I think the Terminal Station was demolished on September 22, 1969. Great video!

The terminal was demolished when the red mtn expressway was being built. The expressway had to be moved East thereby taking the terminal property. The move was because the section 8 housing residents protested having to find other homes. This demolition took a terminal that made the Chattanooga terminal look like a dump. One of the biggest losses of our times and will be remembered by anyone that grew up in Bham at that time!

If I am not mistaken, there was 2 terminals? A smaller one there at red mtn express way. The slab is still there, and one down where RR Park is now. Or thats what I've been told. I am to young to remember them.

I was 10- 15 years old in those days born in 1958 at Carraway. We lived beside Chicago Bridge an Iron Company on 50 st. Woodlawn area. My mom took us to downtown on the city bus every 2 weeks to shop etc, I remember the bus driver blowing his horn as we went under the train terminal in the 5ave tunnel. I was in that building many times. The blunders listed on this site so far are true an shameful. So many individuals lived an died in Bham trying to build the city from its founding. Including my mom an Dad.

I don't think the Terminal Station was demolished until the 1970's, when passenger trains quit running through the city. At one time the L&N station was off Morris Avenue, giving Birmingham two passenger terminals.

It sure wasn't 1929. I took a train out of that station to Memphis in 1964 or 65.

Just like Birmingham, to destroy something that was so beautiful while never thinking of the future. Yep! Thats Birmingham.

Nobody had the nerve to save the old station because certain citizens didn't want the new 280 Highway to cause a nearby housing project to get moved.
