Input Capacitor Selection for Power Supplies (Part 3 - Electrolytics/Bulk)
This is Part 3 of our 3 part video series on Input Capacitor Selection. In this video we will discuss how to calculate the size for our energy storage/bulk electrolytic capacitors including voltage rating and ripple current rating. We will then use REDEXPERT online tool to narrow down our choice down and select a suitable one.

Hello Mr. Shirsavar, thank you for your well detailed content and your professionalism. I much better understand how to deal with capacitor impedance in SMPS applications. Could you please do some videos around capacitors in analog compensation circuits (ex.: type 2 compensators etc.) ? What type of capacitors to use (films, ceramic etc.) ? What to pay attention to, given switching frequencies (ex.: impacts relative to the types of components choosen etc.) ? What minimal tolerance to use for the capacitors and resistances ? Another idea of subject: For digital ACMC converters, I wonder if it is sometimes necessary to slow down the outer voltage loop by sofware program or if genarally, the dynamics is naturally set between current loop and voltage loop, so that the current loop is always faster than the outer voltage loop ? What ratio would you recommend between the cutoff frequencies of inner loop and outer loop in cascade control ? Thank you

Hello Great video and explanation. There is one that concussed me. It is mentioned that the voltage is allowed to dip 5%, which is 600mV. At 6:12 I believe that it should be 11.4V.

Hello, doctor! According to the derivation formula of the input electrolytic capacitor, I do not understand why the smaller the time to allow the input voltage to drop and recover, the smaller the capacitance of the input electrolytic capacitor should be.
