This game is a HUGE pleasant surprise! It's roll'n'write maybe, but it's decisions all the way and a real wargame challenge! It's going to be a big Christmas hit so here's all the details you need! :)

Great review as always, Solo! Another option I'll add for those who don't want to write directly in the book is to use an iPad/tablet if you have one. You can take a pic with the camera and just mark that up.

Or use the image in Miro on your computer (or any white board app) if a tablet is too small for your old eyes (like mine)

How do you mark it up on the iPad?
@molotovtiel2 жыл бұрын
@@Demy1970 Take a picture of the page. If you have a photo editing app (there are free ones), you can import it and just start marking it up as you would the physical version. Best with Apple Pencil but you can use your fingers too.

Are there other solitaire war game books that you recommend? I often go away mountain biking in my campervan and this book format is perfect for gaming hobby in the cramped space I enjoy whilst in the van in the evening

Appreciate the feedback again, thank you! I've not played others but there are some out there. The Fields of Normandy is one and there are a couple more in that series. You may find them on Amazon if you do a search, I'm sure I've come across them there.

Just ordered the game - great review and play through. Looking forward to playing it. Going to use zip enclosure sheet protectors I picked up from Staples store. They open up on the long side of the sheet. I assume the pages are 8.5x11 inches? Also have dry erase markers.

Yes I've heard that can be a good idea Rich, best of luck, you'll enjoy the game I know! And thank you for taking a look!

Someone on BGG mentioned tracing paper which is a good idea. I use those sheet protectors with an ultrafine dry erase marker like you said. That works well.

Awesome overview! I saw this mentioned on a forum I visit and then remembered that your video was in my queue. Have you seen that there are a number of similar books available as well? ~ So what happens when your Bismarck was sunk? Is that game over and start again or do you just try the mission again? And if you sink the Hood is it out of the game in the next mission? I’m definitely thinking of picking this up, or one of the similar book games. Thanks for the great video!
@soloboardgaming3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Each game/mission is a full reset. All forces on each side start with all vessels. In this way, it is not a 'campaign'. I understand that other bookgames are out there and I'm sure they're worth exploring. This has been very successful so I think there's a big untapped market. I for one would love to learn more because it's such a fabulous format!

Which do you prefer bismarck solitaire or waterloo solitaire? I am a very casual solitaire gamer who prefers something "not too thinky" and around 30 mins max. Thanks!
@soloboardgaming2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! Difficult to choose, and it depends on your interest. Personally, prefer Bismarck a little more. But Waterloo plays just slightly quicker on average. But both games are approx 30 - 45 mins.

Wait, you are writing in the book? - how can you replay the game? Easy to erase?
@soloboardgaming2 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for taking a look! Yeh, that's what it's for and there are several copies of each difficulty level so you can do each one 3 times. And I use a 5B pencil which is very soft so easily erased if I ever do want to do that. Some people photocopy, others use an acetate so all options are there.

Clip on a clear sheet of mylar or small plastic sheet- buy a small picture frame with a plastic photo cover. China markers/grease pencil come right off the plastic.

I might still have some 'ancient' tracing paper in the garage. Clip it on & SET SAIL!!!

Or...slice open the long end of a page protector to cover over the page. China markers. Dry erase markers are okay, but way TOO EASY to accidently rub off.

And another one I'll order right away... you drive me poor! ;) But I find it a bit unfortunate that they use the rather horrid Amazon book printing (almost every single book printed by Amazon tends to wear out very soon, losing its plastic covering and generally feels very cheap). As the book itself isn't that cheap I would expect a better quality here. Anyway, still no reason not to order it. ;)

Thanks for looking in again sir! Interesting comment on Amazon printing, wasn't aware of that! I'll have to see how things pan out. I'm sure you'll enjoy your game and I'm sorry if I caused a run on your funds! Thanks again for your great feedback, appreciated! :)
