So much talk about Alex’s takedown defense no one mentions Glover has this man lethal in ground n pound. Ppl forget the brief collective dread we all had when Alex got on top only for the bell to sound. Had he gotten top position for any longer and even then it felt ominous. Imagine after 5 months of dedicated training with one of the sport’s most elite. The size of Alex will devastating if it hits the ground this time. The first offensive position alex has on the ground will be the last sequence of the fight. And even if it’s not, it’ll tire Izzy making him vulnerable. At some point alex will cut him off on the feet. Izzy just needs to flatten him before that or risk going to ground and stealing a couple rounds then finish an exhausted Alex in championship rounds - both of which feel unlikely IMO.

I also do think Izzy was immensely impressive in the clinch. His ability to snatch body locks was shocking. But that would appear solved with more confidence if they hit the mat from Alex. Izzy’s best shot is also chi’s most vulnerable: he’s not only going to have to trade, he’s going to have to go head hunting. Unfortunately I’m sure that’s exactly what Alex wants. Either way this is going to be devastating whoever wins

I think Alex is in one of those positions that he can make weight, but zooms back up with hydration and protein. I think some do it better than others. Certainly someone that's naturally walking around at near 185 will not zoom up to anything more. So maybe there is this happening. If it is, I don't see Izzy ever beating him, unless he catches him in a mistake. For this fight, I see an actual, lights out, knock out that leaves Izzy on the mat for a long while. Alex will probably train closely on keeping his chin out of the zone better, otherwise he's fine.

Izzy probably wanted rematch as soon as possible before Alex get better on the ground. He could use 'wrestling' to bleed some time after getting ahead on scoreboards with striking minimizing the danger of making mistake as Alex would need to get the finish or win some rounds to catch up getting more agressive. Izzy knows he won first KB match and knows he can hurt him (just have to do it in the middle of the round, not 5s before bell) so there is a chance. I'm leaning towards Alex though as he only needs one Izzy's mistake and 25min is long time to be perfect

I don't think Izzy is coming out to wrestle but I think he's going to use wrestling as a tool to try to keep Pereira off him. When he starts to get tired and Pereira is trying to back him up against the cage, he'll use grappling to release the pressure. I think that's what they learnt from the first fight. When his legs aren't moving the way he wants them to he needs another way to stop from getting backed up against the cage and I think he'll be using wrestling to do that.

It was the calf kicks from Alex in the earlier rounds on Izzy’s legs that fucked up his movement n allowed Alex to back him against the fence.

This is one of the most false premises I’ve ever seen so habitually pushed by the community. I know it was what Izzy said. But it’s simply not true. There’s an extremely long history of evidence of how the leg behaves when the peroneal nerve is effected. NEVER does he display an ounce of those symptoms UNTIL his trip in round 5 at 3:57. But it was how Alex was checking that tripped him. Allowing his leg to swing and that was a heavy kick . Coupled with Alex had closed a lot their distance that Izzy used to range his calf kick, Izzy underestimating how far through his leg came across. Which is another reason a high level kick boxer checks like this. It actually destabilizes the one throwing it rather than planting a knee down which had huge consequences if you can’t time it. Alex clearly respect the hell out of his leg kick to not risk it. But Izzy miscalculated his foot position which lead to him clipping his own leg when he reset. Alex never threw anything I saw under the knee. All of it above the knee to the thigh and Alex not a SINGLE time checked with his knee. Alex wasn’t even “checking” these kicks with force - I counted 15 checks all exactly the same where he deadens the blow by lifting as most kick boxers do to allow their lead leg to return to natural position quickly. It was Izzy who was going for calf kicks the entire fight and the first time in his career he couldn’t land them aside from some of Whitaker. Izzy is a phenomenal champion and frankly he took the loss incredibly well but he used the nerve as an excuse - he still have Alex credit but not for the right things. This delusion will cost him the rematch if he doesn’t account for that.
