Wow, 3 new (ish), very nice looking locos, Bill. I am 66, so don't worry about being in your 60's. I overcame brain cancer in my 50's, so every year is a bonus for me, it's all good.

Hi Bill, happy birthday, great two locos, all greased etc. and ready to start work, by the way the endoscope camera is brilliant I love your videos with repair and technical bits now really close-up excellent stuff kind regards Baz

Agree totally with you about “Hornby not giving a stuff about detail”. The 70s were the days when it was all about maximising assets for Hornby by using the same chassis under as many locos as possible regardless of reality- who can forget the 08 or Sir Dinadan ? The technology was there, look at Fleishmann, and Hornby only pulled out their fingers when Mainline and Airfix came along. Your new locos look wonderful. That Bachmann 2MT is a mixed bag - good detail but a crude chassis with no bearings on the axles.

I wobble about a bit and look quite tired ! Hopefully I’m not going to get replaced shortly. Nice presents. Both look good at the head of trains , particularly the Scotsman .

Hi Bill. Happy belated birthday wishes. 3 great models. Have fun with them. You said that the number on the front buffer beam came off with the paint. I would not worry about that as I believe they never carried the number there once in BR service. Just on the smokebox door plate.

Your new Scotsman purring like a kitten...smooth..... Your "offspring" sounds much like my son, who I like to call 'the son who makes a Father proud'... Happy birthday OO Bill..... BTW, the magnifying camera work is cool.... Ps...the layout and footage is just fantastic.... really appreciate your sharing 👍🙏😊🇳🇿

Happy belated birthday Bill. You're a lucky guy. I get socks and undies for my birthday, anything else I have to buy myself. All those locos were new (once) I've bought Mainline wagons on that famous auction site listed as "New" They haven't been made for 30-plus years so hardly new. Many folks think if it's still in a box it must be new. Thanks for the video.

Happy Birthday mate and thanks for everything. Your videos inspired me back into layout building (a Dublo 3-rail layout of all things!) and above all into buying cheap « non runners « on eBay. Over the last year I’ve restored many to working condition. I celebrate my 60th this summer, but I doubt my family will buy me anything rail related 😂. « My wife doesn’t understand me »as the saying goes 😂😂😂 No worries, I can supply my railway addiction on my own. I guess it’s time to start restoring the 2-rail collection of my youth in préparation for my ultimate retirement layout in a couple of years time ! Thanks to your channel over the last few years I’m now prepared for pretty much anything. All the best and looking forward as always to your next one.

Belated Happy Birthday Bill! Two superb new models to grace your extensive collection. They really look the part on the layout. Not advisable to use superglue on any glazing - the vapour will dry white on the glazing. I use PVA or Humbrols ClearFix.

Happy Birthday Bill! Lovely additions to the fleet, indeed! I have that Scotsman myself, and I quite enjoy it. I got mine brand new but it also had the same issue with the wind deflector being split in half on the side of the cab. Etched brass pieces would make a better replacement. You missed a couple things about it though: Although it came out in 2021, it's actually a retool of the 2005 tooling, which explains the chassis and motor inside And because of that retool, you'll notice that the footplate (like the 2MT) is made of diecast, adding significant weight to the model.

Belated birthday greetings. 😀The new Hornby BR 2 MT is definitely one of the best locos of recent years - exquisite detail, and it runs well too. I have the black livery version with the Keith Shed running number, which made it a must have loco for me to add to my Highland themed layout. Must haveititis is a well -known and incurable affliction in many model railway enthusiasts.

Hi Bill. I always surmised we were of a similar vintage and now I know: both born in 1965, although I would've been in the school year above me. A belated Happy birthday, as I've been on a cruise for 2 weeks and was far too tight to pay the £14 per day(!!) WiFi access charge. They are two very fine locos you have there. Hornby can produce excellent models when they want to. I am really enjoying your running sessions. As you say, sometimes you just want to sit back with a cuppa and watch trains glide around the layout. And watching these two is a real pleasure. Don't know if you recall putting an new motor in my boyhood FS a few months ago, but it has now been joined by another example. I went for one in its A1 condition (as this is how it looked when it topped 100mph). A1/A3s - and Gresely locos in general - are things of beauty.

To be fair to Hornby they do have the Railroad range which are more basic, but more robust. Which is great for those on a budget, kids or those who have reached an age where their co-ordination isn't what it was.

Nice birthday trains. The 2MT is a bit special, looks stunning, nice running shots. They'll both get a good run on your layout, which is what they're made for. Enjoying the close up shots too, nice addition to your uploads.

Nice locos Bill - that 2MT seems to have its reverser rod encased in some sort of watertight covering. Probably wise with that inclement Scottish weather.

Happy Birthday Bill! Love the new locos, in fact by strange coincidence I've also just picked up a Hornby 2MT and Flying Scotsman though sadly mine weren't presents and I had to pay for them. Still I got a good deal on the 2MT and the Flying Scotsman was a bargain. My 2MT is the club special which I believe is identical to yours except the loco number. They're lovely little locos aren't they? Almost all Hornby's recent small tender locos have been excellent*. The J15s, J36s, K1s, Drummond 700 and now the 2MT. All have diecast bodies, great detail and pretty good mechanisms compared to some other manufacturers IMO. * The exception being the Fowler 4F which I believe is an ancient Airfix tooling. The K1 is my favourite goods loco, mainly because as a mogul it's a bit different and the red banding on black livery looks good. They worked on the West Highland line so might be of interest to you and can be picked up quite cheaply on Ebay for £60-80 if you keep your eyes peeled The 2MT may be my new favourite now though. As for my new flying Scotsman like you I looked at the new 100 year anniversary Horby Dublo ones but wasn't prepared to pay that price. However I then spotted one being auctioned. It was exactly the one I'd been considering, an A1 in the1924 Exhibition livery with the LNER coat of arms on the cab side. I thought it would go for silly money, but it was one of those that seemed to go under the radar and I put in a bid and got it for half the RRP.😀 N.B. For anyone else interested in the new Hornby Dublo Flying Scotsman's I've just noticed that Gaugemaster are selling three of the versions (not the BR green or US) for just over £260 which is the cheapest I've seen them new.

A bootiful video🙂 I have a second hand Bachmann 2MT, Not as detailed as the Hornby equivalent, but still a very nice locomotive that runs sweetly. Mine was bought, 'good as new' for about a third the price of the new Hornby loco so there are some bargains out there still. Perhaps the Bachmann ones came on the second hand market as a result of people upgrading to the Hornby models.

I bought a green tender drive Mallard from eBay; it came without paperwork. Getting the Ringfield out was a near frightening experience and I chickened out of taking the body off the loco underframe so some of these tricky bits would benefit from a bit of close up. With 10.3k subscribers already you are clearly on the right lines Bill. Happy birthday for the 9th gone; it’s my birthday soon, any chance I could borrow your girls!

I have been at an exhibition and watched someone return a loco to a trader stand because there was something wrong with it (he had been able to test it on one of the layouts at the exhibition). I was disheartened to see the trader just place the returned item back on his stand. Put me off from ever buying anything expensive like that at an exhibition in the future.
