Glad you guys are back. I was going to pass on Rise of the Ronin but after hearing Dan and Hoeg say they can handle it I think I'll give that one a shot. I played the demo of Stellar Blade and could tell that game wasn't going to be for me about 15 minutes in. When they said they were going to be pulling from Neir Automata I expected faster, flashier combat. And I felt like there was a disconnect between how fast and agile the characters look versus how they feel to play. On the bright side, I do want to play Neir again now, haven't done that in a few years. I think Neir actually posits some interesting questions about finding meaning in life and such, there's a lot more to that game than first meets the eye.

I've always been in this boat, and I feel like one of the only ones, speaking of FPS and whatnot. I believe backward compatibility hindered the consoles this gen, as well as the Series S in a sense. If devs were given the power, true power, to make the games they wanted, then we would get the innovation in games like we did in the ps2/xbox/gamecube and ps3/360/wii days.

It's an interesting point and likely one of the factors for sure. That said, it's also broader in scope too. Games having to be cross-gen, cross-platform, on PC, etc... all adds a ton of complexity and dev time. It's why we typically see first-party games perform their highest (Gears 5/Halo and Horizon/GOW/Ghost etc...). And then of course that's before talking about things like UE5 still evolving rapidly.
