This is what we need more of. Accessible, well reasoned arguments that work to bridge both sides of an argument, rather than deepening the division. ERB and friends are the modern day philosophers arguing at the Acropolis to help determine the state of things to come. It may not feel special to you today, but you are all witnessing history here. Both literally and figuratively. ------------- I feel it is more of a draw, but the lack of mention of Mt. Gox or the Dust Bowl bank-runs imo was a missed opportunity to show the inherent weakness in both systems. If this were actual ERB I would have expected some mention of Currency manipulation and maybe a guest drop in from a member of the 'Gold Network' or King Midas or something. I like this format tho, good going all. I want more of this. A lot more.

JourneymanObfuscator It’s very biased though, you already know their stance by seeing the reactions of the “audience”.
@JourneymanObfuscator5 жыл бұрын
@@nicolaslarrain9264 No doubt, but as with all of their stuff (ERB) even the side they disagree with is relatively well researched and presented. Inherent bias is unavoidable in the best of conversations, this is no different. Banks are greedy and Bitcoin is volatile, that is the essence of the presentation and it is well researched as indicated by the minutia portrayed in their lyrics. I have never been encouraged to read the Federalist Papers by anyone other than a history professor. Just because I don't agree with everything written there doesn't make it any less important to our country or the argument presented. Ignoring the younger crowd nodding their heads for blockchain and older faces agreeing with Hamilton, the rest of the presentation does a good relatively job of remaining balanced in its narrative. Admittedly there are some strawman arguments here and there, but you can find those same reasons anywhere that people are having the same discussion. That assumes however that you know people that will have this argument, if you don't then this may be the first exposure to the information. This video is for them, the curious but uninformed masses. My comment is much more about the method ;) rather than the content. I do love being entertained and educated at the same time, good education is the kind that encourage you to read more about the topic rather than proclaiming you know everything about the subject. Bonus points for using referencing 'Fiat Money'. That doesn't come up often in the impassioned discussions I have about the future of money.

The "invisible hand of the market" only seeks for profit and willfully finds every method to cheat the poor and subordinate. Without accountability big corporations are well known to dump toxic waste in major resources and suffer only partial social infamy. Without regulation, companies take advantage of every race-to-the-bottom, including slavery in all its forms and human trafficking, they can find to reduce the profit of their subordinates in exchange for their own luxury and undue power. I don't really see how. All Hamilton's points are just "government needs to be in control." The best point he had was that insurance can pay you back if something gets hacked but historically, insurance has actively prevented people from recovering their lost money and that ignores that bitcoin has its own intermediary insurance system as well.
@aspecttnd4 жыл бұрын
@@theplaybunnyarcade3375 It wasn't about the government needing to be in control, it was that SOMEONE was in control to regulate and make sure things don't just tank and lose their value. Plus, if something goes wrong, we at least have a way of tracing and finding lost money, while with Bitcoin it quite literally is gone. Even if there is a record of insurance trying to keep or prevent people from getting their money, at least there's the OPTION of possibly getting your money back instead of just being gone and there's no possible way to recover it.

Another argument used against solar and wind is that people don't think it on it's own, as it stands anyway, could make enough power, taking into account how much it costs to keep it running, to supply a country. Obviously Satoshi won. This part of the lyrics reminded me of a talk given by Andreas Antonoupolus in which he says that nowadays one of the functions of fiat money is being a system of surveillance. "Their national cash is how they keep control, But freedom to the people was my ultimate goal." I'm a venezuelan and I have experienced how a national currency can be use as a mean of political control. And I'm not talking only about exchange controls, but about impoverishing the people in order to make them dependent of the government. And given the fact that we have a digitla hyperinflation because cash here is useless, they keep record of every transaction you make in bolivares. I can say that Bitcoin saved me and my family. Bitcoin is freedom.

If you hodl and traded BTC and your family is good then thanks to you, not just bitcoin. Also bitcoin is easily tracked as easy as my youtube post. They just do not do it unless special cases. You mean to thank decentralized concepts but if you made money your timing and skills are on point. Most lose money trading BTC these days at least.
@IvanGomez-dp3qs5 жыл бұрын
@@x2ul725 Of course. If you don't work hard, Bitcoin by itself can't help you because it is only a tool. You can use it or not, and it can serves you or not. What I meant and wanted to highlight is how great it is to have an alternative. When devaluation and hyperinflation hits your national currency, you can work 24/7 and still your money will disappear in thin air. Combine that with exchange controls and you will be in big trouble. About the traceability, yes, Bitcoin addresses can be tracked. What is hard is identifying is to whom belongs that address (unless you have use that address to receive money in an exchange wallet with KYC requirements). That's why there's so many hackers unpunished. But yes, in that sense cash is more private than Bitcoin. Maybe I would have been more precise if I had said system of control rather than system of surveillance.
