Since the outer arms flex slightly could the pivot points be a simple rotational pivot instead of a flexible material for longevity?

I think you are correct. I've had a few more iterations of this and have yet to have a very reliable mechanism with this configuration. I'm not quite ready to give up yet.

Nice design, could you show us how to make versions in thang (like the tool hanger file @4:43 )?

Thank you. Do you mean how to upload a design to Thangs so it is an assembly?
@alexandredaros8682
@alexandredaros8682 3 жыл бұрын
@@yephwerks3889 , uploading assembly went fine... what i dont know how to do is make versions of a part/asm. For example, my assembly has some parts (v0.1) that I uploaded but latter I changed something in part1 (v0.2) and want to update thang project whitout uploading all the files again, something like a git commit. Isn't it what the "Version From 12521" in your Tool Hanger file mean?

@@alexandredaros8682 Oh,. ok, now I see what you are asking. That is not a versioned file. According to the Thangs team, their next big release (~ 2 months out) will be an MVP for a public/private geometric revision control system. But... Here is a sneak peek: drive.google.com/file/d/1SdvWT_vyT-gSC5_pzx5FUioMLEKDiKZb/view If they actually get that working the way it looks like it will work I believe it will be a huge step forward for the opensource design. I am very eager to see it live.

yepher, mind sharing your opinion pros/cons regarding Shapr3D? I have a CAD and modeling background but not with this particular software. Also, what Ipad are you using and/or what would you suggest (Apple 12.9"iPad Pro Wi‑Fi, 1TB)? I'm not an Apple user, so I'm clueless. I've read there is a Windows version but more than likely still buggy.

I am probably due for an upgrade but currently I'm using a 9.7" iPad pro. I am not sure the best iPad for you but what you say could be a great choice. I tried a lot of different drawing apps and Shapr3D if for sure my favorite. For me the interaction with the app on the iPad is very natural. But the thing that I really love best is I am not stuck behind my computer and I can draw almost anywhere. The only complaint I've seen for Shapr3D is the price is a turn off for some.
@DaSmokeDaddy
@DaSmokeDaddy 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheYephers thanks for responding. I like the concept of being able to draw almost anywhere too. The price doesn't bother me but I don't want to be a beta tester Windows wise and am not a big fan of Apple.

I've not tried the Windows version of Shapr3d and used the Mac version very little so not sure how good it is. But I can say the iPad version is quite good and I don't think you will feel like a beta tester for that app.

There is a feature in cura that shold allow 'melding materials' to help make the hold together. I haven't used it but saw it on the release notes. That is the latest one I loaded.

Thanks for sharing this. Curious how you're actually doing the multi-material print? Are you using pause commands in the GCode and swapping out filament mid-print? Or do you have a multi-material printer? (if so -- which one?)

What is lacking with Mechanical Engineers today, is the knowledge of how to design mechanisms correctly. Did know that there's a mathematical formula that can be used for all mechanism designs? It's called Gruebler's Count. I found a way to make it practical for all 3D mechanisms. Here's the link if you are interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXelaZqDn913hs0
