I'm all for righteous anger but I am not sure if Bishop is angry here. Personally I think he is responding to the situation in his normally laid out forceful and awesome manner. His own charismatic style, and that being the genuine Shepherd of the flock he is.

I agree. I'm conflicted when receiving communion, because I don't want him to fall, and have the Ex.ord. minister fumble. Communion rail and patent holders. The Ukrainian Catholics have it awesome with the cloth, intinction and spoon.

My problem is more with Eucharistic ministers distributing Communion, rather than Communion in the hand. I mean seriously, the Bible doesn't spell it out, but does anyone really think (based on Scripture) that at the Last Supper Jesus put the bread on the tongues of the Apostles? Jesus answered, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with Me will betray Me. (Matt. 26:23) Are they dipping bread into the bowl? If so, then this would confirm that the Apostles touched the bread themselves. But we really can't make a definite determination from this one verse. Now, I realized that the Church allowed Communion in the hand in the U.S. starting in 1977, and many disagree with that move, but many of those same people would disagree with the Novus Ordo Mass also. I do think that by allowing Communion in the hand combined with no kneeling to receive, there is less reverence shown for the Body of Christ, which I agree COULD cause SOME people to not take it as serious as it should be. I know my opinion is just that, an opinion, but I really see no reason why Communion in the hand, and bowing before you receive it, cannot be considered sufficiently reverent, considering that we really don't know how Jesus distributed the bread at the Last Supper.

My sons messed up and ate mints in the vestment room waiting to serve Mass as altar boys. They know darn good and well there is an hour fast and why. Anyway, our priest told them they had broken the fast and they shouldn’t receive communion that day. He went on to explain why. That few minute conversation, I believe, had a profound impact on my boys. They learned more in those few minutes than years of parish catechism (even though they do a great job!) and conversations with their dear old mother. It was about way more than a rule. It was an intense experience and I thanked our priest for it.

This is because there is no catechism lessons any more. That seemed to stop being required sometime in 1960s. I attended Mass regularly since the 1960s and when I “rediscovered” Catholicism and began to study the faith in the 2010-ish, I was shocked to learn that the Real Presence is a central belief to Catholic Faith. That how little I knew from attending Mass alone. We need to educate more Catholics. (I know I wasn’t the only one who did not know that)

I went to Catholic school and our theology teacher (a Steubenville graduate) wanted to teach the Baltimore catechism. He was told he wasn't allowed to. This was in Maryland. My confirmation class consisted of circling adjectives I thought Jesus loved about me. That's not the Novus Ordo Mass; that's just piss poor teaching. No wonder so many fall away. They've probably never been told what the Eucharist is.

I think it is a trend that many of us are rediscovering our Catholicism. The internet/youtube has been wonderful in helping me learn more about my Catholic faith. I feel like I've walked into an old closet and found chests of precious jewels from my youth that I, at the time, knew existed but lacked much wonder. Now the wonder is much more evident. I speculate sometimes on whether when young I would have felt this wonder I am experiencing at this age, if I were taught differently. Or did I have to reach this age to actually get it? I think our place and time in history actually played a big influence. I can only speak as someone who knows very little, but the Catholic contemplatives seem to work on letting the symbolism idea melt away through spiritual experiences and interior journeys.

I agree. I had the privilege of attending a catholic grade school. Our day began with Mass, then 40 minutes of catechism. During this period, I learned the fundamentals of the Christian faith. As an adult, I transitioned to reading the Bible and various devotional which confirmed the bulk Of what I learned in my catechism classes. I thank God for my godly parents who made financial sacrifice so that their children could have this training and foundation.

I wonder if this lack of belief in the Real Presence has to do with the lack of reverence at Mass. If everyone is lining up to kneel at the altar rail to receive on the tongue in silence or to the tune of Adoro Te Devote, then people clue in that something important is taking place. If laypeople are handing out Our Lord to the tune of some happy-clappy Protestant hymn, how could anyone recognize that they are receiving the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord if they don't already understand the Mystery? 100% agree on the reverence of the mass. I’ve gone to a lot of different “styles” of the Divine Liturgy in my day and it seems insane that the dominant music we listen to while receiving the Eucharist absolutely blocks prayer. We could be listening to sacred music that actually aids or induces prayer. I believe that one change would make an incredible difference.

The young ones that are currently being called to the priesthood are very reverent and orthodox. I'm confident the Mass and clergy will be renewed through the rising generations. Bishop Barron - I came in to the Church through your ministry - 5 years later I will be the first to say: The masses in many popular parishes lack substance and are indistinguishable from non denominational services I left behind- bring back theology - bring back the Latin mass as a focal point for All Catholics - communion on the tongue - let’s bring our faith back to its core and like many FSSP parishes we will begin separating the believers from those who perpetuate modernism within the church and we will grow again

Yes! And that is what the bishop is missing. That is why so many Catholics don’t believe in the real presence. Many of the clergy talk about it, but then they show little reverence with these clown mass, polka mass etc. then everyone can put their hands on the body of Christ (Eucharistic ministers etc.).

As a young person I would say understanding the true meaning of the Eucharist was a big factor in staying with the church when I wanted to leave. God is truly present in the bread and wine and using this is a good way to stay away from lukewarmness. God bless you Bishop!

I feel nervous to share this personal experience I had because I know there will be doubters, but I had a powerful experience upon receiving the Eucharist once in Rome when I was in my early 20's (almost a decade ago). I basically saw God with my soul (not visually) and felt an overwhelming need to fall on my face in worship before him in the Eucharist. I think I paused for a few mins, because when I realized that I was just standing there, I also noticed that the priest was looking at me with concern while he held the Body of Christ before me. But, I will never forget that moment, and I can only hope others who don't believe will come to believe through the grace of God. He is truly present, and if we only saw him in the Eucharist with our own eyes, we would fall down in adoration before him. But, don't just take my word for it. Our Lord, Jesus and the Church said this from the beginning.

The other thing, too, is my assumption this Pew poll was English only, and probably limited to U.S. Catholics (who basically grew up in a country dominated by Protestants).

@@kaiserbillhelm9158 I beg to disagree. I'm as concerned about communion in the hand as any traditionalist. I instruct my kids (and of course I do the same) to be exquisitely mindful of crumbs that may be left in their hands. Sometimes I wonder if people are looking askance at this family that licks their hands after each communion! I first stopped insisting in receiving it in my hand with extraordinary ministers (they looked very perplexed), and now I realize that priests are in the same situation, and insisting with reception in the mouth creates extra situations for irreverence. So, if there's no tray to stop the crumbs that fall to the ground, I acquiesce with the communion in the hands. And mind the crumbs! I think there's a point in that maybe this custom is not helpful in promoting reverence, but I believe that it can be done with reverence as long as the faithful are well instructed. If I were a bishop I would promote going back to mouth communion and crumb trays (and bells during consecration!), and I would make it mandatory for the priests who want to keep it to instruct the laity about the doctrine of the real presence IN EACH CRUMB OF THE CONSECRATED HOST! Each one of them has the power to save all the sinners of the world!

@@lcringo3498 I don't think you can find the real presence in every crumb in Scripture, but it is dogma of the faith, don't remember from what council... Probably Trent. About the power to save all sinners, I think it's an obvious deduction from the dogmatic declaration. Saint Thomas wrote, in the beautiful hymn "Adoro te devote", referring to the Blood of Christ, "cuius una stilla salvum facere totum mundum quit ab omni scelere," which translates something like "of which a single drop can save the world from all the sins". If a drop of blood can do that, so can a crumb of bread.

I'm an Eucharistic worshipper and a 23 old years cradle Catholic. Receiving Jesus on my hands makes my faith stronger. When I took my first communion, I found deeply moving I could receive God Almighty that way. It was fitting with the fact I could receive God at all. And I'll keep doing it unless it gets forbidden. Because respect and adoration can be shown in many ways, and in that moment, I'm not only worshipping, but also celebrating God came to earth and made Himself touchable and edible for sheer love. My sincere congratulations to those who discovered something worthy on Tridentine Mass or communion on the mouth, but please, realize it's not the magic solution for everyone.

What would be the impression a non-Catholic would have if he went to a Mass and he saw Catholics licking their hands and fingers? As a Protestant outsider looking in, my guess is that a lot of it likely stems from Protestant influence on the Catholic Church. I've noticed on occasion a lot of Catholics inadvertently take in a lot of the ideas put forth by Protestantism, since it's the American default, without even realizing it conflicts with Catholic teaching, but I'm, of course, not an expert. Well, since He is all omnipotent (I presume you believe that) ... then He could do it. So you have to admit it as a real possibility. Second, you can do something efficacious in remembrance of someone ... just as you can do something symbolic in remembrance of someone. The "in remembrance of me" phrase does not impact whether the thing being done is real or symbolic. So that's a non sequitur. Second, why oh why would Christ have even done this (saying "this is My body...")? It's a deeply, deeply strange addition to a Passover Seder, particularly given Jewish norms on eating flesh and drinking blood. You tell me ... why would He have done it (and in this setting) if it doesn't mean literally what He said? What's the point? I'll tell you at least one reason (from a Catholic perspective): the Eucharist is the new manna, meant to feed and sustain us during OUR time in the desert ... and until we come into the kingdom. It allows us to partaken in God's divine life (His divine grace), as a means to keep us going. It also fulfills Christ's promise: "I am with you always, until the end of the age." (Mt. 28:20). I'm with Flannery O'Conner on this one. If it's just a symbol, to hell with it.

It means laying your life down and going all in for God. Not literally pealing his skin and taking a bite of his flesh and slurping his blood. The bread Jesus gave was the bread from Heaven. John 6:41. Jesus gave bread for them to eat and have nourishment but when he left what do we do since there is no more bread? It’s symbolic. Jesus is the provider of nourishment. It is Spiritual. If it is physical Jesus has to come back down every Sunday and we have to eat him every week. John 6:35: “Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Jesus explained what he meant before he told them to eat his flesh and blood. Jesus gave the interpretation and context so listen to him not me or a Catholic priest. Coming to Jesus and believing in him is what he means not eating his skin and flesh and slurping his blood. John 6:40: “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:54: “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” Jesus explained that what he means by that is to believe in him. John 6:47: “Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.” John 6:58: “This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” Jesus said “this bread” after he told them to eat his flesh. Why is he still referring to bread when it would be transformed into his body at this point? The power isn’t in the bread on the table or Jesus’s actual skin and flesh and blood. But Jesus Spiritually. God is Spirit. John 4:24: “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” After Jesus spoke all these things, Jesus explained to them what he meant. John 6:63: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life.” Jesus was speaking Spiritually. I wouldn’t speak so lightly of hell but then again you are Catholic.

@@TheSellenhut The Disciples and Apostles knew it was symbolic because when Jesus went back to Heaven they couldn’t eat him anymore. They knew it was Spiritual nourishment not because we were hungry. You can take it in an unworthy manner because you may be in a position of hostility with other believers. If people on the body of Christ and since we are all partaking together as one body we should not be in contention with one another. I’m not a Protestant so you can stop with the assumptions.

Thank you Bishop Barron, this has been on my heart for many years. When I was a Confirmation Catechist, The Real Presence was my testimony to my students. Michael Willett transubstantiation means that the substance of bread and wine changes to the substance of the body, blood, soul, divinity of Christ while the appearances of bread and wine remain. Here are a couple examples to help you understand. As we age, our appearances change, but our substance remains the same. When we eat, both the appearance and substance of food change in our bodies. With the Eucharist, the appearance remains the same, but the substance changes.

With all due respect, what did you think would happen when you removed Communion rails, allowed Communion in the hand, no longer kneel before the Eucharist, introducing extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, not to mention the lack of emphasis on the need to receive Communion in a state of grace? All of these changes were designed to diminish belief in the Real Presence of Christ. I appreciate Bishop Barron for addressing this concern, but it feels like he is pretty late to the party on this one. To any outside observer, I would think its pretty obvious by our lack of reverence towards the Eucharist for the last 40~ years that very few Catholics truly believe the Blessed Sacrament is actually the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ.

However, he has a huge platform and has been putting out videos for over 10 years, and has not spoken out against these changes to the mass and how they affect our belief. In fact he seems genuinely surprised at the statistics. Those things should make no difference in the eyes of true believers. I know Christ is present whether I take it in my hand or otherwise. Little petty things like this shouldn't matter. The important thing is that we all take the bread and the wine (or Eucharist for we Catholics). Christ is present always. The Eucharist is the greatest gift that Jesus gave to us. It is His way of being with us personally in a physical & spiritual way. Science has nothing to do with it. I had a personal encounter with Christ through the Eucharist. I was so lucky and grateful. Gratitude that He even bothered with me, He showed how important I was to him, a lowly sinner. From that point on, it is difficult not to be at Church. Just to say, "Thank You".

There was a time when my faith was in real crisis. It wasn't because of doubts (though they were present regard to some minor issues) but it was evident on practical level - I didn't pray, wasn't paying attention to my sins and I did them alot, wasn't reading the Bible. On all accounts, there was no difference between me or someone who is not only non-catholic but non-christian as well. The only thread that kept my faith going was eucharist. Nothing else was present, only the fact that I went each Sunday, with nothing in my heart, not feeling inspired, not feeling anything at all. But somehow I just knew that I need to go to the Holy Mass. That was the only thing I didn't want to break away from. And it restored my faith. It wasn't my work, my initiative, it wasn't my strenght to get up, to go again to the confession. It was only the gift of our Christ, present in Eucharist. After that falling away and getting up again, there was no doubt for me.

I did sin, too, one time, about 2 years ago (I think) when I went back and read my comment that the Eucharist as "symbol" and when it slides into my heart, I feel His presence. I felt so sinful and sweaty, and so shameful. I realized it contradicted my experience as a First communicant, when the Sacred Host stuck on the roof of my mouth, tried to loosen it with the tip of my tongue, but when I did it with my pointer finger, it disappeared; all my finger felt was the bare skin of my palette (the roof of my mouth). Then, the Last Supper played over and over in my mind like questioning my soul, realizing that it is the TOTAL love of Christ and His Church to believe that the Holy Eucharist is the actual presence of Jesus Christ, the foundation that concretize my faith, connectedness, and as a significant part of the Body of Christ: the Church. And I have to believe that the Holy Eucharist is the presence of Jesus Christ, like Bishop Barron said, or receiving communion and the totality of the Catholic mass would mean NOTHING to me; I cannot afford to LOSE FAITH. I HAVE NOW THEN BELIEVED THAT THE HOLY EUCHARIST IS THE ACTUAL PRESENCE OF JESUS CHRIST. HOW CAN I FOLLOW HIM if I deny His presence IN THE HOLY EUCHARIST?

As a past catechism teacher I can say there is 1 central problem. Teachers need to be tested on their understanding of their faith. Too many legacy Catholics and converts lack the knowledge they need to teach. Many parishes are happy to have anyone teach because it’s so difficult to get volunteers.

If it was not for the Blessed Eurchist keeping me on the straight path I would have left the faith a long time ago .I have been to the old Mass and the new mass and I really dont think it matters as long as you are in a state of grace .My only concern with the new mass is people dont respect the Blessed Eucharist and the Tabernacle and the altar as much as they did before.Nobody should be allowed to dishonour the altar with flags or anything else .We are all equal we are in a state of grace or we are not .With all the problems in the world today its the best place to go for any peace of mind and happiness. For me its like going to the Doctors once a week for a check up between me and God .Its been working for the last Sixty Eight years and I have been blessed

I am a catechist. I teach grade 5. While I was not aware of the Pew study, I got the sense that no one had taught my 14 kids about the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. I drummed this into my wonderful kids and told them that if they forget about everything in our class, they must remember that the Eucharist is not a wafer or a symbol. When Notre Dame was burning, the press was quick to report that a human chain was formed to save the crown of thorns but hardly anyone mentioned that the pastor willingly risked his life to run into the Cathedral to save the Blessed Sacrament. Throughout our church history, there have been many priests who similarly risked their lives to run into a burning church to save the Blessed Sacrament. Relaying these stories made an impression on my 10 year olds.

He filled me with Light. Several years ago I received Holy Eucharist from a Eucharistic Minister at Sunday Mass. As soon as the Eucharist touched my hand I was filled with a brilliant white Light, from the inside. I was not able to see anything but a brilliant white Light for a few seconds, and after the Light subsided, I was able to see again, and I consumed the Eucharist. This same brilliant Light has wakened me from sound sleep in the middle of the night a number of times since. I was at the time, and continue to be, a Daily Mass goer. The Holy Mass is the greatest “Event” we can participate in. The Holy Eucharist is the greatest Miracle in this age of the Holy Spirit. Read John Chapter 6 and believe. Read Saint Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians Chapter 11. If the Eucharist were not what God said it is, that is, “This is my Body”, and, “This is the chalice of My Blood”, one could not possibly profane the Body and Blood of the Lord (i.e. a symbol could not do this, or cause judgement against us.) FINALLY! Thank you, Bishop Barron. Now, please encourage every priest and catechist in your Region to proclaim the truth of the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Your children are starving for MEAT. We've had our fill of pabulum from the pulpit for way too long. I've been waiting every year for the past 35 years on the Feast of Corpus Christi to hear a homily on Jesus Christ truly present in the Holy Eucharist and its centrality to our faith. I have to really make a great effort to keep myself from walking out on the homily on this great Feast so as not to choke on the fluff being fed. I'm still waiting. I'm no trad and can take and understand a fair amount of "Nice nice" but there's a point where the straight truth must be proclaimed. I'd rather see people walk away because they can't TAKE the truth than to see them walk away because they can't FIND the truth in the Church. Of course, I'd much rather that people stay (and come) to the Church BECAUSE of the truth proclaimed (and lived). God bless you, Bishop.

It has nothing to do with receiving the Eucharist in the hand, it is what, and how you are taught about it. I attended Catholic school K-12. We were taught the Bread turns into Christ's body and the wine, His blood...pretty heavy concept for a 6 and a half year old...now these past years I've been a touch and go church goer, attending more now but shocked at the difference of the 1980's and early 1990's, some of the words of prayers during mass have changed, but what shocked me the most is people aren't kneeling during communion, and there is music playing the whole time, (we used to have the choir sing and the pianist or guitarist play while people were walking up to Holy Communion but then as we kneels and prayed after it, was a few minutes of silence), no quiet time to reflect and quietly be with God. When I was going to mass in the past and as a child 1. The whole congregation kneeled if possible until the Host and chalice were placed back in the tabernacle and the Priest sat down, some people still do but the majority are sitting??!! Very irreverent. Then people leaving before the Priest has left out the door. Long ago remember I when Father Patterson scolded all of us one Sunday, saying mass isn't over till the Priest has walked out the door, he was wonderful💖 I thank the School Sisters Of Notre Dame, Lay teachers and the Parish Priests who taught us well.

I have recently found the Traditional Latin Mass. The biggest draw has been the central focus and reverence of the Holy Eucharist. The method in which the rite is preformed simply doesn't leave room for any irreverence. Even those devout going to the New Rite Mass and adhering to all it's rubrics can unintentionally be irreverent during Mass. It's my opinion this is the leading cause of the issue.

I really want the Church to step back and reassess the permission given to receiving the Eucharist in the hand. Loss of faith seems to have been one symptom, which is a biggie.

That is also what my devout Catholic mom wishes for and at the churches I've went to over the years, I've always recieved Communion orally ever since I was 10 years old and at my previous parish there were no Communion rails except for one Church which was where my mom went to with her mother many years ago, St. Peter Martyr and it was the only church with a Communion rail. I now live in Florida in the diocese of St. Petersburg and my parish of St. Joseph's doesn't have a Communion rail but it's pretty traditional and I can't complain on it.

So I've converted from Christianity to Catholicism and I too struggle to understand the symbolism versus the truth of the eucharist. It doesn't taste like blood or bone and was said to take this in remembrance of me (so says Christianity). I feel it's the deepest form of connection to God and I know it's foundational to Catholicism belief. This is a mystery I've been working to understand and I did so yesterday by fasting and praying. The reason why most Catholics believe the consecrated bread is just a symbol is most homilies are lacking in true doctrine and no longer preach the Real Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ in the Eucharist. Some priest think that the words of Jesus in the Scriptures are harsh and does not promote the reality of the divine Scripture. Most Catholics are not even showing reverence to the Blessed Sacrament, no genuflection and dressed inappropriately in mass. Men in shorts, T-shirts, sandals while women dressed showing too much skin and most priests wouldn't even care to all them out because they are worried that they will offend the parishioners.

@Silver Snacker Yep, scandalous, causing other to fall into sin and Jesus is so offended by lack of reverence, sensitivity and no respect for the holiness of the sacrament. Worst are women Extraordinary ministers wearing low necklines and sleeveless dress stepping on the altar. The altar is holy ground!!! The reason why our church is big trouble, most priests and bishops will not fraternally correct individuals who commit such offensive acts.

If the Catholics respected and believed the body of Christ is essential, and that we could not receive it if we were living in sin without confession, I blame the complicit clergy for giving the Eucharist to sinners who still insist on promoting sin without repentance. Furthermore, the closure of the Churches and no communion during the pandemic shows the parishioners that the Eucharist and the church are nonessentials. What could have been reachable moments lost many to other Christian religions that kept their doors open and gave communion because, to me as I was taught, those are essentials. Sadly the Church is and has lost many, and will continue to lose many more, not due to the Catechism teachers, but the complicit leaders of the Church who are not consistent with the teaching and have opened their doors to accepting sinful behavior without repentance.

Bishop Barron, it seems as though most people in the comments point to the post Vatican II liturgical changes (communion on the hand, no communion rails, Eucharistic ministers, etc.) as the culprit for the laity's lack of faith in the Eucharist. What would be your reply to them?

That's exactly what happened. The beauty (including the Latin mass), mystery, ritual, and DIFFERENCE of the Catholic Church were summarily removed in favor of "making it easier, more relevant." Give them an inch . . ." Now they chew gum, eat, talk, wear outfits that would be better served in a bar or at the beach. Reverence is gone. Unctuous, nonsensical, useless "greeters" have been added, and the Church has declined along with the rest of the world.

I agree with your statement and believe also that the beauty of the Latin Mass, even though it's harder to understand, is a greater place for evangelization than the Novus Ordo, because of the greater reverence for the Eucharist. I had a friend who converted and fell away from the church shortly. She had told me that she felt as though she we're "taking a number" in a novus Ordo Mass. She didn't feel special, because the mass felt like every other Christian service she had been to. In the Latin Mass there is a Catholic distinctiveness which she desired and I believe many others also desire.

@@frodoraskolnikov196 Thank you. The Latin mass isn't really a taxing problem -- or shouldn't be -- when you 're sitting there with a missal as we used to. But, apparently, that was just too difficult for people to handle. So, they caved, caved to many things, and we see where that's gotten them. Except for the Holy Eucharist (which, according to Bishop Barron, too many Catholics don't even understand, thinking it's symbolic) nothing much separates our services from anyone else's. That must change. Catholicism should be and demand more, not less. Liberalism must go. It's part of the Church's problem. Liberalism and Catholicism do NOT mesh.

@@frodoraskolnikov196 When you dont kneel before what you consider to be your God, when you receive the Eucharist like if was a candy, when the priest celebrates the Eucharist facing the people and giving his back to God, this is what happens. 50 years of scorn towards the Blessed Sacrament. And it is all intentional. They know very well what they are doing. The pioneers in the US of these practices were criminals and satanists like McCarrick and Joseph Bernadin.

Thank you, Bishop. The Eucharist is not a symbol. The Eucharist is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hailing from Africa, I have had experience of the healing power of the Eucharist and also heard about many wonderful testimonies of miracles received by many through the Eucharist. The Eucharist works for us in healing, grace and miracles according to our belief. The Eucharist would remain a symbol to them that believe it is only but a symbol, but to them, that believe it is the real presence of Jesus, it is a fountain of grace, healing, miracles and blessings. Mostly, when I am sick, I thank God for conventional medicine, but the Eucharist is my critical point of call and I always get well. I think it is time, testimonies from the people of God who experience the miracles of the Eucharist are documented so that many can draw inspiration from them.

Lack of true faith in the Eucharist is directly connected to the absurd levels of irreverence and indifference during the Liturgy. One feeds the other. If someone walks into a Chapel and sees the behavior we see nearly every single time, will they believe there is something special there, someone special present? If someone walks into a church and sees the Tabernacle on the side like an afterthought, what is Mass but a group of people often in a literal circle around the altar watching some "priestly performance show" and hand holding? What is all this "building sense of community" if there is no actual Communion? What are we worshiping there?

Hopefully a wake-up for a pontiff who wants to place pastoral care above doctrine. Also, the liturgy is key here. If we believe the doctrine of the Eucharist than we need to act like it. The NO can be celebrated well, yes, but generally it is not. There is too much room for changing the rite: see versus populum, communion in the hand, happy-clappy music, focus on the personality of the priest. This all speaks to a lack of faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. The TLM does not have this problem. Catechesis is needed for both, but reverent liturgy leads to people absorbing the truth without explicit teaching.

This is a bit older, and Bishop Barron and I don't see eye to eye on everything, but I love him in this video. The Eucharist is very important. Most voices focus on the negative and this video does the same, but he at least talks about what used to unite Catholics and what Catholics should be united in. United in Christ, in Deed, in Spirit, in Mind, and in the Body and Blood too.
