Digbeth is actually very safe at night and looks even better as all cool lighting, bars, restaurants, street food, massive club/live music events etc it’s also seeing lots of redevelopment with major film studios, bbc moving there, music and youth museum and lost more residential which will bring even more life, cafes, restaurants etc Typical boring London centric old fashioned stereotype view of what Birmingham is actually like, glad you went for yourself and found out that’s is bs.. infact, you didn’t even see most of the nice areas of even the city centre, put the Jewellery Quarter on your list too for very old buildings, cool vibes, nice bars/restaurants, little independent shops, museums and did you know the area still makes 55% of all jewellery made in the UK, the queens crown was made there for example… also Birmingham is one of the greenest cities in Europe and has some amazing suburbs like Kings Heath, Edgbaston, Mosley, Harborne, Sutton and afew more that are worth a visit for there amazing parks and independent cafes/bars/events… Definitely recommend a longer visit next time, The Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas market is a must as well as the Birmingham independent Christmas Market around st Philips Cathedral… 👍🏼

I lived in the outskirts of B'ham for a year in 1978. (I'm a Yank...) We would travel to the Bull Ring on the train and then walk around the city center. It looks like they have closed off or restricted cars from a lot of the streets in that area. What an interesting blend of modern and old styles. Great video and a lot of good memories, thanks!!

IMO I think Bham city-centre German Markets are a little overrated, they are insanely overpriced, the food's maybe 6/10, absolutely _rammed_ with people, and they're all part of the same franchise. If you want an authentic German market, get a bus outta town & try Solihull's German markets instead. It's a lot smaller and less exciting, but all the stalls there are independent and have way better products & variety (especially the awesome craft cheese vendors!!). Though if you want to go experience the atmosphere and nightlife, I'll admit yeah it's pretty awesome if you don't mind crowds/prices. It always has a nice vibe tho I usually skip the markets themselves and just go to the local pubs - the people & staff are always very friendly. 😁 Also there are a _lot_ of diverse places to eat, and some great Japanese & sushi vendors. Also Chinatown has some incredible Chinese restaurants - I _highly_ recommend Chun Ying Garden (sp?). Or Ming Moon literally just over the road if you want atmosphere - they serve buffet food and have karaoke (bit pricier tho)

@@DodgyDaveGTX Sorry but the Solihull Xmas market is not an authentic German Xmas Market, the only UK authentic and biggest German Xmas Market is the one in Birmingham and is run by Frankfurt City Council

Would you recommend a visit to Birmingham ? After many years without any holidays, my wife and I (both in our 60s) had a short break to London in Nov 2022. We travelled by train from Newcastle and loved it, so much so, we have had similar 3 or 4 day breaks since, to Edinburgh (twice) Glasgow, London again, Leeds, Manchester, York and Liverpool and we still have London and Glasgow again this year. Some were single city breaks, while some were 2 x 2-day breaks in nearby cities. I am thinking of somewhere new to visit, for late in the year, or even early 2025, hence the question. My wife likes the shops, while we both also enjoy seeing new places of interest, such as museums, cathedrals etc. Birmingham, Chester, Cardiff, Nottingham and Sheffield, Aberdeen, Inverness are other possibilities.
