Its a combination of network effects, 1st mover, simple yet effective at doing 1 thing, longest and most tested crypto. Fairly open to everyone to mine ie no premine like other coins that are money makers for the creators and rich that hold many coins that are now "staking" or "loaning" to others making another version of a bank.

Bitcoin wants to be gold wants to be a store of value. You cannot compare bitcoin with other cryptos because bitcoin does not want to do what other cryptos want to do. Ethereum is the best platform is like a google bitcoin is gold its completely diferent

There are always trade offs in physics. You never wanna do scaling solutions on the base layer. Ethereum miserably tries so hard to scale on the base layer and fails. Eth chain is riddled with hacks as a result since they sacrificed security in favor of scaling. Which is why a bunch of these altcoins on layer 2 of eth tries to compensate for what the main chain lacks. Meanwhile BTC stays impenetrable on the base layer. There has not been one single successful hack on the BTC chain. Lightning network solves scaling issues on layer 2.

There's a push either from Microsoft from facebook ethereum etc etc to create metaverses so you need to understand gold had is place in the normal past world, but in the future that everything will be digital makes sense to have digital gold. @@joaosilva-ji1ve sure but I’m referring to all aspects of a commodity such as electronic devices utilize gold and those are only becoming more popular. So regardless if people stop wearing gold rings and other such cosmetic options it still has an real need in manufacturing. There is also no real barrier to entry for crypto all someone has to do is come up with better code meaning it’s utilization is dependent on what is popular.

@@mikebalentine gold will continue to be a commodity as long as is needed. But as a store of value the world will go to digital. Dont compare crypto. Bitcoin is bitcoin crypto market is diferent. Its like comparing gold with apple. In crypto bitcoin is gold ethereum is apple. But as a store of value nothing can stop bitcoin from being nr 1, as i belive aswell ethereum is too big to loose the nr 2 spot as the biggest platform.

May be bitcoin will serve as a savings account. It can be immediately exchanged to crypto's like ethereum which than can be used more like a checking account or cash. But the value proposition in bitcoin is that other forms of money will be ultimately pegged to it.

@@slapenkinis it's not though. For it to be fungible, one would need to be indifferent to receiving one BTC over another. However, tainted coins exist. Chain analysis means I can see the full history of any coins, and exchanges have blacklisted addresses associated with hacks. Therefore, a BTC is not perfectly interchangeable with any BTC. It's not fungible. Monero solved this.

And just because some exhanges black list something... well there's marked cash which was previously stolen too... doesnt mean you cant spend that cash in a black market... its only a nuance. Monero is also fungible- until someone decides to jail the creator and shut the project down. Something thats imposible to happen to btc.

Bitcoin will never be used for transacting in high volume and lightning network is a fully centralized network which goes against Bitcoin's core philosophy. In the future, Cardano and Ergo will be an unstoppable pair (with ergo being the improved PoW blockchain while Cardano serves as the base operating system for the world's transactions).

@@ibbikay I'm not bashing bitcoin, it was by far the most successful prototype crypto. In case you're not aware there were others before it but nothing that worked well. But just because it works doesn't mean it's perfect. Gen3 networks are going to run the world while Gen1 may be used for store of value but even that is already being challenged.
