I used to live in a place that had quite a few gold mining claims registered. When the cost of extraction exceeded the market value the mines got shut down. Every time there was a large increase in the price of gold there was a reshuffle as the claims were bought and sold. That's as far as it went though when the new owners invariably discovered that the higher price reflected economic conditions that also increased the cost of extraction. The mines stayed closed. The halving is a different situation equivalent to every gold mine on earth discovering that the vein of ore they have been processing is suddenly only half as rich while the cost of processing a ton of ore remains the same. Bitcoin mining will pause until the price of the coins rises enough to cover the cost of mining them. Halving has no direct effect on the price of the coins. That is determined by demand, which is an entirely different subject.

@@lokijordan The key factor in the value of bitcoin is it's public acceptance. That isn't something AI can generate. If it's predictable it isn't a "black swan" event. I'd hesitate to call even the collapse of fiat currencies a black swan. There has never in the history of money been a fiat currency that *DIDN'T* eventually get inflated or debased into worthlessness. Any uncertainty has been in the calendar, not the concept. I have noticed that the global financial elite have developed an increasingly vitriolic hatred and contempt for the "lesser" members of society. To such a degree that some of them are actively working to disrupt the current social order and replace it with something more to their liking. I don't see any way this can end well, not even for those working towards that goal.

Additionally, miners are very highly incentivized to use renewable energy in order to keep their costs down. It's an issue with some depth and I think most people would be highly rewarded for their efforts in the pursuit of understanding it more. I encourage you to check it all out and believe doing so will likely change most skeptics' minds on the subject.

BTC is a maturing asset. In the last four years its behaviour has sometimes had a correlation with gold, while other times it has shown a correlation with the stock market. I do think it is currently still behaving like a speculative asset, but is maturing and in transition. The correlation you speak of changes depending on the timeframe you consider.

Only an idiot would buy btc on speculation. There are an abundance of people who didn't understand it and bought it at 6 and sold at 60. those people never saw 60,000. Bitcoin is a decentralized ledger - it is an entire banking system that cannot be manipulated by the ones who control the fiat ledger. The financial system is the titanic and btc is a seat on a lifeboat. I'm sure some people sold their seat and expected to buy back another one for less, but as time goes by, there are less seats available. Watch as impossible-to-pay debts force governments to increase taxes (decrease freedoms). Desperate governments will rob from the people to pay for their addiction to spending. As freedoms diminish, the value of btc will increase. Do you think wealthy russian oligarchs will buy yachts in the future? It's priced in everything. Bitcoin is worldwide and is priced, bought, and sold in almost all currencies. Gold and silver too. Anything. And it's used to buy services and products.

This will be the crunch time for Bitcoin, when the control structure launches it's CBDC they won't tolerate competition, Bitcoin won't be legislated to death but it will be reigned in massively I would reckon.
