Excellent Bishop. After almost 80 yrs of reading this scripture - it suddenly occurred to me that as Jesus was laid in a “manger” ( feeding trough for animals), He was in a sense coming to feed us - from there to Eucharist! Merry Christmas. 2018 🙏👏🇨🇦

I agree with you, Fr. Robert. It's utterly ridiculous and sad that, predominantly in the West, Christmas has become terribly domesticated and seen as just one more secular holiday among many. We have to stand a thwart that. It's offensive! How can someone celebrate Christmas and water down the fundamental message if they, at best, don't know Jesus, and, at worst, don't believe in him. We don't go around commercializing Ramaddan or Diwali, so why are they doing it to us? It's up to us to announce and explain the true meaning of Christmas. Thanks for this video.

When I was a lad, I used to think that Christmas was about getting gifts from Santa Claus. That really got me all happy. But as I grew up, I found the real meaning of Christmas. The birth of Jesus Christ. In today's society, most people forget that and it's tragic. But my favorite Christmas hymns are o come all ye faithful, Silent Night. O holy night. And I encourage people to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas. One group of Christmas that doesn't celebrate the holiday. Jehovah's Witnesses.

How's that working out for you lplplp? Are you getting everything you hoped for? Are people lining up at your door to be your friend? Are you exactly where you want to be? Obviously not. If you were, you wouldn't have the need to "shock" the Christians! Honestly, do you think we've never heard profanity before? I was raised on it! And do you think saying that about Jesus affects anyone other than you? That's you're damage, not ours! Sure, someone will see your comment and say "how dare he!" But most of us will see it, and chalk it up to yet another "highly educated" comment from the Bevis and Butthead generation! And to be honest, I would be surprised if the one you're hailing, since he was considered the craftiest beast, would actually want to associate with someone prone to saying things that only impress...well...Bevis and Butthead!

I heard that the reason we have Christmas and Santa obsessions was because of a few Protestants we envois of Catholics having the feast of St. Nicholas. I am disgusted with the mutilation of the Holiday with it being a day for materialism (Augustus Caesar) opposed to a day of spirituality (Jesus Christ). It's these Rev 3:9s!

Christ is celebrated everyday in the heart and actions of a true Christian, As well as special holidays. It's true that holidays are for the believers to enrich our faith in a way that is a cresendo to our daily actions of living out our Christian faith. Holidays are major reminders and refreshers of why we as Christians strive to live out our lives as Jesus taught us to. All true Christians know that it is not always easy to do! And as human beings we know that celebration is a Good thing!

Very keen insight into using the contrast between a baby manger king and a worldly powerful king. It's been an ongoing struggle for Christians in every generation to make this choice and it seems like today with the domestication of Christmas and much of many other facets of Christianity that it's getting harder. Pray for me and for our Church to not succumb to the world and to submit to Christ.

Actually the date of Christmas has a Christian significance too, at least the way I heard it told.The reason so many religions have a solstice celebration is because it celebrates the triumph of light over darkness.Christianity expands on that: it says that JESUS is the one who triumphs over the darkness and brings with him the light.I'm sure you're aware of this, but I was just pointing it out because it bothers me a little when people say Christmas is pagan so Christians shouldn't celebrate it

Very relevant message still today. The contrasts to Augustus are plentiful: Pax Roman vs peace on earth, a decree (dogma) from Caesar vs "good tidings" from an angel, Father of "the country" vs "my Father's affairs", subjection to Rome vs Jesus subjection to his parents, Caesar adopted son of "the divine one" vs Jesus adopted by Joseph who was truly "Son of God".

Great Story... Baha'u'llah of the Baha'i Faith glorified Christ saying: "The deepest wisdom which the sages have uttered, the profoundest learning which any mind hath unfolded, the arts which the ablest hands have produced, the influence exerted by the most potent of rulers, are but manifestations of the quickening power released by His transcendent, His all-pervasive, and resplendent spirit . . . He it is who purified the world. Blessed the man who, with a face beaming with light, hath turned towards Him."

With respect, the birth of Christ - Christmas - was watered down when the Church co-opted Saturnalia to appease Roman pagan converts and to separate itself from Sukkot - the Feast of Tabernacles - because of its hostility toward anything Jewish. Returning to the meaning of Christmas means returning to Sukkot.

Christmas is but one example, Cardinal Newman who is soon to be canonised as a saint, was a prolific writer. In his writings he is quoted as saying that every single aspect of Catholicism owes its existence to paganism.

Sorry to say so but your argumenti is utterly ignorant. We christians are ALSO called to celebrate EACH single day. Yet there are some days put specifically to remind us of certain parts of the mistery of Jesus., to walk with him through his life. Even if Christmas is on the 25th of december this does not mean one cannot meditate and celebrate the birth of Jesus each day.
@dantutko30304 жыл бұрын
Is there a reason that mankind only started celebrating Christmas when Constantine tried to unite the Christians and the Pagan’s by using the winter solstice as a made up birthday for Jesus? Also why does every example of a birthday in the Bible end with death of someone?

In fact, never have God's people celebrated birthdays, period (Ecclesiastes 7:1). The Bible has recorded only two birthday celebrations and both of them in a negative light (Genesis 40:20-22; Mark 6:21-29). It makes sense, that non-christians celebrate birthdays, because they do not know God's original purpose to be fulfilled, that we have everlasting life (John 3:16). Similarly, there is no point celebrating Christ's birth because he lives eternally with God in heaven (Hebrews 1:3).

So one Gospel has Quirinius as Governor of Syria and the census. You know a Roman census were everybody had to STAY WHERE THEY LIVED so you knew who to tax in the town. Strangely the other Gospel that tells a birth story had Herod on the thrown but he was dead 10/12 years before Quirinius was made Governor. So one or both stories are complete fabrications.

Most Christian scholars of world renown do not consider the Nativity historical. The two accounts in the gospels contradict each other. The nativity was added as a back story because Christians wished people to know how important Yeshua was. So essentially it never happened. No immaculate conception. No virgin birth. No journey to Bethlehem. No magi. No guiding star. No nativity. No persecution of first born males by Herod. It’s a mythical story filled with symbolism and little or no history. This is taught in seminary school and something catholic priests would be aware of.

In which year was Jesus born? The bible make contradicting claims on it. One story says it was in the time as Quirinius was legate of Syria so after 6AD. In another story the family of Jesus fled from Herod who died in 4BC and came only back after his death. So we have a gap from more then 10 years for a possible date and only on claim can be true so one is false. Who were these sources when they make contradicting claims? We do not know even know the decade of his birth.
@Entropy3ko15 жыл бұрын
I am not insulting you, it;s not my intention. And true the 25th of december used to be a pagan feast. So what? Should we scratch it from the calendar all together? No simply we took that day and we made it about the real God, about Jesus. So we take away this day from paganism and make it about the true God. No one in the Church says you should celebrate only the holidays. So, you see, you make some accuses but you clearly you do not know much about the RCC.
@FrankenBeenz16 жыл бұрын
Exactly. And suppose the one falsely known as 'Jesus' did not die on the cross making the 'rising' unnecessary and hence pure fantasy? What would that make of the Christian religion? It would render it moot. His teachings, his story was altered and falsified. But you cannot accept that truth, so are you really interested in 'truth' as you call it, or just reaffirming your current falsified belief system?
@Dimitrij9016 жыл бұрын
i dont really care what Thomas Anquinas ever said. and what he said makes christianity not humanistic in any form. "the glory of God is a human being fully alive." Ok my version. "the glory of Metal is a human being fully alive." or lets try this one "the glory of masturbating is a human being fully alive." still not convinced? These are so meaningless phrases cause u have to asume he exists in the biblical sense. But he doesnt. Thats the whole point.
@sharonsmith12036 жыл бұрын
Bishop Barron, how can you stand under a church who has bent the truth so much that it is full of lies and abominations. He is a Pope that does not defend Christianity with the word of God but hides behind it. He is a false pope. You are either for or against Christ. If you stand with this figurehead then you are against Christ. In all your theological study, you obtained biblical knowledge but you are exempt of true wisdom and faith by not standing up for Truth. What did you learn? Do something right for God instead of protecting your job. Take off your vestments and return to humility status. Stop taking the title of father. Stop separating yourself from the parish taking the best seats in the church. Ah, why do I bother. You will not listen. The devil holds you tightly.

Christmas is unchristian and unscriptural. It is obvious that Jesus was not born on December 25th and that this celebration and its practices have pagan roots. Yet should we ever celebrate Christ's birth? Never does the scriptures mention any of the early Christians celebrating Jesus' birthday. Surely, at least one account would have been recorded if it were important, or something Christians should follow. Instead, the only thing Christ wanted us to observe was his memorial (Luke 22:17-20).
