Birkin Bag Review- and everything you never needed to know....

So this is a waffly one!
Also never a video without a make up problem yes I am aware of the big back smudge the appears on my right eye lid as I filmed and I won't skip my primer again in future.....
So this is a more chatty review because I think when it comes to the Birkin most questions that I get are about whether I felt the bag was worth it, did I regret it and how I feel about using it.
I gave a lot of close ups of the features of the bag in my comparison with the Teddy Blake and so I tried not to repeat too much from my previous video- especially given how long this video was already.
Buying the birkin was a great experience and I love owning one. I am very aware that it is a bag that really polarises people with some finding it the most decadent waste of money and others thinking of it as a holy grail purchase. Whilst I can see both sides I definitely fall into the latter group and this video is aimed at people who share my enjoyment of all things bag related- though not necessarily every bag. If you don't like luxury bags then....I'm not quite sure what's brought you here!
I try to be very frank in my opinions and not just say 'what I think I should'. This goes for the items that I am reviewing and anything that is gifted or sent to me. Having myself been influenced by lots of other KZbinrs into purchases in the past, I feel a responsibility to be very honest.

This is probably my favorite Birkin video because of how honest it is. Whenever I see people talking about their Birkins it's usually that they just went out and bought it. Which, if I were wealthy I'd probably do as well, but that's besides the point. I like that you had saved and worked for this bag as long as you did and it makes me happy that a fellow Birkin lover finally got her dream bag!

Wow! This is by far the best video on KZbin on the Hermès Birkin handbag. I have probably looked at almost every KZbin video to date on Birkins as it is my holy grail bag. But, this is the first one in which the anatomy and names of the various parts of the bag were discussed! Also, your history of the company and of Jane Birkin herself goes far beyond any other video I’ve viewed. Thank you! Your bag is absolutely gorgeous! Btw, I just received my MaiTai Collection bag insert for my recently purchased Hermès Evelyne lll bag. The insert is of excellent quality, fits inside the bag perfectly, adds no noticeable weight to the bag, and arrived from France to The States very quickly. I cannot praise the company, their workmanship, and my online shopping experience highly enough.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MENTIONING JANE BIRKIN!!! Her life and love stories are so interesting. Every time I watch one of her movies in the 70's and early 80's she always seemed so graceful yet awkward, bohemian but classy, she truly embodied the je ne sais quoi! And her music is divine if you love the early French music or into Serge Gainsbourg music. You're right about her! She's such a giving and kind person. She regularly gives most of her earnings to charities and regularly goes into humanitarian efforts, similar actually to Angelina Jolie. She was british but she definitely embodied that bohemian free spirited Parisian ideal woman. Quite sad that the Birkin is more known for the bag being the most expensive bag, rather than Jane Birkin herself. But she did an interview and found humor in it. "If someone asked me what I was most known for? Probably the bag" "Could be worse" I'm so glad you found appreciation for both Jane Birkin and her bag! PS. the original Birkin bag is displayed in Catherine B. Vintage store in Paris. Jane Birkin auctioned it off. It was a 35cm Black Box Calf leather, with gold hardware, and surprisingly, it has a shoulder strap!

Aditi Siddharth that’s why Jane Birkin embellishes it. She finds the Birkin bags “wear really well” over time. That’s direct quote from her. The leather and craftsmanship is beautifully made but the plain ones aren’t her style, hence why she puts embellishments and bells around it. The Birkin bag itself is a smaller version of the HAC bag, which Serge Gainsbourg (then partner of Jane Birkin) used all the time

Thank you very much for this honest and very informative review. I just got myself a Birkin inspired bag (Buti) and spent quite a lot of money on it (600 euro) and I am so happy with it. I would never be able to justify the purchase of a real Birkin, but I do like the shape and look of it, so I went for what I can afford, the brand of Hermes doesn't speak to me but I do like the look of the Birkin. I will baby this bag just as you will baby your Hermes. I have seen your comparison between the Birkin and the Buti, after I bought mine (I didn't realise people were making such a big thing out of these bags). I would never pass it of as a real Hermes, because it isn't. This bag symbolises a new phase in my life and that is why I bought, to celebrate what I have accomplished so far. Great review. It is refreshing to see someone saying the Birkin 35 is very versatile and was your choice over the B30. The B30 is beautiful and lighter and for those reasons, I am a fan of the B30. However, in terms of functionality and classic looks, I must say the B35 is the winner, it’s a gem for travel and a great work bag. Thank you for your great review.

Glad you are using and enjoying your Birkin! Love all the details and history behind the brand. I just learned about the 'shooting star' bags recently and I thought it was something really good to know if you are buying pre-loved. Someone on KZbin had purchased one and knew it was made specially by an artisan for themselves/family, but I don't think she knew you couldn't take them in to Hermes for repairs/spa treatment. Obviously, you can get bags fixed other places, but it's definitely something good to know before you buy one. :)

I get it. It's too plain and simple, when compared with Chanel's aesthetics. The chanel has quilting, the chain strap that looks like jewellery, and the iconic CC turn lock. But what makes the Birkin beautiful is how simple and effortless it is. Exactly what Jane Birkin was. bohemian, simple, casual and relaxed. Only when it came to America and people in the Upper West Side made such a big deal about the Birkin that it got the rep for being an stuffy old lady bag. But I still think the Birkin bag is beautiful because of who it was originally designed for.

I'm petite and can't stand carrying bags on the crook of the arm - for that reason I have not really looked into the Birkin (aside from the price!) so I never took the time to learn about it. I don't know. I used to think they were very plain and boring. Nowadays, I can appreciate a plain bag a bit better. But I can't imagine using a bag that is (1)so heavy (2) only has top handles (3) has that huge thing poking off the front that seems designed to catch on my sweaters and jewelry and scratch my car (4) seems to be designed to be as difficult to get in and out of as possible. And I see everyone just carrying it open like you do -- so then just make it an open tote. I'd respect it a lot more if it were an open tote. I hate how a lot of these old brands keep things that are traditional even when they're bad design.

It's a beautiful bag and 40 cm is extremely handy for a man as a day bag : files, wallet, phone, keys, diary, book, laptop... everything fits beautifully in it and is very nicely organized.

Beautify bag and enjoyed watching your video. I have a gold color Epsom 35 Birkin that I bought preloved and it’s pretty but a bit too big for me. So I just received a call from Hermès in Chicago because they are holding a size 30 in Gris Perle with gold hardware in swift leather. I’m nervous to see it because I think the pale gray might be too light and the swift leather might be prone to scuffing. So what do I do?! Is it ok to say I’d like a different color or leather, or will they blacklist me for refusing their offer?

Hey Emma, I really enjoyed your Birkin videos! I am in the process of doing some research on Birkins as I am interested in attempting to get one in the near future. Would you say that you felt you had a better chance of getting one straight from FSH over your local Manchester location?

After I got my birkin I went to Hermes in Manchester and they told me that they will put people on their list even without buying anything (I spoke to a girl with red hair, I can't remember her name). So if you don't mind waiting that's a good option. I loved going to Paris though. I liked having a few to choose from and seeing the store that so many people talk about in their videos- but there is the added cost of the slightly more expensive bag and travel to consider. I'm not the most patient person either! xxx

Thanks for replying! I certainly am impatient and would like to get one soon :) I would certainly love to go to a location that I know is more likely to have more of a selection to choose from! We will see what happens. I would like to not have to buy a ton of merchandise just to build a relationship, even though some of the stuff I do really want. Unfortunately I have been reading a lot about customers who have had to buy tons of stuff before being offered, or to continue to be offered a Birkin every 6 months or so you need to keep making purchases.

that's a really good price. that's less than half of the price in the U.S. market which is 10,500 to 11,000 depending on the leather, especially if it is in a good vintage condition.

When people buying this brand Hermès as because it is expensive bag therefor it does make people feeling good to have it because it is hard to get it as well ? As I have seen some other brand are very good quality but they are not that excessive expensive. Hermès has some nice design bags but some they don’t look that so nice. Birkin cost no more than £400 to make an im being generous, i say this cus i know leather makers and tanneries and i asked about hermes an they said they make a killing on each bag. Togo leather (calf) leather is cheap, and making hardware which hermes just plate is cheap, dont bilive me do some research on leather hides, ull be surprised. U can buy alligator/crocodile full skins for £400. They are not expensive.

Your video is very informative about the Birkin. Honesty I think the birkin bag is probably the most overrated and overpriced bag in the world. I hace checked online and gladly see I'm not the only person who thinks the birkin bag is ugly or plain. Of course the quality is really really good. But ultimately it is story of a brilliant and shrewd marketing scheme . They put a price tag of $35,000 on a $3,500 bag, and then limit the number if bags they produce. Then all of a sudden it becomes a symbol of status. It's not worth it. It's also weird you have to put a bag in a bag to make the bag function and look better.
