If there's one thing you pick up watching these videos from her, it's that a lot of the dogs that pass her gate and are "a mess" are dogs passed around by groomers for being difficult. Finding a groomer that doesn't abuse your dog (or any other animal) is like trying to find someone to take care of your older relatives that won't abuse them or neglect them. Old age sucks for everyone involved.
@Pet-Staffy10 ай бұрын
@@asertasorry, but that’s not the case with owning any dog. You should never buy a dog if your not prepared, or made preparations to be responsible for it, for its entire lifetime. That’s why there are so many Rescue centres around the would. People buy dogs on a whim. Oh! Isn’t it cute, or I love that bred of dog, or many other ridiculous reasons. Before taking ownership of a dog, research, research & research. Then make allowances for all the things that you will need to pay for during its decade plus life span. Most dog owners, hopefully would never allow their children to have matted hair, or be flea ridden. So don’t allow your dog to become like the one in this video. @@ronallen6578 Be careful you don't fall from that high up on a horse - you might bruise your ego on the way down. That being said, it certainly isn't ideal to let any dog get into this shape. Malamutes are a huge commitment in time and effort, and the bad experiences with groomers certainly don't help. A dog that large can be hard to groom if they're uncooperative. Dogs can and will injure themselves and others if they get too scared or panicked, regardless of their size. This danger only compounds as they age. Vanessa even says in the video that most groomers wouldn't take a job like this. She's made it clear that she's in a unique position to do jobs like these because of her experience, and the success of her channel and products. I once adopted a senior dog like this. Ten years old and needed a new home. Unfortunately he was hell for grooming. I don't even know what happened to him before I got him. I was able to (with a TON of extra work) get him to allow me to do most of it but, it. was hard on him and on me. We got judged a lot with this dog by people who didn't know we'd given a senior (uncoropereative) dog a home. Thanks Vanessa for helping this dog out. I wish you'd been around when we took on our Milo. He was a sweet senior boy who for whatever reason from his past just didn't like grooms. This husky came out amazingly well!
@marcusu32617 ай бұрын
Honestly, I don't know if it's past experiences or if some dogs are just intolerant of it. Mine (now a senior) was four when I got him and he absolutely despises every aspect of grooming. All I have to do is pull out the scissors and he goes to hide, and I've never once so much as touched anything but his hair with the scissors! I do groom him myself though, with mixed success. He's a husky mix, so he has the insane undercoat... but the rest is long-haired small dogs like shih tzu and Maltese so his outer coat just grows and grows. His summer haircuts may not be the most even, but when you have to use the longest blade guard possible (can't shave because of the double coat) and have no real experience grooming save a couple times a year... well he looks okay enough. Better than him being stressed by someone else doing something he already absolutely hates, plus other barking dogs, plus crate time (the backs of his teeth were chipped when I got him, probably from trying to escape a crate).

@@user-lk5ud7ux7lwhy do you still watch this channel? You obviously disagree with a lot of it and have zero interest in the stories behind each video. If you dislike this content, it's okay to not watch it.

@@user-lk5ud7ux7l yeh totally agree, that hair is just gonna grow back, its already too long, so a shave would of been way more beneficial. but its for the channel and she is an expert at saving coats etc so although not pratical in this instance its still miles better than nothing and its free. if the owner now gets a proper schedule in place with normal groomers it will be 100x easier for the groomers.
@ladygrndr942410 ай бұрын
@@TheInnerSession This is a double coated dog--if shaved the fur is permanently damaged. It will actually cause their undercoat to grow FASTER, and damage their ability to withstand cold and heat in the future. It will also leave them prone to sunburns and skin issues. If this was a poodle or Maltese, etc, then yes, shaving is the best way to prevent stress and get them on a regular grooming schedule. But it would ultimately just make the work harder for the owners and the next groomer if he was shaved this time without it being 100% necessary.

The little foot tappies STOLE MY FREAKIN WHOLE HEART ❤❤❤ I couldn’t get enough, everytime he did them I thought for a senior dog he probably has a hard time sitting on his paws and he found way to ease that a little bit. But omg each step made me audibly swoon for this dog such a good boy ! So happy he let you clip his nails !

Vanessa could make a whole 'nother Husky out of all that fur! And it would also probably sing the song of its people if she tried to wash it.

I'm so glad you were able to groom him this easily, it's amazing. My mom refuses to groom our Great Pyrenees and the groomers around us won't take dogs anywhere near his size, so I've had to learn how to safely groom him because his temperament towards any part of grooming is worse than Malibu's. It's been difficult considering I'm a young teen but watching these do really motivate me and Bear doesn't even need a muzzle anymore, just the gentle leader

wish you good luck! and remember - don't worry about appearances much, as long as your dog is better after grooming and wasn't too stressed during the process, it's already quite a success!

He has holes in his coat after you finished and you said you couldn't care less. Malibu could not care less either so that makes 2 of you and that is the best outcome possible. He was feeling (certainly) so much better. Animals don't care what they look like, they know they look fabulous regardless of spots in their fur ❤ Thanks for all you do Vanessa!

Animals - some animals do care what they look like though. I saw a dog once ask it's owners to put its fairy costume on so she could go look in the mirror at her self. It was ADORABLE!

There are so many comments about your compassion and empathy and grace with your furry clients, and I 100% agree with that and then some, but I am also blown away by how freaking hard it is what you do. It's soooo much work. It's art and it's labor and it's a lot of problem solving and it's physically and mentally and emotionally demanding and you're amazing at it and give it your all. Thanks for sharing this with us, because it's such a treat to get to witness what you do for these animals and their families!
