Bison Fight - Yellowstone

On our exit from Yellowstone, we were treated to this bison brawl. There was a bit of concern over the safety of the van.

Theses are not Buffalo they are Bison. Yes, Bison tastes great and healthier to eat than a lot of meats. Try a real ground Bison burger.

They had a perfect chance to go, the road had cleared, but they did not take that opportunity and soon there were angry fighting buffalos in front of them again blocking the road. It turned out okay but I've seen videos where the buffalo turned the vehicle onto its roof in anger. The passengers are caught at the mercy of the driver who may not have good timing or judgment and passengers are not his first concern. Those gawkers are sitting among these rutting enormous testosterone-driven animals where they don't belong. It never fails to irritate me how they stare at them up close through pointed cameras.

True , bears will also hunt them as well. I'm no expert but generally wolves and bears will go after the smaller or weaker ones in a herd. A healthy large adult bison will do severe damage to a predator in a fight for its life!

they'll usually go for the weaker smaller ones unless they're desperate. Predators are usually not stupid, got to weigh the risk reward and getting hurt in the wild could easily mean a death sentence. Hence why for some animal encounters, you're advised to appear as big and loud as possible, you want to make them think you're not worth the effort and possible injury.

Obviously everything goes for the weak, sick, old or young. But they have and do go after healthy adults as well. It all depends on the situation. Besides even young or weak bison are still stronger then humans. And to think how easily a pack can bring these animals down is impressive.

That was actually a good thing. Blowing the horn and distracting them because they was about to go at it! And it's very VERY easy to tell who the "Big BULL" was and who the challenger was. The challenger had himself at a losing angle right from the start. He would have been killed if he hadn't run if they hadn't been distracted. I HATE this so bad LOL but that's just what they do. Sure ain't nothing I can do about it lol I ain't about to mess with a Bison. I'm staying out of their way!!

Actually, having been to Yellowstone several times and watched the bison interact with tourists, I think they rather enjoy getting in the way and showing us who is boss. When one of them steps out in front of your vehicle, they are immediately in control. The fact that they like to walk perfectly down the center line of roads says something. Cars behind don't pass. Cars in front stop. They own it.

Wow that is really cool, fun fact Yellowstone is the only place bison have continuously roamed since prehistoric times. Also, in 216 the bison became the national mammal of the United States when President Obama signed them to be so. Also woah this was taken 10 years ago!? I was in high school at that time! Crazy yet cool to look back on that stuff from the past. Bison are great to see and get close to though they can be dangerous. Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year.

Having treasures like Yellowstone available for us to experience gives us a great appreciation for all the wildlife there and helps us recognize the need to keep and provide a place for them. I’m thankful for the experience, the bison still ruled the road, and we all got along well.

Yellowstone, like most of the national parks, is way too vast to do that. Heck, Yellowstone is larger than the state of Delaware. Also remember for the better part of a century, and especially in recent decades with population boom, everything has been just fine with people driving through.
