Bishopsgate bombing anniversary - BBC London News

It was 25 years ago that an IRA bomb in the heart of the city killed one person and wounded dozens of others. Now some of the never seen before images of the destruction at Bishopsgate have been released - giving more of an insight into the extent of the damage. It was this attack in 1993 that changed security in the City. Alex Bushill reports.

The Irish never started the war between England & Ireland it was the British. They thought having the upper hands military wise they could over throw and run Ireland. The PIRA did something similar with Omagh; gave badly-worded warnings that caused people to be moved towards the bomb. In Manchester in '96 they gave warnings, but with Harrods in '83 they only gave a vehicle number plate in their warning and the police were unable to evacuate.

I had this weekend off and my friend roy was the closest person to the bomb when it went off !. When i visited him he said i woke up on a pile of rubble and could see sky through the building. I was there that day...Served in NI so seen this destruction before but this was on a massive scale..Remember looking out of a broken window of a meeting room the view was like WW2 London a tailors dummy half out of a shop window....It was years later I find out my friend was working there and another had found the biggest IRA device in mainland UK that was later made safe...!!

I'm an American with Irish roots. I also have a bit of British roots. I know the history and relationship of Ireland and England. I know it's not the British people but the British government that have made the Irish lives so difficult over the centuries. The British put the Scots in Ulster and they put the Plantation system in place. I don't feel the British government knows how to properly compromise with people of Ireland. Ulster could remain represented by it's elected officials and still be part of the Republic. The British government started the fight and one day the Island will be whole.
