My best purchase ever was buying Luna on its way to zero. Many people thought the crash was over and a potential recovery was in play but I knew better and was able to get some great buys in when others expected a bounce, but thankfully I was able to get more cash in right at the end before it went to zero, taking a 99.999% L on each of those buys! Luckiest timing I've ever had! You have to countertrade these markets. When it's a bear trap you sell/short, and when it's a bull trap you buy/long. That's how you maximize losses. You don't want to be caught off guard with your bags pumping. You can never go up as much as you can go down, I mean maybe you could do a 10x or 100x if you're lucky, but when you aim for downside you can have a perfect 100%/infinite loss, that's why my trading strategy is loss based, it's much easier.

Ben, would it be good also to monitor fluctuations in amount of bank reserves held at the Fed? As you know, the Fed created an "ample reserves" regime where they started paying interest on reserve balances after shoving a ton of cash on the bank balance sheets through quantitative easing. The outcome is banks hold massive amounts of money at the Fed. So now when the Fed undertakes quantitative easing, the money never actually leaves the Fed, the banks just keep that money at the Fed earning interest. My premise is that the real stimulus may be when we see a large amount of that money coming out of reserves and into the economy, which will take place when the banks increase their loan and investment activity.
