Birkenhead Murder Stephen Croft's Killer Gets 13 Years

April 11th 2008. 13 year old Jamie Lee Smith was sentenced to a minimum of 13 years imprisonment for the murder of Stephen Croft who's body was found on a bonfire in Birkenhead on November 6th 2007. From Granada Reports and North West Tonight.

the battered assault in July 2007 where he kicked a kid in the head was actually my brother. we just came out of watching the new harry Potter film in birkenhead cinema and he and a few of his cronies started throwing stuff at us whilst waiting for our parents to pick us up. he then approached us and asked if we were 'moshers' which is someone with long hair. Taken back by that, my bro and me just laughed it off before he stated at my bro and said "fight me" my bro stood up, naturally confused by that random statement before laughing again in confusion. he said it again before roundhouse kicking him in the side of the head and fell to the floor. I was so close to attacking him but I ended up just screaming "FUCK OFF" at him until he walked away laughing. thankfully my brother is okay now but I'll never forget that day he kicked my brother in the head unprovoked like that.

I went to school with Jamie, he was dragged up by a dad who took drugs regularly and applauded his sons violent behaviour. But in all honesty Jamie wasn't a fighter, he punched me many time and it was laughable, one time he punched me in the face 4times and I just walked away, sat in a chair and put my shoes on.
