Atlas is a Husky/Lab mix and was turned away by other groomers as well as some veterinarians. I had no idea when starting on him that he would be this difficult. I'm very happy for the experience though and so glad I got to do what others could not! ❤️🐕

The whole point is to be able to stand up while washing the dog. You ever had to bend down to wash/comb a dog for a long period of time? It hurts. A lot.

damn has no one bathed this dog before? this is why it's important to bathe them as puppies to get them used to it so this doesn't happen when they get older.

Had a black lab that never liked the water would bathe him every 2 weeks when puppy and 3 weeks when adult he only got used to it when he turned 3. Some dogs just never get used to the prosses and thats why they take them to groomers because they cant handle them. Sometimes its that sometime its just the dog.

I bathemy dog every 2 weeks, he is terrified of the bath. He doesn't act out, he freezes and trembles. I also do his nails, and it's like war time. He HATES his feet being touched. I started when he was 8 weeks old, and he is still absolutely horrible! It's such a pain in the ass

My dog has been bathed since she was a puppy, she is a husky cane corso mix. Frequency doesn't always help. She hates water. I have to fight her to potty in the rain.😂

Though not a professional dog groomer, I've owned many rescues, including one in particular who was really reactive. We muzzled her for any kind of stressful experience like this - partly for the safety of the staff, and partly so the staff could stay calmer, knowing that they couldn't get hurt. I'd suggest that might have been a good move for you here - if you look back at the video, you can see that you're making a lot of sudden movements, and verbal outbursts, when trying to avoid the snaps (or when not managing to avoid them 😬 - ouch!) Just saying, muzzling doesn't have to be a terrible thing, and can really calm everyone down...

Some good techniques in interpreting and understanding the dog’s behavior. But ultimately, dogs aren’t that much different than human children: sure you can scream them down into acquiescence when you’re the bigger, stronger person, but at what cost? I highly doubt this dog “calmed down” as a result of how he was treated; more likely he went into shock, helplessness, and complete exhaustion after putting up a big fight, and just waited for it to be over. Another item of note: this dog’s stress levels could probably have been significantly reduced by decreasing the amount of loudness in the shop, which could be done by making partitions between bathing stations, housing the kenneled dogs in a different room, and mounting sound deadening on the ceiling and walls. Also, dogs are EXTREMELY uncomfortable and scared on unstable, slippery surfaces, and can have their stress reduced by adding traction mats to the shower floors or having the option of a walk in shower for the scared ones. Finally, absolutely never, EVER pick up a large dog that does not want to be picked up. You could seriously injure the dog and/or yourself. I recommend checking out the KZbin channel “The Girl with the Dogs 2” to learn how to handle aggressive dogs during grooming.

Is there a way you could get some stairs that could slide out of the way after the dogs walk up into the bath tub so you would not have to lift them?

The owners suck because it's obvious that this is the first time that the dog has ever been groomed. If they had familiarized him with it in a positive way then none of this would have happened.

Dogs learn through dealing with stressful situations. The dogs barking in the background and all of the noise can be very over stimulating but the groomer handled it well. He even took being bitten well. He earned this dogs trust and by the end the situation was a learning situation. At the end he said that other groomers had turned him away, vets said they couldn't do his nails and yet this groomer did it all. Dogs have to be groomed, it is a necessity, and the sooner he is able to work through his stress the better it will be for him. If you didn't 'force' this he would have only been taught that behaving this way gets him what he wants.

As the comment said above, dogs can adapt to these much better if the owners took better care of them with the grooming as puppies. The groomer is just trying to help the dog get more comfortable, if you’ve watched his other videos you see how much he cares about them and also has turned away dogs who just couldn’t handle it. 😂
