Budget and time. Chinese dramas tend to film the entire series withing a season. I'm sure they can't afford to spend hours on makeup daily. When they do attempt to age the actors - the result is comical. Just have to use your imagination that they aged or one of those lucky genes where parent-child relation appears more plausible as siblings

Well you have to look at the times is BC. B.C.E. Before the Common Era / B.C. Before Christ, people die before or by their 40s and only the rich maybe make it past 50 or older but on the average People die young so they marry as preteens or teenagers, make kids when they’re 20, build a family, reach some level of career height/success business or some thing by the time they’re 30, and hopefully enjoy their last days/ life as “seniors” in their 40s.. so yeah they all look young.. heck I feel old realizing those born in 2000 are graduating from colleges if not soon. Idk.. I got my BS in 15 months so I’m unique overachiever though.

Different eras. This in set in the Qin dynasty 206-221BCE, while Ruyi is set in the Qing dynasty 1644-1921AD almost 2000 years later. Styles changed drastically from dynasty to dynasty as each one sought to set themselves apart from their predecessor. Fashion was probably the most noticeable change especially in the royal class where wearing something from a previous dynasty could get someone + 3 generations of their family killed for rebellion.
