I remember when I first learnt to drive, and before I had my own car, I used to borrow a Morris 1000 pick-up with canvas tilt which belonged to my father's company. I could only have it when it wasn't being used which was fairly often as the company also owned a Morris 1000 van and two Bedford trucks. I went all over the place in it. It was a 1964 model. I learnt to drive in my mother's 1960 Morris Mini, and my own first car was a 1965 MG 1100 which had a wooden dash and leather seats plus twin carbs. All long in the past now. I like the colour of your friend's convertible. He keeps it in very good order.

I do like classic cars for the memories they leave. I used to have the opportunity to drive a friends Morris 1100 to rallies as he drove his other one. I really liked that car.

Re. The transition to E10 petrol, around 31:30. Quite a few places now have E10 labels on their delivery pumps. Whether it really is E10 yet or just planning ahead, or maybe it’s a mix in the short term is not clear. That said, apart from the various potential problems with older cars like the 1000, one of the things to be wary of is the rather short “shelf life”, especially in cold weather, by the look of it.

I wonder what the benefits of E10 are proclaimed to be.

I must look into this. With such a limited mileage i do not fill up on a regularly.

@@TriflingCircle I have had a look at the government E10 Website where you can look up your car brand to see if its ok to use E10 petrol. Out Daihatsu Copen is cleared if its newer than 2008. They do not give any info on Morris! E10 is said to be a less polluting fuel.

My first car was a Ford Escort in 1982, from 1973 XTP 156L, brown in colour, not a bad little Motor, took me to Dorset and back happily in 1984.

I had an Escort too way back and enjoyed it apart from the high sill for loading the boot.

How does this absolutely gorgeous railway get its funding ? It must have tremendous overheads and inspections and liabilities and I can't believe this is all recovered from ticket sales alone ? Would this line eventually be open to Taunton at some time in the future ? There used to be another equally great train service too which ran from Taunton right over to Barnstaple via South Molton and Dulverton ... Beeching closed this one sadly .. They put the relocated A361 motorway over quite a part of it near Filleigh .!

The fact that virtually al those running the railway do so out of love for the railway and are unpaid does just about allow the company to survive in normal circumstances. This year is very different with the Covid restrictions reducing the number of visitors who ride the rails and pay for their tickets. Like most other such preserved railways there is a fear that books cant be balanced at present and appeals have been launched to help. When the railway restarted under the volunteers one of its main aims was to reconnect with the mainline at Taunton. Although there is a physical link, politics and differences in modern safety regulations between the main line railway and the WSR have stopped a regular service happening.

My first car was a blue 1966 Morris 1100. I remember it fondly.

Also my uncle had one of the 350 limited edition Morris Minor 1,000,000 cars, distinct ly coloured lilac. He really adored it, but sadly ruined it when he tried to take it to pieces, as he did everything.

Sadly no. There are classic buses that take you on to Minehead from Dunster.

Great Morris and nice colour, my first car was a "sit up and beg Ford Popular. Not very reliable in damp or cold weather.

Who wants to look at a boring old car, when you've a purrfect companion and Odney Manor to put a smile on your face? I'm glad you looked in at the tortoiseshell and white cat, and the model railway. I know you've had a ride behind a stinky unreliable diesel. In part 2, after you've been inside the signal box, I hope you'll have a ride behind either the Mogul, Odney Manor or Foxcote Manor. There's nothing to stop you doing so.

Ah my favourite critic! I think you are in a minority in not liking classic cars! As regards riding behind a steam loco, there is plenty of time to do that. This event only happened once!
