I agree. I never watch shorts normally because I'm honestly not a short-form video fan. It just doesn't do it for me. But if they're strung together like this periodically, I think that's a nice compromise.

Fun fact, the part of corn that you eat is also botanically a fruit. Each individual kernel is a sugary pod containing a seed, which is the hard portion where the kernel attaches to the cob.

Liked this compilation more than the individual shorts, BUT, I feel both sections should stay on, and are completely worthy, each having their own audience, both having the wonderful short format of the channel. Thanks for every bite of information you give!

BTW, another way to avoid browning while cutting apples is to use a ceramic knife. I remember once I was peeling, coring, and cutting up some apples for a recipe. The peeler and knife were ceramic while the corer was metal (because, probably due to the curved shape, they can't make those in ceramic). After a few apples, I looked at the bowl of cuttings and the only parts that were turning brown were those that had touched the corer.

Is it possible that your knife was sharp so it didn't damage too many apple cells so less enzymes were exposed to the air?

I'm extremely allergic to poison ivy. As my family says, if I stand in the wind off a poison ivy plant, I will get it. However, I never knew mangoes have urushiol. I have handled and peeled a bunch of mangoes, and my son, who is also very allergic to poison ivy, has a mango tree in his back yard. He has never had a reaction to the tree or the fruit, though, and he has handled most parts of the tree more than once, since it tends to tip over in hurricane winds and needs to be pushed back upright. Interesting

Nice job putting those shorts to use. I haven't been tracking their actual watch numbers (as opposed to full video); but they at least seem intuitively like a horrible business choice on the part of Google - as ignovel (non-novel) ideas are typically not rewarded on the internet, regardless of how powerful the copycat was. Buying up TikTok would have been a [predictably] better move, if they'd been able to pull it off; but it may be that that particular Chinese company had reasons for not accepting buyouts, as a normal startup would. Regardless, y'all find yourselves in an environment where you feel pressured to make these new-format videos, *just in case* Ytb decides to, without warning, amp them up on their presentation algorithm. But awaiting such a possible hasty move, you also decided to capitalized on them to compile new videos to the old format. This is very wise; especially in this chaotic environment. Anecdotally, I've been avoiding any click-through on "shorts", in order to not accidentally make the algorithm start to "explore that possibility further" with my feed. So I wouldn't have seen any of these videos, unless you'd put them into a 'traditional' video.

I don't like the shorts feature at all. Not just with scishow, but every channel. KZbin is just trying to copy instagram which is copying tiktok which somehow is a copy of wine...and so on. Vertical screen, bad quality, reduced player features...nothing to be a friend of. I'd rather see longer scishow videos about the topics (well a lot of the usual shorts are just clips taken from those - so more reasons to not like them).

Ok, here is the biggest hack to keep your apples fresh in the fridge, without the need of another produce, extra steps or anything more than a plate. Just put the cut side down flat on a clean little plate, put it back in the fridge and move on. If these enzymes are triggered by oxygen, it's far easier to block out the oxygen.

Careful science investigation shows tomato refrigeration irrelevant: Aroma was measured scientifically; the “sensory attributes” of the fruits were described by a trained “sensory panel” of people. What do members of a sensory panel do? They are “experienced and trained assessors who use their senses to perceive and evaluate the sensory properties of products. Among other attributes, this panel examined the discernible sweetness, acidity and juiciness of tomatoes,” the team explains. The panel found no perceptible differences in the flavor of ripe tomatoes based on how they were stored from farm to fork - and taking into account the chain of harvesting in that journey. “The variety of tomato is much more important,” the panel rules.

Presentation of food is so important to the enjoyment of it. If I had to pick between the chips and a bowl of broccoli, it would depend on what I'd eaten beforehand as well - if I had loads of fatty/sugary things already, I'd go for the veg first, but if I'd eaten healthier before given the choice then I'd go for the chips.

If you can't make your salad taste better than french-fries, you've not made a proper salad. I will hands-down take a salad over fries, unless they don't have a dressing, then nothing. Unlike most people who only want to consume food for its taste, you feel like shite later consuming fried foods. Most people won't acknowledge this and complain about it. Your cravings and taste-buds change when you get rid of those foods. Funny how we only crave what we mostly feed ourselves. WEIRD how our bodies work like that.
