You have quoted from Khushwant Singh's autobiography, 'Truth, love and a little malice', which is possibly the best source for information about the Gandhis in the Sanjay and Indira era. Khushwant knew them very well, and was almost like a family member. But there is a small error in your otherwise great episode. At @3:04 you have stated that the Gandhis were a happy family in the 1970s. According to Khushwant's book, that's not true. Sanjay and Rajiv, their wives included, barely saw eye to eye and did not even eat their meals together. Rajiv even blamed Sanjay openly for Indira's debacle in the 1977 general election post emergency, in which the Congress got decimated. Sonia also possibly played a role in influencing Indira into not allowing Maneka to become her secretary.

Brand 'Gandhi' is a khota sikka in today's politics. People have seen through even the Mahatma's flawed philosophy and his head strong self inflicting exploits like support to Khilafat movement that lead to partition of India. Later Nehru jumped on the biggest foolhardy decision bandwagon by his Kashmir fiasco and followed it up with offering the permanent UNSC to China. Then were Operation Bluestar and Emergency of Indira. Lucky for her that 1971 victory came under her stewardship and we had a levels headed commander like General Sam Maneshaw at the helm ! Rajiv bofors gifted and Rahul Gandhi 😂 no less a disaster in itself ! Gandhi-Nehru dynasty is nothing short of a tragedy for India. It's time Nepotism is shunned in all parties and thrown out if the door so we don't have political fiefdoms.
