The funny thing is that what is being done in this speedrun is about exactly the sort of thing I would expect a James Bond character to kind of do irl, (if real life worked like this of course) what with the luring guards and taking adventage of their mode of operation, using explosives to take multiples of them out at once etc.

I'm not a speedrunner but I watch quite a lot of speedrunning videos (especially Goldeneye videos because it's my second favourite game of all time) and in my opinion, DLTK speedruns are VASTLY superior to A, SA, 00A etc, far more impressive. Those guys will look at the ground for the entire run if they could and that is so boring to watch. Now get a guy who actually masters the level, actually MASTERS IT and doesn't just look at the ground the whole damn time -- that's a dude right there.

For those who wish to get a DLTK completion of your own, I highly recommend Surface 2 DLTK as a first. Facility, Bunker 1, Archives, and Frigate are similar in difficulty as well alongside those. Coincidentally, a subset for Dark License To Kill was recently made on Retro Achievements, and it looks to be one of the hardest sets on the entire site. Despite being out for four months, there are still 8 levels with zero completions outside of Softcore (which lets you load save states and rewind the game). For comparison, on the same site, thirteen people have beat the entirety of the original Ninja Gaiden deathless and sword-only, and two people have beaten Ninja Gaiden damageless. The sets for those have existed for much longer though.

Without looking, I'll try and guess the levels with zero completions. I'm thinking... Caverns, Control, Cradle, Egyptian, Jungle, Statue, Archives... and Aztec of course, although I honestly am finding it hard to envisage barely any of the levels being possible without save states and rewinding. Surely there are too many areas where not being hit is actually IMPOSSIBLE with everything at max...

Two words explain this challenge: “Beyond Bond” Knowing only 10 people beaten it, it’s truly crazy how much they went through just to get it to work out! Yet knowing how big our gaming multiverse is, there’s always something else out there that’s potentially more improbable and harder than this! And I do understand how hard this one is!

Fantastic video and the TAS recreation was a brilliant idea so we could have a top-down representation. I do want to clear up one thing regarding the Explosions for people who want to try using those strats themselves: Explosions are only insta-kills when a Guard doesn't have Armor. Similar to Bond, Guards can have Armor which allows them to take more hits and is an invisible value, there isn't a Body Armor model that guards can wear like Hats or Sunglasses. The way to tell if a Guard has Armor is whether or not they do a damage animation. If a Guard grabs their arm and is bleeding, they have 0% Armor and are losing Health. If the Guard keeps shooting and isn't bleeding then they have Armor and you need to deplete all of it before they can lose any Health. If a Guard has even 1% Armor then they will run right through the Explosion regardless of how much Health they have whereas if a Guard has 1000% Health but 0% Armor then they die immediately. Fortunately none of the Guards in Silo have Armor so Explosions will always insta-kill them but other levels like Caverns will have Guards with Armor. This also applies to Bosses like Xenia or Baron Samedi, you have to deplete all of their Armor before you can insta-kill with an Explosion.

Main things tyat increase my positive opinion of this game are bullet starting point being at the gun, enemies being right or left handed, and that having an effect on gameplay, and neat grenade mechanics! Deing able to exploit railings is kind of a large oversight, but I understand how railings are an edgecase for several of the game's mechanics.
