Thanx 4 watching...I actually have 2 birthdays a year. Because no one seems to wanna party in the winter, when its wet and cold, so I have another one in the summer. I often will move my birthday to the nearest weekend for convenience, although I do film and publish my birthday vids on the actual day....😁

got the mk 1 crusader kit, that I used for a camp burner with big pans as well, made a very short can stove with no holes just a top and bottom filled with rockwool, slow but very fuel frugal. or just drop meths straight into the fuel well, and don't forget to dilute your meths to cut down on soot. try cotton balls and vaseline for fuel blocks. cheap and cheerful. for a lid get some thin alu sheet, put a tea towel over the cup then the alu and batter it with a mallet. trim it down and make some holes for a handle.

Another terrific video. Loved your comments about losing your glasses. I've done that a time or two meoldself!! The plastic G.I. canteen is ancient. Used those back when I was in the service... a 100 years ago. LOL. Thanks for the commentary and the gear reviews.... very helpful. Best wishes..... Ax

I often use the same canteen/cooking setup. Love it. Especially the plastic cup. Its the perfect size for a meal, or to use a non-stick mixing bowl when making bread in the woods. Cheerio, and thanks for the vid :)

Happy birthday. Very nice piece of kit. The plastic cup is brilliant. I have a combination of the Canadian metal canteen and a French cup which is aluminium so I get burnt lips when it comes to drink anything.
@bexbugoutsurvivor7 жыл бұрын
The plastic beaker is a cool feature. On my USGI canteen cup I fixed gaffer tape to the rim of the cup, no more burnt gob for me....I really like the french canteen look a classy number....Bex

bex bugoutsurvivor Thanks for the tip with the gaffer tape. Will give it a go. Some of the nicer European kit is harder to come by here in Canada. That being said most of my favorite kit is European. I have an old Swiss smock and matching trousers, the French Canteen, and Austrian rucksack and webbing. Almost all of my extreme cold weather stuff is Canadian and I highly recommend if you find any and are looking to do some cold weather camping. Wish I could find a good basha over here. Closest thing around these parts is the USMC tarp.

Tip 1: Wipe neat washing up liquid over bottom of your pot before you put it on your stove. Wipe off pot after cooking the soot will come off easily from your pot. Tip 2: Add 10% water to methylated spirits it reduces the soot.

Started using an old boot polish tin when I used the Mk2 stove stand, put fire rope in it for meths and put the lid in the stove stand for hexi blocks (just a quicker clean up). That's a better gift than pants and socks you got there!!

I too have this kit, and many others lol, I have wound fire rope in a spiral into the fuel holder and feed it with meths (10% water) and no soot. Great kit and can be used with wood, pine cones, trangia burners, hexi, fire dragon gel, meths and ethernol. very versatile bit of kit.

Very belated Happy Birthday mate and thanks for a cheerful, albeit bare beechwoods video! I have used a variety of Trangia, Svea and Osprey cookwares for years as well as the Crusader mk I set which remains my favourite. I always use meths or fire dragon gel in it having nearly poisoned myself with hexamine once long ago. Occasionally a small, contained fire of deadwood sticks. The mk 1 base is good for that. Must say I like your idea of a cheaper plain rucsac with added pouches; stupid prices can be paid for some fashionable stuff to no real advantage that I can see. Almost all of mine, clothes included is army surplus, so called. Like I always say, if it is good enough for our special forces then it is good enough for me!

Nice one mate , I just got what must be the mark 1 then for my birthday last week, I'm not a fan of the hexi but it seems to work ok, iv always used the brass spirit burner , I havnt tryed it yet but I dont think the mark one stove is deep for the spirit burner so an upgrade to the mark 2 may be in order for Christmas. I make my vids in north wales as well, great vid bex , cheers.
@bexbugoutsurvivor7 жыл бұрын
That's the exact reason I got the mk2 just so it fits the spirit burner, you can use the fire dragon gel if hexi isn't for you, and a small amount will burn in the mark 1. I don't think you could salvage unburnt fire gel though. I love the look of the yugoslavia mess set too, but no burner....thanks the the watch mate.Bex

Nice one Bex happy birthday man from Red here in Cheshire! Ace videos, I use a combination of cookers but seem to go for a pocket rocket and gas at the moment.

Cheers man, I use pressure soves usually such as the svea and colemans. But like the idea of a pan set with water bottle, the stove section is a pig for sooting the pans, so will use the crusader along with the svea stove for now. All the best mate...Bex

Have you still got the mark 2 mug. Got rid of mine did the same thing to my fingers far to easy compared to the mark one
@bexbugoutsurvivor3 жыл бұрын
I don't like the indentation in the base of the pot, cooking sticks ans burns too easy,. Although its only meant to reheat boil in the bag rations really, also it doesn't balance well on smaller stoves, but that too was only meant for the MK2 basket stand....Stick to the MK1 ...bex

Hello Bex. A Belated Happy birthday and thank you for sharing your prezzie unwrapping :) I love the Crusader cook system and have both the Mk1 and Mk2 prefering the Mk1 in stainless. Have you tried using a coil of stove/fire rope in the fuel well? It works really well extending the meths burn time. I have used the gels and hexamin but much prefer this method. The idea came from Bribo Outdoors originally. Hope your back improves. Happy wandering. Paul :)
@bexbugoutsurvivor7 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul mate, I do use a coiled stove rope in the burner well, cant remember where I seen it before. I have also made a small pressure stove, and a penny stove too, these work great. Meths don;t agree me, proper vial smell. I also make my own fuel tabs and will show the stoves and fuel tab make soon I hope. All the best for 2017...Bex
@PaulOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
bex bugoutsurvivor Marvellous Bex will look forward to the videos. I too have a penny stove that I sometimes use in the crusader cooker but usually in my wood gas stove that I show in a couple of videos. I love your channel by the way :)
@neilcastell69517 жыл бұрын
dont worry about soot on the outside of your mug, it makes the fuel burn more efficiently, speaking of which Buy the lid ... it will earn its money back in reduced boil time and the knock on saving on fuel.
@bexbugoutsurvivor7 жыл бұрын
Excellent info, the lid is on the menu, I might make a lid from a drinks can though, and have a plan to make a soot free pressure stove to fit both models. have a good day bud...Bex

@bexbugoutsurvivor5 жыл бұрын
He hecho una tapa para la taza, de aluminio, hay un video que muestra esto en este canal. Espero que entienda su significado ....bex

Question. I'm looking at getting the mk 2 cooker and cup. I already have an 1985 issue bottle and plastic cup (goes everywhere when I'm out) will that nest inside the MK2 or is there a width difference? I don't want to buy more than I need.
@bexbugoutsurvivor2 жыл бұрын
The Mk 2 cook pot has a base, which differs in shape to the Mk1 cook pot, so wont fit on the hexi stove pot ring, and has a bottom indentation makes some gas stoves tricky to balance the pot. The indentation on the base make stirring the content to prevent burning or sticking impeded also. I reverted to the MK 1 pot albeit a lot heavier. If you plan on using boil in the bag meals and hot brews, the Mk2 pot is fine, if you have a stove to fit.... I recon you might be better of with the GSI glacier pot 500 ml fits a 100 ml gas canaster or Nalgene bottle, and is easy to clean, and the base fits a wider variety of stove, including the Hexi.... www.amazon.co.uk/Gsi-Outdoors-Glacier-Stainless-Bottle/dp/B00PFXI9I2
@andyventures65742 жыл бұрын
@@bexbugoutsurvivor was looking at the mk 2 stove and cup. Have currently a trangia 27 (bulky and don't get full use of it ) a decathlon gas stove (take a spare cannister in case it runs out....) And the bcb fire dragon. Like the fact the MK2 can cope with different fuels (trangia , gel/ blocks etc) .
@bexbugoutsurvivor2 жыл бұрын
Both the mk1 pot and mk2 pot fit the 58 bottle. Apologies for overlooking your question....bex
@vvs37963 жыл бұрын
They should do a titanium version of this set, unless it s overpriced ppl will go for it! And with a decent lid, bcs that plastic one they offer is a bit of a joke imo. For me porridge needs a good piece of butter:) there is an old sayin :you can't spoil porridge with butter. By porridge I mean not only oats but all sorts of crushed grains cooked in a similar way. Was it alcohol that made such big flames?
@bexbugoutsurvivor3 жыл бұрын
Titanium and direct food cooking don't mix. It scorches the metal. The anodised is a lot lighter than the stainless steel, but the anodised has a weird recess on the base, making it awkward to balance on other types of stoves, and to clean. I more often than not would use the stainless steel, albeit the heaviest of all. For lighter set up, I use the stainless steel GSI Glacier pot, combo with a Nalgene water bottle, and a compact stove..... Titanium vs Stainless steel kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXvGdKx9g8lqpqc Compact Orange Box Stoves kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5Wacp9pq8RoY7s

@@bexbugoutsurvivor I agree if we talk ABT more or less proper cooking titanium isn't best option. But these mugs mainly designed for boiling water, and doing some simple meals like porridge, cous Cous, or cuppa noodles titanium mug would be alright I think. How is this anodized coating, does it hold well? Thank you
