I’m Australian and have never put an egg in scones (sc….on…..s). We eat them usually at morning tea or afternoon tea.

Hi Jeni. I'm Australian and 64 yrs old and all my life I've used my Nan's recipe for scones and there was no eggs in them but there was cream in the dough and Nan said the secret to lofty scones was mixing the dough with a butter knife only and no sugar was ever in a scone your sweetness came from either dates for date scones or sultanas/raisins for sultana scones. Nan's scones were so tall she cut them into three pieces. She always served them with a cup of tea and strawberry jam and whipped cream for the scones. Biscuits to us and to English as well are a sweet thing which you call cookies. Nope we don't have cookies. We have never called our scones biscuits and scones are very light and fluffy and if its heavy then you failed. Nothing worse than a heavy scone and we don't scone as you would say loan we say it like from only with an ne at the end. I cook round scones and I have no waste if there is a smaller one left to hand press into a round then that becomes chefs treat lol. Just thought I would clear that up for you. Michelle

🇬🇧 in the U.K. we don’t use cream in our scone only milk usually full fat milk. Also we use self raising flour it has all that you put in your all purpose flour ie baking and soda flour. I’ll admit your biscuits looked nice couldn’t you use some sugar and use them as scones. P.S use a pinch of salt in your scone mix (traditionally )

Growing up way back when.... my aunts always made biscuits and scones. They usually made them round in shape. Biscuits were fluffy and usually for dinner. Scones were usually filled with raisins etc.but never sprinkled with sugar or iced on top as I've seen in bakeries. Their scones never were baked deserts as I see in well known places. Their recipes were taught to them by my Irish grandmother!!! Thanks for your video explanations.🤗

Hahaha in Oz a scone doesn't have an egg in it but nor do we have a what you call a biscuit our biscuits are your cookies and I have watched many videos of people eating biscuits and gravy and I don't think you would see that on anyone's menu in Oz except maybe an american expat and heres my scone recipe for you to try 4 cups SR flour, one can of lemonade and one cup of pouring cream. Mix pat out wipe top with a little milk cut and bake Cheers. P.S I have noticed that American cooks don't use store bought SR flour so you can make your own with bicarb and baking powder
@judyblaise1639

I’m from Alabama (in the south) and I grew up using SR flour and didn’t know about ‘plain flour’. Lol. Now I use both, but prefer my SR. Your scones sound good. What if you don’t have a can of lemonade(is it supposed to be frozen lemonade concentrate?). What do you use?
@annuello1
@annuello1 3 жыл бұрын
@@judyblaise1639 This is a little hard cause we all seem to have different names for things but here goes I have know idea what frozen lemonade concentrate is but if I tell you what I have used in the past you maybe will have an idea ( I think you call it 7up or spite or pop). I have in the past used Fanta and even coke told the kids the slightly orange ones were pumpkin and the coke ones were wholemeal flour you can also use soda water but I never put sugar in mine . I just keep a couple of cans in the pantry and one one fridge it works best if the drink is cold. I'm sure if you typed into You tube lemonade scones you would find a few recipes that vary from other people
@judyblaise1639
@judyblaise1639 3 жыл бұрын
@Annuello frozen concentrate is what you can make lemonade with by adding water if you don’t have fresh lemons. Using sprite or 7 Up is what we call cokes in the south - other names are soda, pop, or colas. Lol. Thank you for letting me know. 😁

If you don't have buttermilk, you can add 1 tbsp lemon juice (fresh or bottled) or vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let it set on the counter 10 minutes. 😊 Happy baking!
