Thanks for the kind feed back. I am thinking of posting some more instuctional material with picking tips, licks, arppegios and some classic picking patterns and melodies. I too am just starting out in this style but sharring is caring! ha ha

Thankyou Steve, as said below, the breaking it down into phrases and going slow over the steps really helped me, as did your calm voice. It's so good to be able to replay each section until it is absorbed and practiced.
@RobertB040212 жыл бұрын
I am so happy that you posted this lesson in this effective and methodical way. It's so nice to come across a player that understands how to break things down into sections and note key repetitive patterns to absorb. Impressive, sir.

Dude, great song to pick for your first lesson. I searched extensively for a lesson on this a couple months ago and couldnt find anything done well. Thank You for posting, and keep making these video's of rare gem songs that just dont have lessons on YT.

Hi Chet, Thanks for the time you have taken to do these two video's, I love what Wim Glenn and Adrian Holovaty have done in helping us with this tune but it's your walk-through that has got me through this tune, you really have done an amazing job here, and I would never have actually got it without you. Thank you so much.

Thanks a million for the lesson and the link to the tab. I've learned it all but am having a bit of a time finding the exact chord shapes. Any chance of you posting a video lesson for the rythem the way you played it for your backing track? Your teaching methods are a perfect example of how I learn best and the quickest. Either way thanks a bunch for the lessons

You got it right! 200 bpm is the standard studio recording tempo...movie soundtracts use a very sophistocated time code method that can change the tempo to match the frame count the editor wants locked with a specific melody, effect etc. 200 bpm is the performance tempo goal. I saw Stephane play this tune at an insane tempo of 260 bpm!!

Great work, Chet. I wonder if you'd mind talking through the notes a bit more, like at 3:53 when you explain that you're playing a Bmaj arpeggio? Or at the beginning, maybe explain that we're working in a Bdim scale, or whatever. It's obvious you're knowledgable - I just want you to share more of it!

You can find a Gyspy Guitar used for as little as 200 dollars (US). And, like all things in life, you can spend huge amounts for the best or a vintage one. Try DjangoBooks and/or GyspyGuitars (both 'com') or even eBay. I got the one in this video from GypsyGuitars...it was 10 years old when I bought it and I got it for abou 1/2 the price it went for new. Good luck.

Great lesson, thanks a lot! One question: what's the bpm of the song in the movie/cd version? I noticed when live, wrembel plays a little faster, 200 or so bpm, but in the movie is a little slower.. What bpm you use when playing? Thanks again!
@pacisablo11 жыл бұрын
yes i am, but no biggy, i can just follow your video. it just seams that in the beginning when you say, "it starts with" ,......i don't see that on the transcription. but like i said, i usually just learn straight from videos. i just finished learning "jerry's breakdown", and i think i will tackle this one next. Then maybe "minor swing" :)
@ChetArrista13 жыл бұрын
@Gothmog713 Thanks for the supportive comment! This is my first attempt at a lesson type video. If I can be of any help just let me know. If you don't already gypsy pick watch some video on the picking technique too...it's the only way to get the right sound and feel. Best of luck to you.

Logan...Are you using Barry Warren's transcription? The one I wrote in my video description? I don't see how that is possible since I learned it note by note from that transcription. I did add 3 pick up notes in my performance video but I don't think even those are in the instuctional video. You can conact me about this and I will help anyway I can.
@ChetArrista12 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The TAB is excellent and has performance tips, chords and other info...but I did not do the work of transcribing it...but you can get the TAB emailed to you directly by requesting a copy from the guy who wrote it...just email barwarren@aol.com and he'll send to right to you. Good luck.

Did the guy with the TAB respond to you yet? Let me know if have any trouble getting the TAB and I will make sure you get it. Good luck with this tune...it's so fun to play and every week I am getting smoother and able to put more and more style into it. This was my first Gypsy style tune and I am totally hooked on Gypsy Jazz now. Check out a web site: DjangoBooks Dot Comm The fourm is a great resource.

Right notes - but some very wrong positions! :-) Seriously, its a wonderful tutorial and a great effort - but some of the fingerings shown here are just plain incorrect and simply won't work at full speed. Its a shame, cause the intention is clearly good, but its important to be aware of this or you'll become extremely frustrated if you try to follow this exactly as shown. Please also be aware that we're not simply talking about a "preference" type thing here. Meaning, its not an "I like to play it here - but you can also play it on these frets" sort of situation. Its a thing where if you follow these fingerings 100% you'll soon hit a dead end. The notes however are right, so given a decent amount of knowledge of the instrument coupled with skill and intuition you should be able to find the correct fingerings in no time. And as I said, this is a great effort nonetheless!
