We visited Yellowstone in 2010. Wow! What a fantastic place! My husband and I were seated at a picnic table in one of the posted picnic areas enjoying our lunch, when a couple of bears entered the area. I froze even though I felt an urge to run. We sat very still until they moved on. A park ranger stopped by and told us we were right not to panic, no one can outrun a bear. My husband told the ranger he only had to outrun me. We also had close encounters with bison at one of the camp grounds. They can show up just about anywhere. No one was enticing them or trying to get selfies. They just strolled thru the campgrounds. It’s their home and we are the uninvited visitors.

I'm sorry for what happened to that lady, but there are signs everywhere at Yellowstone National Park. We humans can easily forget that the park is their home, not ours. We are simply put encroaching on their land. In fact anywhere humans go on the planet, the wildlife and oceanic life was there way before humans touched it. This is why the indigenous people give back to mother earth and use every part of the animal they hunt and treat them with respect and dignity and they have spirit animals. They understood that we were merely tourists to the garden that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ made for all life. They are wild animals, they may have become used to human activity in the park, but that doesn't mean they don't sense danger, or pheromones, fear, and for the ladies if you are menstruating it is better for you to wait until your done because wildlife smell everything and you do not want them smelling your cycle especially during mating season. Do some research before you go to places you don't know or countries you don't know, learn how to be respectful and cautious of the environments your headed too. To many, I hate to say this, but too many Americans go to places not knowing the rules, the culture or the preventative measures to be taken prior to going to these destinations. When the signs clearly state beware of wildlife, this is their home please stay back 25ft, and do not try touching the wildlife. Then you see people walk over to the animal to try and take a selfish with it, that is called being stupid, not ignorant because you can read the signs, so at that point your being disrespectful and rude, so you deserve everything you get. Most of the time the animal is oblivious to what your doing, but when you encroach on their personal space, that can set them off and that is a one ton to two ton animal, basically with spears that will gore you. Do better. The thing that gets me the most are entitled Americans that are used to doing what they want when they want, go to England and see the signs all over Buckingham palace to not bug the guards, or do not touch the horses and they do it anyway with this air of entitlement and then the guard yells at them as a warning but continue anyway with an intolerable, insufferable laugh of condescending attitude, then get yelled at til they start insulting the guard who is just trying to do his job. That is the stuff I'm talking about. Sheer ignorant entitlement. If you get run over by the guards after they order you to make way for the Kings guard and you just stand there, you deserve to get plowed into. The lack of respect towards places like this is abhorrent. Then they have the audacity to sit on social media and bash the guards for doing what they are supposed to do, they gave you fair warning and yet you think they can't do this, then whine and cru about a guard doing exactly what he is supposed to do. They aren't your clowns to dance at will for you, they are doing a job designed to protect the king at any price. Please do research prior to going to these destination it could very well save you alot of needless suffering or even prevent loss of life. Wake up.

There were several times on the roads that traffic stopped, people got out to take pictures of them crossing but no one ran up to be close to them. One night in the car, they (bison) were literally running next to our car and I was no more than three feet away as we were going in the same direction. It was scary but they were just doing what they do in herds. One also came to the campsite and just wandered around. That was a tad scary but we just sat there and watched the beautiful animal.

How could they know that bison are wild animals? No way for the couple to know that they could get injured. For all they knew, the bison was domesticated and potty trained.

@Deebo277 OMG, you know that many people lack basic common sense and will believe that you're serious!

I just dont understand how some humans can be so stupid, they know the dangers of getting too close to wild animals but yet temptations get the best of them then they end up getting seriously injured or maybe one day dead.People should be smarter than this but obviously not.

Folks need to leave wildlife alone, bison attack, guess what, what do swimming with sharks do, what about alligators, pythons,, how about grizzly bears, why are you playing with a killer bee hive dude, I just got finished about talking about wildlife & hey over there what do you mean your going on a 10 mile hike in the middle of the day with record heat advisory with less than a half a bottle of water?

I love the Bison and know how dangerous they are and sure many would agree 🌹 BUT these idiots think they know them ... Only one problem and that is these idiots set horrific outcomes for those who use sense and stay clear🕊️ R.I.P
