Birmingham's New Tram Extension 29/12/22

Thought it was about time I went a ride on the new Birmingham tram extension to Edgbaston.

Brilliant Mike, excellent viewing. Didn't realise the Edgbaston extension was up and running. There's no way you'd get me on those rides at the end !!....my stomach used to churn going on the roller coaster in Thomas Land at Drayton Manor !

great tram ride it brings back memories of the the old trams that ran around Birmingham i remember something similar in the late 50s and early 60s of the trolley bus that i remember in willesden 🤔

Great trams 😎🇬🇧👍🏽 That spider ride at the end was a bit eerie 👀🤔 It was like 2 parallel universes there. People enjoying themselves oblivious on that ride, whilst all around them there was an eerie , cold silence🤔 It was like having funfair rides in a graveyard….somber 😧 Society has certainly changed a lot after that pandemic 👀🇬🇧🤔

They are working on new tram tracks in the Digbeth area now but I can see it taking a silly amount of years Bryan.

Nice looking trams Mike. I assume there some sort of hybrid as I could see no wir. I've heard rumours about a monorail, what do you know about that? Well done 🤓.

The trams are fitted with batteries located on the roofs of each end section. The extension between the centre of Birmingham and Edgbaston is a mix of overhead wire and battery operation. At the Edgbaston terminus, trams arrive and depart on battery for the limited height clearance under the fiveways roundabout. However the station area has overhead wires which the trams use only to charge their batteries during layover.

Don't know anything about a monorail Tony, but I see David Clark has explained how the trams get to Edgbaston without no overhead wires.
