Most content creators: Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I've been raising a puppy and refurbishing my house, which has taken my time. Bisqwit: Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I have been in a hyperbolic time chamber compressing 10 years of studies into 3 to become even more powerful.

The best teachers are those that give the impression they’re just one step ahead the student, because they can level with the student’s problems and show how to get past. In KZbin it’s very difficult to accomplish that.

@@Fintroh What are you talking about? If you are referring to a situation where some students were trying to enter the classroom when it wasn’t their class, yes, I blocked their way and told them to leave (I don’t remember which day this was). I am allowed to do that. As for you (I am only guessing who you are), I think you forgot your book and notebook in the classroom on Thursday after the exam. Come pick it up on Monday if you have time.

@Bisqwit
@Bisqwit 3 ай бұрын
My method was somewhat gamey: finding a balance between minimal effort and good grades. I got quite good at it. One important aspect was in being organized: I spent significant effort in maintaining sheets, tables, charts etc. about the progress of my studies. In particular, a listing where for every course in progress I listed every deadline with color coding that indicates how urgently it is impending. If the task was due today, I would spend today working on it. I never attended any lectures or exercise sessions that were not mandatory, trusting that I can gain enough knowledge from the slideshows, course booklets and such, or even just search the digital book for applicable keywords on demand, and trusting that I possess the mental faculties to understand just enough that I get the exercises done. Once the model solutions were posted, I always read them through so that the next time the same or similar task appears, such as in the exam, I have gained enough understanding to do it properly. Of course, given this method, courses that actually required attendance seriously slowed down my performance.

@@Bisqwit I'm curious what you use to make these "sheets, tables, and charts" you use, as I am back in school at 40, and struggle severely to maintain a practical schedule with my old method of attempting to schedule my life in a notebook. I've noticed over the years you always have very neat charts in your video presentations. What did you use to make the large chart of courses in this video that is updating over time? What application do you use to make your color coded deadlines? I would love detailed examples so I could adapt your method to my life, I'm sure other's would too. I realize this question could lead to a very detailed response. Maybe a video idea when you're less busy?
@Bisqwit
@Bisqwit 3 ай бұрын
@@grumpyssandbox8363 Man, your comment was hard to find in KZbin studio… Finally found it by browsing the comments in the video. Not your fault, KZbin is just painful at times. On the other hand, your question is easy to answer. The color coded deadlines is a spreadsheet in Google Docs. It generally looks like this: imgur.com/a/bT7hJbx The example course shown is Linear Algebra and Matrices II from two years ago. Other ongoing courses would be listed below in a similar manner. Once the course is finished, it would be moved to another sheet (tab) in the document, and marked finished (valmis). Words shown are: Laskuharjoitus = homework, Vertaisarviointi = peer review, oma arvio = self-assessment, vert = peer assessment result, Koepisteet = exam points, arvio = estimate, Harj.pisteet = homework points, Yhteensä = total, Arvosana = grade, Loppukoe = final exam. The animated chart is a webpage, written in PHP. The second picture on that same page (imgur.com/a/bT7hJbx) tells more details in a reply I wrote to another person.

@@Bisqwit Very nice, thank you sir! I doubt you would take issue with me copying your php snippet to modify for local personal use? I guess using Google Docs or any spreadsheet should be obvious, but I'm still stuck in the early 1990s and use plaintext or physical notepads for everything and it's just too messy. I appreciate you taking your time out to answer and will make good use of it. Also, no notification from KZbin at all about your response, I came here and had to find and open the comment as well.

Bisqwit is just speedrunning trying to get 100% achievement completion, but IRL. Incredible. BTW, I still remember watching and commenting on "The doom-style renderer video" years ago in my programming infancy. I'm now in the industry, doing C++ for past 3 years and I partially attribute programming being my passion to this channel, even if I don't have a reason to visit it very often anymore. I think of it as "the music you listened to as a teenager", it gets stuck and trapped in your heart forever... and I still haven't made that doom-style renderer, but I will, eventually. When I do, THAT video will be the one I'm going to revisit, again. Cheers!

I did the same; I left a comment on that video because something clicked when I watched it. I was trying to build a little 3D game entirely from scratch, and everything suddenly made a lot more sense after (or while) I watched that video. Since then I have not stopped programming, and even now that I am out of college, I'm still studying math, physics, and computer science in my free time. I've been passionate about programming since I was little, but I do have to thank Bisqwit for unlocking something in my brain with that video, and for getting me hooked on C.

Hi Bisqwit, I'm glad you're doing well! Your programming videos for C++ (especially the one about parallelism) were a huge inspiration for me in 2017, the year I started college. I learned so much from them, and they helped me realize that, given enough time, I could write anything. For the last 3 years, I've been working my dream job in programming (doing lots of Linux kernel work, virtualization, memory management, etc.), much of it in modern C++ (the userspace bits anyway). Hello Bisqwit! Just recently found you and find you very cool. You are the most optimal combination of intelligence, drive, charisma, and sincerity of anyone I know. Granted, I am extremely antisocial, but I do not think that makes my conclusion incorrect. Your humor is also very appreciated. I have a question for you; would you agree that everyone is controlled by the thing that destroys them (as opposed to the things that please, empower, develop, or comfort)?
@Bisqwit
@Bisqwit 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting. Your question is interesting. What am I being controlled by? What am I being destroyed by? I think it depends really on the perspective. If a person is living their passions, actively doing career choices, then one could say they are controlled by a thing that pleases or empowers them.

@@Bisqwit Thoughtful reply. What destroys us varies, sometimes it is cancer, sometimes addiction, sometimes it is errors in philosophy. Many thing, too much to list. What I observed is that when confronted by an explicit terminal threat, we tend to dedicate and center our lives around that threat. So, say one is diagnosed with terminal cancer; all of a sudden all of ones thoughts and actions become dictated with that in mind. Or say one is drafted into the military at a time of war; all of a sudden all of ones choices and actions are made within the framework of trying to survive that war. Things that made us happy or fulfilled prior lose value.

It's simply nice to hear your soothing voice again. You take care of you first - the other stuff can always come when you're good and ready for it. Not gonna lie, still hoping you'll crack Wall Street Kid's absolutely insane password system one day though!

Thanks for the suggestion! Now, you still remain the only person to suggest this so far, but because of your persistence, I will bring it -many steps up- to the top of the todo list. Thank you!

@@Bisqwit And thank you for all of the good work, on KZbin and elsewhere. Best of luck on the job hunt and other studies! And remember to take time for yourself, too.

Welcome back. As a follow on from the comment censorship woes we explored together it might be interesting to explore dead internet theory in light of LLM's.

Hey Bisqwit, what's your take on all the AI developments and this new Model o1? Your channel made me fall in love with coding and even inspired me to pursue a career in it. I think you're one of the truly smart people on KZbin, and you probably have a more realistic view of what's coming next. If you were in college today, would you fear becoming obsolete in the near future? Would you consider pursuing something other than CS? Sorry if this is a naive question.
