spin right before you asked for one.😂 Jamie, you look beautiful as always. But since I am likely old enough to be your grandmother, I am a bit worried about your weight. Your collarbone area is so thin. It reminds me of my own mother telling me I was getting too thin once when I was young. I paid attention and gained a little so she didn’t have to worry any more.🤣 Just take care of yourself. Capri needs to learn it is okay not to have her skeleton showing.when she grows up.❤️❤️❤️ And, yes, I know it’s not my business. Sorry, I can worry long distance about someone I respect and care about at least a little, ok?
