Loved this! At first I was saddened and my heart hurt. Then as I learned more about this building I knew that God already has a plan in store. 🙏🏽💙 I’m thankful that nobody was killed and that we are reminded of the love of God in all that we do. 💙

Yes my experience of this beautiful Cathedral was something that I will never forget. I arrived on Palm Sunday and was allowed into the Cathedral. I will never forget the spirituality and acoustics of this church. I think the term spiritually charged is an understatement. This visit has stayed with me my entire life. It was gutted to see this inspiring building burning.

Hi Bishop Barron. Looking at the flames that endowed parts of Notre Dame, I felt so helpless. So sad. Yet the Holy Cross stood proud on the High Altar. A sign to me that fire cannot destroy the great gift of faith that we all have, which will carry us through tragedies or disasters and, ultimately, our own death. I enjoyed watching the interesting interview.

Thank you for your thoughts. I was in tears watching this happen. March 14, this year, I spent several hours inside Notre Dame Cathedral with my husband. It was very quiet, not many tourist and so we just spent as much time as we wanted, walking, praying, photographing. My heart is very sad.

I heard the terrible news on my way out from the noon mass at St. Paul the Apostle church in NYC. By an odd coincidence, during mass, I had reflected on what Bishop Barron had taught us in the Catholicism series about the Rose Window at Notre Dame--that at the very center, at the very heart of the window, is our Lord, Jesus Christ. This reflection had led me to thank the Good Lord for Bishop Barron and how blessed I am that I live in this time in human history when I can be the recipient of this great teacher who serves as a guiding light on my journey of faith. Thank you, Bishop Barron.

Bishop Barron, you are one of my spiritual fathers & God bless you! I am sad today looking forward to Holy Thursday & Good Friday as we remember how our Lord gave himself, & now we see Notre Dame burn. You know I believe that God has done this because of how we have handled this recent unfolding of this crises of abuse in the church... truly we have entered the beginning of the Apocalypse. Let us not lose heart because the Lord promises to restore us. However we should fear greatly. Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy.

Very moving watching the live footage of the building spewing flames. I would say my faith was moved too, hearing the French folk singing whilst the footage depicted the building being consumed in fire . But the rescued relics having been retrieved and described and presented was beautiful particularly the gold and silver crown of thorns. I hope to visit when it is rebuilt. The sacred and the joy of the expression in that building are a glorious marvel.

You could feel the prayers in the air. Bishop Barron really put it beautifully and uniquely accurate saying Notre Dame was the most 'Spiritually Charged' of anyplace he's been - that's exactly right.

I've never been there, but I've always felt a connection to the Notre Dame Cathedral. I chose St. Jean d'Arc as my Patron Saint when I became Catholic, because I'd always been fascinated by her, even before I'd become Catholic. I'm not sure what it was about all of this.....about watching this happen, and hearing about the events surrounding this. I felt sick all day after I heard about it, and the next day I just lost it emotionally. I'm still feeling very sad today.

Bishop Barron, as you were speaking about the enormous spiritual and cultural significance of Notre Dame Cathedral to European civilization in general and French civilization in particular, I kept thinking of Hillaire Belloc's remark from about 100 years ago, "Europe is the faith. The faith is Europe." Yet, as we know, today the Catholic faith in Europe seems tragically moribund, if not perilously close to extinction. Let us hope that the rebuilding of the Cathedral might lead to a rebuilding of the faith in Europe!

If Notre Dame's walls could talk I wonder what history they would recount. It's a beautiful church which predated the European development of America and whose very identity was eschewed during the great terror of the French revolution. I am relieved and give thanks to God that it has survived. I think it will serve as a symbol of Catholic faith in France for generations to come. I look forward to the day I can attend mass here again. It was and will always be a very special place.

Tax day. Notre Dame. Bad day. Bishop Barron made reference to the French rediscovering the great faith tradition behind Notre Dame. From his lips to God's ear. As I watched the coverage yesterday, along my day's path, Joni Mitchell singing Big Yellow Taxi came to mind at one point. "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone..." A lot has gone in the life of Europe's Church, we hear in the states. Perhaps this material moment, jarring and saddening, come to place attention on the gapng hole in the soul of the West. God does, after all, famously work in mysterious ways. May the French rediscover what has largely "gone" in the way of the faith, and rebuild it as they rebuild Our Lady's house. "The Eldest Daughter of the Church"... may the mantle rise and take its appropriate place.

Sadly, this comment was made by the Architecture Historian, Patriolo del Real, from Harvard University to Rolling Stone Magazine: “THE BUILDING WAS SO OVERBURDENED WITH MEANING THAT ITS BURNING WAS AN ACT OF LIBERATION.” I disagree with this so-called architecture historian from a “prestigious” university. Does he not possess an appreciation and respect for the centuries of history in the beautiful cathedral? Yes, some are wanting the cathedral to break away from its Gothic architecture and have it reflect the French people of today-whatever that means. If it does that, it will lose the purpose of the Gothic architecture. Instead, it will reflect a country that has fallen away from Church teachings and has become an ultra-secularized nation.

Whether damaged or rebuilt, I am still asking myself: "What does this monumental symbol of Western civilization stand for?" Over visiting it several times, I went away with different answers each time. I have been struck by how all of this geometry came together and magnified 'light' and 'sound.' I was awed by how science and spirituality can work together in the geometry of this structure. Yes Science -- because the word is borrowed from the Latin scio, the first person tense of the verb meaning -- I know -- that knowing and spirituality can and do work together -- "Ignorance Stand Aside." I am here to journey and discover revelation! I gasp at how it took three generations of the same family alone, over one hundred years to create the three beautiful arches that face below, the front of the two towers as you are approaching the building; sons apprenticing with their fathers applying the secrets and skills of stonework from about 1260 to 1360. How many families did it take where sons apprenticed with their fathers, passing down their knowledge, to create this wonderful representation of something great? I don't know and I don't think anyone has explained it well either. It came to me eventually that what this structure for me really represented, really symbolized, in the greater sense, is the most beautiful, magnificent cathedral of all called the ‘universe,' created through the imagination of the Divine Almighty ITSELF. Is this what the builders with their trade secrets had in mind? Perhaps we have turned a page, crossed a line; doesn't matter, no need for grieving--because we are still here living and breathing within the most beautiful, most magnificent-cathedral of all!

Leafspring that modernist altar is only according to your interpretation. Jesus presence in the Holy Eucharist transcends any material things. The Holy Mass can be celebrated in an ordinary table as long as the Priest celebrant is in Full Communion with Rome otherwise even a Latin Mass celebrated on a beautiful altar loses its sacredness if celebrated by a Disobedient Priest to the Pope, how? Couldn't agree more. The rest of Paris will be on fire soon. Notre Dame is a warning. Protestant tables will all be crushed soon enough.

Leafsprig why the hatred for the 'table altar' it is always good if you have nothing fundamental and developmental to keep silent than spread............serious propaganda.

Brandon, I'm sure Bp. Barron appreciates you promoting him to the honorific of Cardinal when you introduced him as His Eminence instead of His Excellency at the very beginning of the episode. :-)

Seriously? The -windows- are the most precious things?????? As a priest I thought you of all people would have said the Blessed Sacrament was the most precious. How sad for my poor forgotten Jesus.

"The God of Faith and Reason". Superb. Who were those female scholars again who had used Husserl to understand or defend the Catholic faith? 27:04 Robert Sapolowski. Is that the correct spelling?

Love your videos. May I suggest a viewing queue alongside the music intro to get us into the mood as opposed to just seeing your faces waiting for the music to end. Also, I'd recommend framing your cams so it has a generally better layout, as opposed to a Skype call one Sunday afternoon.

@S B If somebody burned down all the churches, that would tell me who lives in them because people of that mindset see the church as attacking God when its just a meeting place.

@S B I don't know that it compares to Solomon's Temple but God allowed that one to be torn down to. Great architecture is a tribute to what God will allow the human to achieve but in the end, everything in this world will be destroyed and built anew. I understand the horror of seeing such a beautiful building being destroyed in addition to the history it represents but realistically, everything will be gone one day.

Never true. Our souls are immoral. Nothing material is. So I'm not very surprised, at all. Though it was sad seeing great Church and historical place slowly burned down. Not quite, meaning it is about faith that gradually fading or almost fading from the minds of men. Time to build both the material and spiritual aspect of our immortal life.

I read that the cathedral is owned by the French government. I find that a bit ominous. Considering the trajectory of European politics & culture I don't think anyone would be surprised if the refurbishment includes prayer rugs and a minaret with a crescent moon in place of a steeple with a cross.

The Vatican || altar totally crumbles yet the Traditional Altar still stands firm. Chastisement of the end times.Vatican Rome this kind of Chatisement not unlikely .After all the Authentic Roman Catholic Church and the True Faith is already ABSENT there.

Did Jesus say the kingdom of God is within us? That it grows like a mustard seed? I wonder is there a message from God from the blaze? The word is on fire, and now the church.
